Hey folks. It's currently Winter time in the Southern Hemisphere, and that means if the Summer has gone well you get to enjoy testing out the harvest.
Smoking, vaping, consuming...
Around 15 years ago I moved to vaping from combustion. For a long time I used a pure convection vape (a Silver Surfer, nice bit of kit) but more recently my daily driver has been a 3rd party Dynavap (a Simrell Vortex) which I'd heat with an induction heater, it works very well, but I think it pushes beyond convection vaping to produce a vapour that is a little bit more 'toasty'. Although it does make for great punchy clouds of vapour but when I indulge too much I feel it in the lungs. Everything has a threshold.
More new 'testers', more vaping...
So after the harvest just gone, I immediately went into the testing phase. My new testers were
Frozen Black Cherry,
Super Lemon Haze and a
Mulanje Sherbert that had flowered 3 weeks longer than last year's 2023 Mulanje Sherbert which was my favourtite of 2023. So I was curious to compare the 2023 cured for one year that was still sticky in the jar and smells absolutely delightful, against this year's bud that flowered for 3 weeks longer than 2023, surely there would be some difference noticeable I thought.
And then a grow buddy shows up with freshly harvested bud from his grow...
With all this fresh bud from more never-tried-before new strains, I was soon experiencing many prolonged states of zootedness. And quite negatively, my lungs were beginning to feel like they were getting as gummed up, just like a vape prior to cleaning.
Decarbing...
That's when I dug out my old Ardent Nova and decided to take the pressure off my lungs and instead try decarbed bud, delivered as an edible.
I have not vaped now for 2.5 months, I have only consumed decarbed bud, it's usually chomped down with a portion of dark chocolate.
The appreciation of the bud when ingested is different from that combusted or vaped.
How do I make a smoke report when the high of the decarbed bud is felt differently and hard to separate from one another?
It is tricky to compare of the highs of decarbed bud after being used to vaping. When decarbed bud is ingested the first sense of it's effect may take upwards of an hour to appear, and by 3 hours or more later the effect can be very strong but even then the come down can last quite a few hours.
So far...
I really like the
Super Lemon Haze, it has a body and head effect that is nice embracing and enhancing. It is great for day or night. My plant didn't have a strong lemon smell but there is a very slight lemon-like smell to her more airy bud, similar to the clearing sharpness of her stem rub. I had read many great experiences with
SLH and it came well recommended too (cheers Emeraldo!). I find this a great strain for day or night. I sleep great with this one, and it is a lovely accompaniment to day time activities or just chilling. I need to keep a low plant and I don't think it liked the training and I only got a low amount of bud and would have loved to have got a weightier harvest of her buds. But for growing again, even though it is probable that I won't be again to get the most out of her, I am sure I want to grow her again.
A
for sure.
The
Frozen Black Cherry, does indeed have a cherry or fruity like scent to her hard sticky buds. But after decarbing it smells more like ABV, nothing great. But after sitting in the jar while decarbed, its earlier fruity cherry scent become evident again. It is quite pleasant to inhale. breeder notes mentioned up to 36% THC but really, who knows, and who can define what we feel down to a THC number. I was most attracted to this for being an Indica dominant strain. As I wanted something that would be good to take in the evening to assist with a great sleep too. I get this with the
FBC, a nice relaxed sleep and invariably I don't get up in the night which is great.
I can see myself growing this again. I have enjoyed this both day and night times. And I got a better return on her bud wise, so as a jar filler she's great, but without considering that my first choice would the
SLH.
I have to give her a
too, she's decent and dependable.
The bud of the 2024
Mulanje Sherbert has been flowered 3 weeks longer than last year's but I can't really tell a difference when decarbed. A grow buddy finds similar when vaped. However its effect I think is the strongest. I don't find it good for sleeping but perhaps that is also down to dosage, I feel I dream too actively with it compared either
SLH or
FBC. To me it is probably the punchiest of the three but the
SLH is up there too.
Decarbed...
It's different, when compared to vaping. With vaping my lungs were beginning to complain and now they aren't. So I think I am best to continue along the ingestion route and just embrace it. No one's getting any younger unfortunately. Maybe in the future I'll investigate something like a Source Turbo for making oils and concentrates.
So that's the scores on the doors at the moment
I did removed the old rotted root stumps and added some amendments to the trough that I just hand mixed them into the soil. I included some composted chicken soil, fresh worm castings, 15 Litres of Pumice as I'd like the aeration content a little bit higher. I place some bird deterrent wire as they like to make a mess picking out their favourite amendments.
Seed Making
I was able to made crosses of last year's
MS with this year's
SLH and
FBC, regulars of course which require more time and effort to sex them before committing to growing and training them. So I would love to say I'll grow them next but I haven't yet given it thought altho I am sure they'd be great.
Next grow
However the trough is ready to take it's next grow. I think I will revert back to training with topping, LST and Supercropping and combine that with ruthless removal of weak growth. Unfortunately I am currently uncertain on whether the house needs some painting/work, because if it does that might throw a spanner in the works.
Finally had my hernia repaired
I think it has been 3.5 years since it happened. But more recently it was beginning to get bigger and the time had come to stop putting it off. I choose a 'Desarda' hernia repair which doesn't use surgical mesh but it's open as it can't be done keyhole. Thankfully it is very minor and I had that done yesterday, I still feel a bit uncomfortable when making movements but it's improving and hopefully tonight I'll sleep much better. So far I never used the painkillers I was prescribed and I won't bother now, but it was good to have them as a backup.
That's me, up to date pretty much I think...
After I post this I will be hitting the sack, and will hopefully get a great sleep because I don't think I slept at all last night.
I won't immediately return back to my thread as I would like to first check out everyone else's threads and see what they are no doubt doing marvellously!
Look forward to catching up, cheers.
