Spimps NLxBB Auto Micro CFL's 2013

Well thats another problem Sir Alex. I ordered a tent (36x20x63) last week and it still hasnt shipped!!! Ive decided to build a reflector rig for my cfl's to put into the tent but If I dont get it in the next 2-3 weeks, Spimp is gonna be in trouble! When the girls looked like this:

I thought I had no chance to save them all. But Love and Tender care has made me have the "too many plants" problem. :) But hopefully the auto will finish in the next 30-45 days and that will free up alot of space. But The tent is CRUCIAL. :)

Lookin good my friend. On the soil thing, I re-used the soil from my BV, as I had really, really flushed over 3 weeks I knew the soil would be clean enough. I'd let it dry out in the old pot with the root mass still there. It had been inside the whole time. I just grabbed the stump pulled shook , then hit root mass to get the soil falling off. Quite a lot of of roots came with and just made sure their were no big clumps and left rest in.
Where has it been sat, anywhere that little beasties might have got to it? You could cook it off but its a ball ache, and makes your kitchen smell of earth.
If its still full of nutes then you'd want to water loads with clear stuff. hope this helps!

Thanks Light Addict.

The soil has been siting on the bathroom floor in a very big bowl. I rotate it every few days to help it dry out. There are some nutes, but only a weeks worth. Not a full growths worth. Im considering wetting it quite a bit then placing it in the sun to dry. They dont have put very few roots in them so i dont need to do too much I think, But I really appreciate anyone who has reused soil before chiming in as to make me more confident. :):)

So you're saying re-using soil is ok?

Under certain circumstances, I think yes. My soil was only used for a few weekswith very small plants. So I know they didnt drain all the good stuff.
If you have huge plants with tons of roots, they have probably stripped the good stuff out of the soil so you would have to put it back in.

I have an added advantage. :) I have heavily rinsed my soil with ph'd water and it is bakin in the sun today. After it dries to my liking, Ill add some of the Dogget and Simpson mycor and let it cook for a couple weeks. That should not just bring it back, but make it better than before.
The soil I buy I try to get little to no NPK value anyway. So im the one adding to it and I know exactly what has been in it.

Good Weed Reg btw. :slide:

Thanxx, it doesn't really matter right now. I was just wondering if maybe I shouldn't have thrown Shirley's soil out. Just being my usual cheap self.;) It's still something good to know. Good Weed back atcha...

Hi mate,

plants are looking much better and the new seedlings look perfect, i think you found the problem and solved it my friend, have some reps for putting the time in to care for them, most would of binned them and focussed on new plants, but you mothered them along and lets hope they return the love at harvest,

i re-use soil, the way i look at it is this, people grow in just perlite which has nothing at all in it for the plants, people grow in coco coir which again is just something for the roots to grow into and hold the plant up, so i re-use soil quite often and have no problems what so ever, but if i have a problem with a plant then i wont re-use that soil as it is possible the ph is not right or their is some kind of salt build up in the soil, so i only re-use soil if the plants before grew well and had no problems, some growers prefer to replace the soil each time they plant new plants, i used to but i tried using the soil twice and found plants grew exactly the same with no problems what so ever,

you may need to feed nutrients a bit earlier as most compost in a big pot will feed a plant for 4 to 8 weeks depending on the plant and the soil, my ww x sk has not had nutrients until i flipped it 12-12 and i recon it could of went another couple of weeks as it looked a nice healthy colour, but when i re-use soil i have to give nutrients a bit sooner which is not a problem as we give them nutrients anyway but just means starting a couple of weeks earlier,

what i dont do is start seedlings or clones in old soil, i always start my seedlings in fresh soil as i dont want to have seedlings and clones die because the soil is to hot with nutrients but i stop feeding nutrients the last 2 weeks of flower so the plant usually uses up everything anyway so their is not much in the soil at harvest, but the 2nd time round the soil is acting more as something for the roots to grow into instead of feeding the plant so you will start nutrients earlier,

im sure you can start seedlings in used soil but i tend not to as i like my seedlings to be healthy and nute free for the first 2 weeks of growth, it stops any problems.

its not the best option re-using soil, so im not saying its the best thing to do or trying to promote people to re-use soil, im just saying its something i do and i dont have any problems, if i do have problems with a plant then that soil wont be re-used, when i do re-use soil though i tip it out the pots and get as much of the root mass out as i can and make sure the soil is well mixed up again as it clogs together.

so yes you can re-use soil but its not something i would recomend as its always best to use new soil, but i re-use soil and my plants grow as well as they did the first time round, its all about the nutrients to be honest the second time round,

Very good point about seedlings. Im seedlings are more vulnerable to any prblems the old soil may have that arent much of a concern to more established plants.
I repotted some of Mrs Spimps houseplants in a mix from old soil today but dont tell her that!

Ive been researching mycor and other organics looking to improve my soil blend. Id like to have a few things in my soil to help me not have to add everything through a chemcial nutrient.

Hey spimp good day sir :) I generally cast my monthly vote..... The day voting opens :)
