Time for a Flower Room update

Those look great! Last time I popped in you were having all sorts of problems, I am glad you prevailed!

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Hi X,

Good insider info...thanks. What comes to mind first...I could just drop a piece of one into the 5 gallon jugs of RO that Honey brings home to me. do they eventually dissolve? I syphon from those jugs into one gallon containers, and don't want it clogging my little hand pump.

A couple more questions...How long should it be in the water before I use that water? Does that matter? And what will it do to the pH and ec's when I mix nutes with that water? If I understood you right...you put it into your ro water and then use that water to mix with. That's basically what I'll be doing.

Thanks again X...you're always full of good ideas.

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Hi Mr.K,

Also, always good ideas... the pieces hanging on the sides will work good, but the one in the middle will pose a problem I think, trying to keep it out of the way when I want in. If I could find a way to *catch* it off to one side while I'm pulling the girls in and out of there. Maybe with duct tape (good tip, btw :) ) I could put like a button hole for a catch loop to a hook. Anyway, for now I've made the little room more light tight...I really don't think enough leaks to cause a problem now. Only time will tell.

Thanks for looking in and for the good ideas

bid...LMAO :rofl: You are too funny!

I agree with you 420% on the BPN vs others...he's gonna kick their butts when he can get up and running on a large scale and compete with the big boys. I can't wait to see him do it. Hooray for the little guy.

What concentration are you using for that 50/50 mix? Do you spray the buds too? Aren't you worried about the extra moisture and humidity...my hum is pretty high in the morning just as the lights come up 70%, but it drops to mid 50's in the first hour or so.

Thanks for droppin' by and for the wonderful words of flattery... I always try to be a good mama. I love my girls. :)

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Hi Buckshot,

Ya, they are looking much better now...most of the problems have been solved. However I did see a couple gnats in there, must find a way to keep them evicted. X gave me another idea. Will get some of those dunks this week and see if it helps.

Thanks for lookin'...give it another couple weeks and things should be really nice, every day they seem to look better to me. Those BPN "concoctions" are really doing a good job. I've just added Liquid Seaweed and Vita Blue to their feeding schedule, and next week the dose goes up to the next level...I'm so excited to see such pretty flowers in there again.

Well, thank you!

I'd do a clean sock or hosiery with part of one in it inside the containers your husband gets you, that way no precipitate will get into your pump, etc. They just float on top and then the BT in it (Bacillus Thuringiensis, a specific bacteria that only affects a limited range of insect gets) gets into the water. When digested by bugs this bacteria causes them to stop eating and starve to death. Though the bugs don't disappear right away upon being infected with the bacteria, they DO stop eating right away, so even their presence can be seen as less threatening right off the bat. I would think even a day is good for having the dunks in the water. You want the bacteria to also end up living in your media so it just needs to get into your water supply. It needs to be somewhat continuous/ongoing as BT has a fairly short life. Eventually, the fungus gnats all starve to death.

The mosquito dunks eventually turn soggy and mushy like chunky oatmeal, when there is nothing solid left, I replace it. I usually bleach wash the sock I put them in about the same time, or switch it out. A sock filters these pretty well as they are pretty thick chunks when the become detached. This particular form of BT is only effective on certain bugs like mosquitos and fungus gnats, this is nice as beneficials are not impacted by BT, for example.

I just saw a product called "Mosquito Bits" which are small bits that can be sprinkled on top of your media, so that they get into the media that way. This might be a great ammendment to the top of your hempies - some of these "mosquito bits" (which are BT also). Actually, these bits might work better for you perhaps than the mosquito "dunks" I use...

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Hi X,

You saw the same thing I did...while searching the web last night I found those "bits" too, and thought they would work good. I was going to put a few of them into a nylon, then hang into my 5 gallon jug...you think I could just drop a few on top of the medium instead? That might be better//easier.

Great info on the BT and how it works... :adore: you truly are a well of information.

:Namaste:

Put them in the nylon in the jug, I think it will work better that way. I use them in my pond.

Could be - i have confidence in the nylon/jug thing, but I'm unsure on the bits, too. My gut tends to agree with you - though perhaps it wouldn't hurt to do both?

I was in a hurry...Sorry so fuzzy, my photography skills haven't improved.

