Stunger's Last Stand: Banned To The Balcony!

Sunny and 80ºF in Los Angeles these days!

But still not as good as rainy with those on the balcony. :thumb:
It might be smaller and in lovely sunshine, but it looks pristine and I am sure it will rocket up in size!

1st of April update

It's been overcast and raining most of the day. Temps getting cooler. Today I tried to get some more closeups on the trichomes but each time it started raining again. The Mango Sherbert from the breeder notes it suggests it would have been ready 2 weeks ago, but on my last close up look I didn't see any amber mostly just cloudy with clear. We have some days of sunshine forecast ahead of this rainy weather, so I am keen for them to be out for at least another week if it gets sunny. I had a vapecap of some early Mango Sherbert, it was a lowly piece of 'B' grade bud that had been quick chop dried but it was very good, which is encouraging for the main canopy bud when dried and cured.

It might be raining here, but I hope the sun is falling on your plants where you are! :ganjamon:
Such beautiful plants. Great job Stunger. That Mango looks like something I would like. How close now?

Thanks Stinker, The Mango Sherbert breeder guidance said 50 days flowering which is barely 7 weeks, if taken then, it still would have been nice bud I'd think, but going from when I first saw pistils her 50 day calculated chop time would have been 2 weeks ago!

However, here on the balcony there is no ideal environment, on sunny days she is only fully in the sun from 2pm, so she has done really well considering that she is in a smaller 30L(7gal) container, all I have been able to do is her soil, some foliar feeds and bug spraying.

Tomorrow if not today, I should get a clear run to carefully do some closeups of the buds to see where we are, a few days ago she was still cloudy and clear. It's just down to personal preference now really, I will probably leave her 1 more week and review her again. Her colas are weighting up a bit, they're starting to feel quite heavy. I tried some quick chop dried 'B' grade bud from her last night, and another vapcap this morning, a nice balance between clearness and euphoria and energy for doing things, it bodes well for her 'A' class bud once properly cured. :hookah:

Plant photo bomb - trichome closeups 3rd April 2021

Well folks, it's almost closing time on the balcony, not long to go now. How empty it's gonna look soon, that's always a bit of a comedown when it happens. Never mind, the plants are looking great. The early 'B' grade 'testers' I've had have been fresh, thrilling and smile boosting. I did attempt pollination of 2 minor stems of each plant back in the second week of March. As long as I get a month for any seeds I then prefer to wait another week if possible. So today I have mostly concentrated on some close up pictures of the trichomes, and in general I need those pictures to 'see' what's going on. The first time I noticed a caterpillar was from a picture! The Mango Sherbert & Godfather OG are both ready anytime soon. I would be happy to chop them now, altho I have previously waited for a bit more amber to develop and would be happy to do so again. But mainly, I prefer to give the opportunity of a month for any possible seeds to develop. I hope so, the 3 week old pollen was literally just a coating on the inside of a plastic bag that had been exposed to moisture/humidity. However in the MS and GF I thought I saw some large potentially seed bearing bracts on the stems I pollinated, so I'm hoping there! It is a good feeling when you try something and see a good result, and with such potentially nice plants it was worth having a go even if they'd be regulars.:Namaste:

Anyway the pics are very snatch and grab and not quite as I would like them, but time for these lovely ladies is running out, and why not, why not show them off a little longer before their time is done.

So here they are:

This one is always with sun coming at you and hard to adequately get a good picture, but I wasn't expecting her to be ready until close to 2 more weeks which could be about right, she's been showing pistils here for 7.5 weeks and breeder guide is approx 9-10 weeks.

And one from front on to wrap these laden ladies up!

Anyway the trichomes of the Mango Sherbert & Godfather OG are close and they're looking close overall too, I'm fine with these girls catching the sun a bit longer if it's shining. Be well folks. :hookah:

Wow! What a beautiful garden. You're gonna have sticky fingers before long!
Smile and stay stoneder

Wow they look great!!!
Cheers Tim! I've gone thru the germination anxiety, the growing anxiety, and soon it'll be the harvest/cure anxiety! You've been growing a lovely crop too!:yummy:
Not long now :cheer::popcorn:
Yes very close Sy. I am readying myself for their harvest day. I hope you like the look of the Mango Sherbert, I wouldn't be growing her if it wasn't for you buddy :thanks:. I had to 'cramp her' from her former natural early open shape in order to fit her into the narrow end of the balcony. I can only imagine her potential if she'd been given a bit more space and sunshine, and a bigger pot too!

Thanks Fred! Today on the Godfather I found 2 cola tops that were starting to die off from caterpillar damage that escaped the previous spray cycles I did. I saved some of cut off stuff that wasn't affected, and just that gave sticky fingers, very gooey buds on this girl.

Far out, they are looking wicked . The colour of the Godfather is brilliant and the frostiness of them all looks very tasty . Well done on a rip roaring season
Cheers Zeb! It's only once a year so gotta put our best foot forward and I ask the ladies to do the same with their buds!
So if you're banned to the balcony.....where do you dry? Ha
I have an unused studio room that I commander for the 3 or 4 weeks I need to whole plant dry, trim, and jar. I would love to have a tent in there for all year round growing too but family puts the kibosh on that.

Do you do the root ball too or just chop at the base?
Last year I just chopped at the base as I was unable to remove the root ball by pulling at it (they were quite large plants), and besides I was attempting this during a brief moment when the family was out and the coast was clear to do so, I felt if I tried to pull any harder that I would rip it out and potentially send soil flying everywhere and then no doubt I'd get berated for the mess, so I ended up just cutting them at the base.

However, @nickeluring who does wonderful auto grows, he uses a whole plant approach to drying which I was impressed enough to do also. He made the good suggestion to use a bread knife to cut out the main root structure to allow the plant an even slower dry, so this grow I will look to do that and get the roots too.

Very green balcony, stunger! You've def made the most of your growing situation!
Smile and stay stoneder.

They look heavy now Stunger! Hang in! So beautiful!
Cheers Otter, it's funny that you've already grown out 2 of my 3 strains, and very reassuring that you liked them! :high-five:

Thanks Fred! We gotta use what we can eh. :meatballs:

Bud update!

This grow is getting closer and closer to its logical conclusion, which means not long to go now.

Today, I snipped off several bud bits that caterpillars had damaged causing the affected bud to go brown and airy. I think it is expected when growing outdoors to get some collateral damage. Thankfully, it was only a little bit in the scheme of things, but nonetheless you can't help looking at the remains of some once lovely gooey sticky bud and mourn the loss of its euphoric potential.

I took some close ups of the buds, partially to see how the trichomes were looking, and just to observe what was happening in general. I was pleased to see that they remain in pretty good condition.
