SweetSue's Cannabis Oil Study Hall

I have so much catching up to do!

But ill get there eventually!

When i first got out of the army and came back home
i remember telling my mom how i wanted to study cannabis medicinally and her reaction was priceless!

But this is exactly what i had in mind!

Thank you angrybird for the invite i should have been here months ago!

Welcome to the Study Hall lootznbootz. :hugs: And thanks Birdie, for the directions. :hugs::hugs::hugs:

Make yourself comfortable. Ask anything. I'm going to bed, so I'll catch up with all this excitement tomorrow.

Goodnight everyone.

I found capsules! But not until after I took my dose today. The same 1/30 drop, swiped on top of my tongue, immediately followed by a drink of water, like I was swallowing a pill. No lingering in my mouth.

However it may make me feel in the end, the transition is so much smoother. Just a slow creep in. I hate that feeling of how it hits my system fast and hard - same as I hated the hemp, even if it eventually ended up feeling good.

So, another note - I took my drop when I got in the tub - lying down quickly. Felt good and was in there 1 1/2 hours. Now that I'm out moving around, I feel funky and feel anxiety creeping in.

I'm just weird. It's all just weird.

The hemp was exactly the opposite. I felt good moving around - when I stopped is when it felt not so good.

Someday, I'll completely forget all of this and it will all feel good.

Sooooo what happens if you take a drop of each at the same time? Something for after the trip maybe?

You could dilute each one further so the total intake stays at same level. But the mixture could be very helpful.

I found this this am. Good video.

I decarb the product but some decarb the oil, regardless of the method accurate temperature control and time is key. Most oven thermostats are way off and even some oven thermometers have error in them. For precision nothing like mercury. With a mercury lab thermometer (-20*C-150*C) I found that my oven thermometer was 10*C off.

How long does it take for those 100 ml of olive oil to heat up to 120*C? You are making assumptions ... When the oil hits 120*C is when the decarb starts, not when you put in the jar.

What would be the purpose of this oil? Sleep aid, nausea, appetite control, anti-tumoral, anti-inflammatory? Some things are done better by CBD and some by THC so you need to know what you want prior to decarbing.

Contrary to what some people think you can't do the oil one way and use it for everything; yes the strain is also important but with a 1:1 you could choose what you want.

We know that the CBD decarb temp is lower but that's pretty much it. When decarbing @ 120*C you are boosting THC until 27 minutes but then THC rapidly start converting to CBN so you end up with a high THC/CBD or with a high CBN/CBD oil from a 51 minute decarb from the same strain.

:thumb:Thanks Old Bear! This should be helpful to the newer members of our group for understanding MMJ. Cruising the other MMJ threads one can find all kinds of interesting bits like this! I travel occasionally through the old threads and almost always come upon things I find interesting or enlightening! A lot of them might be helpful to some seekers if reposted! :peace::blushsmile: Today's access to information is such a contrast to the Nineteen Sixties and Seventies! We pretty much could only find a paragraph or two about the "dangerous " plant cannabis in an encyclopedia! Everything else was spread only word of mouth and learned mostly from personal experience! No wonder we are just now, beginning to move towards majority societal enlightenment about this wonderful medicinal herb!:rollit:

A note on the temps and times above. 120 C = 280 F, higher than we've been using and also higher than Motoco's instructions for decarbing oil.

I remember the chart floating around last summer showing rapid degradation of THC into CBN starting after about 45 min. Didn't realize they probably used the higher temps. Apparently I've been worrying needlessly about creating too much CBN which doesn't seem to be problem at temps we use.

Don't you love the value of brainstorming? We're learning some very interesting things as we progress. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Decarb Experiment Update

I'm learning the differences in expression between the Dark Devil Auto and the Carnival. DDA is speed in plant form for me with the extra decarb. Carnival becomes more of a sense of cosmic well-being. Two days in a row now I've left the apartment under Carnival's influence and have had people drawn to me by the atmosphere surrounding me. It's almost unreal, what's been going on. :laughtwo:

Both strains intensified in euphoric potency and in duration of effect at 230 F for 90 minutes. I used the shorter time because I knew I'd be baking it two more times before consumption. Brownies were significantly more potent in both effect and duration. I can't quantify it, but I can tell you there was much more THC available faster decarbed this way. Smoked the high begins to taper after an hour. It only take a couple tiny hits though, so this isn't a concern.