The time change has the lights going out an hour earlier now...I decided to shorten the 12/12 to 11/13 by 15 minutes every couple days for the next week or so...I think this may help them to hurry up and finish. The veg room is becoming quite cramped now. I'm gonna have to give away more plants soon if they get too much bigger. I've got a little Wonder Woman bonsai that's just beggin' to flower. :)

The flowering girls got a little bigger dose of BPN this week...

now feeding with

7 Micro, 12 Grow, 20 Bloom, 8 Liquid Blue, 15 Liquid Seaweed, 7.5 Vita-Blue. They seem to be happy....and the smell, wow, my mouth waters every time I open the doors. :yummy:

I've also changed the way I water...I've been doing it more like a drench, than a slow drizzle. Something X said about the more run off the better, so I've been giving them a lot of water for run off, they seem to be happy with it so far.

I still have a flying bug issue...I've seen maybe 5. But I can't find any signs of them on the plants, no little crawlers anywhere.
:hmmmm:

I ordered some mosquito bits tonight, they should be here in a few days, also order some silica. So I'll add those things when they show up next week.

I haven't made up my mind yet...I'm toying with the idea of harvesting in two stages this time. All the branches have stretched so much that it might be beneficial to try that this time. If I leave the lower buds for a week or so longer I'm bettin' they'll put on more weight. I'll wait until closer to harvest time to decide for sure.

I've read several journals where this has worked out well...any thoughts on this style of harvesting are much appreciated.

Thanks for looking, hope you enjoy

Hi Folks

Must make a correction...the girls are at 21 days flower, not 28 like my update said.

I didn't have my calendar in front of me last night while posting.

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Hi Sqwheels -

I've 2 stage harvested. The buds did get slightly larger/more swelled on the lower branches, but they also ended up being too "done" compared to the other ones. Even though some of them looked under-developed, the extended time made them over-developed.

Now, I let them go another two weeks - perhaps another one week would have been better. Still, just make sure you don't end up with too many ambers or over-done bud. Even if the lowers don't look it, they might be done anyway, if that makes sense... I ended up with a bunch of sleepy bud that I didn't enjoy as much except right before bed. In retrospect, I'd have rather had less weight and the right "high". Your mileage may vary... Just wanted to give you the feedback on my experience with it. :)

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Thanks X, the experienced info is always nice to have...I'll keep a close eye on them.

And thanks for the compliment. Ya they look good. They are getting sooo sticky now. And the smell. Man, I have to drag myself out of there sometimes. I'd just sit and watch them if I didn't have so much to do.

Second defol coming this weekend, should let in a lot more light...although I have been pinching leaves here and there whenever they are blocking too much light anyway, so I guess I can't really say I stick to that 21/42 days thing strictly.

I gave away 2 more plants, a WW and BbG, from the veg room because of space. I took a clone of the Blueberry Gum, this is the second time I've grown this BbG to a decent size and then given it away... One of these days I'll actually get to flower this plant.

Thanks for looking, hope you enjoy

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

WOW! They look SOOOOOO good. :bravo:

What a nice payback after all the bug-fighting, nail-biting, hassles in veg, huh?!?! I sure like that Wonder Woman. :yummy: Nice job! +rep :)

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Wonder woman is a beast! Is that the same one that won POTM?

I didn't like the 2nd round from my 2 stage harvest either, I thought I had wasted the space in the flower room that could have been used for the next batch sooner. My $.02

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Hi X,

Thanks a lot...I think they look pretty good too. And yes...nice payback after all the hassles, for sure. The AI looks like she'll be finishing on schedule...her trics are almost completely cloudy, with just a few amber. And she has lots of what I call *sweat*...when looking thru my little microscope if you look closely under the trics (which all look like *mushrooms* to me) I can see lots of glistening on the leaves themselves. Does that make any sense? I don't hear many people talk about this...do you see this on your plants?

Thanks for looking in on me...sorry, I've not been online much...not feeling too well, and the girls are taking most of my energy right now.

Hope you are well, you're in my thoughts daily.

re: Sqwheels' Garden - Bonsai Style

Hi Surfbuddy,

Nice to see you.

It's a clone from that plant. It's the plant/strain that my buddy sent home with me way back when I started my first journal. I love her...she never gives me any trouble, and she loves the bonsai style growing I force her into. The one I have in the veg room right now is just begging to flower. I can't wait for the girls in flower finish so I can put this new WW under the 400w for a couple weeks, then flower...she's a beauty. The one flowering right now is actually much bigger than I intended...I can't lift it anymore.

Thanks for your $.02, much appreciated. I've pretty much decided against a two stage harvest...I've got plants waiting in veg. I'll probably just use all the little undergrowth to experiment with dry ice hash...I've been wanting to try it since I saw a vid in Mr.K's journal...too cool.