As an edible, using liquid sunflower lecithin, it's so much better that smoking becomes unnecessary.

I've determined that for my own use this is the choice I'll be making for med administration. Greater effect at the same dose. I always have the option to decrease the dose if I find I need to slow down for a time

Carnival is very uplifting. There's a strong feeling of carefreeness. Lol! She's an appetite suppressant too, which reminds me that I need to listen to the grumbling empty stomach. :laughtwo: It takes more than brownies to keep going.

Something else I've noticed with both strains. I feel "bouncy." This isn't something I recall feeling ever before, this consistently. Thinking back, I'm certain I must have felt like this when I unexpectedly got something really good, but because we were only smoking, it'd diminish almost immediately. Hmmmm...... Yep, that's likely what was going on. We didn't often have the money on hand for anything this good.

Reality check: we never had access to what we grow as a matter of course in this community.

So I find it interesting that both strains, decarbed for super potential, would have this sensual effect on me. It starts early in with both and continues throughout the entire buzz session.

I'll be having some oatmeal mix in about 5 minutes. It's been 5 hours since I ate the brownies. They hit hard within the first 10 minutes and it's been a consistent level all along. I'm expecting the oatmeal to kick it up a bit. :slide: I have some studying to get done, but first a session of Callanetics. This kickstart is just what I need going into my movement practice.

My whole body is buzzing. I really like the way this feels. It's not everyone who could run this hot and not burn out. I understand I'm not that unique. I'm watching carefully for signs of fatigue. Making sure I eat nutritional choices. Drinking more water. (thank you Oldbear :hugs: ) Running this hot is a new experience for me too.

Hi Sue,
With all the talk of brownies, I have to make some.

Are you using 8g of material per batch?

I never know
canyon

Yes I am Canyon. The pan cuts easily into 16 pieces, making them each a half gram of plant material. Will you be decarbing for 90-100 minutes before making the oil? Or will you be making a regular batch?

I thought I would decarb it for about an hour at 230 with just the herb and cool. Then, add it to sunflower oil for another hour at 230 or until I stop getting bubbles.

I like the idea of the oven bag. That requires another trip to the store. Buggers.

Best

Good evening Our wonderful Guardian Angel, my beautiful Mrs. and I are making another batch of our favorite plants oil from some green crack. Mmmmmmmmm, going to do caps at as close to 15:1 as we can. Maybe not exact to the drop but close. Thank you, and Cajun, and everyone else for being so patient and caring with us newbies. We know nothing in comparison to you two, but we can fully follow instructions :thumb:

Much love and blessing to you our dear friend, Cajun, we have never met nor spoken but rest assured we are very well read on all the mind boggling things you have accomplished and the many things you were so kind to share with everyone on this forum. You are truly an amazing individual and we hope one day to officially meet you.

We owe so much to so many here and feel very blessed that you all help us newbies come to at least some understanding of what we need to do. We will never know as much as most of you but knowing we can ask and get a no bull shit answer is more valuable than any amount of gold. God bless you all and special blessings for our dear Guardian Angel :circle-of-love:

Blessed Buds to all and be well, happy holidays to all our friends, those that we have met and those we will meet. :passitleft:

Spilling a few tears of joy over here.:hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

Following your journey has been such a satisfying adventure. You were frantic when you arrived. It took no time at all to calm that fearful nature. You're willingness to trust us helped emensely.

What a glorious change in feeling from that first post, eh? That's how we do it here - one breath at a time, one answer with knowledge and caring attached and all the bullshit attitude left to the side of the road.

This was my dream when I opened these doors and invited all these souls who know so much more than I do to join me in the joy of discovery. I translate what they share really well. I hold hands really well too, and I've discovered that may be the most important part of my functions here. I see your shining future and I have no trouble helping you see it with me.

The New Year looks much more promising. :circle-of-love:

As for Cajun........ Well, we all understand he's the one who lit this fire. There aren't enough words of thanks for that. :battingeyelashes:
