SoilGirl's Soil Multi-Strain Grow Journal 2014

Go strong at it, SG. Human being has force that may not get revealed in a normal situation, but with the right circumstances you will!

Lol... wonder why she was so surprised - and at first horrified - that I'm bi... :scratchinghead: I digress.)

I might end up moving back to Denver after I get everything outside harvested... Maybe I'll be able to find a job growing for someone, lord knows there's lots of 420 businesses starting around Denver. Anyone here know anyone that may be able to help with that? worth a shot asking.

Hahah thanks Ants. I really wish I was. I'd give anything to be in a truly friendly community of people like these here on 420 mag in real life. Imagine that. What a beautiful community it would be. We should make it happen. Preferably in Colorado Lol.

I never liked that saying, "it could always be worse." To me it always kinda seems like a disingenuous way of saying, "Hey, at least you don't live in Mogadishu." - not to mention, things always seem to get worse once its said. Hopefully that isn't the case though, thank you for the support Ants. You're a really nice guy.

Ok.. and the countdown until you get about 1,000 PMs begins.. NOW!

I know the folks from CO might be better at hooking you up with a job, but I do have some family out there that frequent Vail, which is just outside Denver, and it might be a long shot, but I'll give it a try anyways, so I'll see if he knows anyone.

I totally agree with you, how about a gated community filled with just growers. The crime rate there would be 0 :) And the power use would be astronomical lol.

But as it is now, I'd invite most of the folks here to have a smoke with me if you were ever out my way. Everyone here is real normal and down to earth, and it'd be cool meeting other growers in person to shoot the shit about growing, strains, etc..

If you don't like that saying, we can simplify things with Rob Schneider yelling "YOU CAN DO IT!" lol Just stay positive, and it'll all come together. You've already found a solution with the guerilla grow, so keep on working with that. You can do anything when you put your mind to it.

LOL - Meeting growers behind closed gates. We'd all bring our best herb and be couchlocked watching "Pineapple Express" or "Cheech and Chong" within the hour :)

Talking to growers in person is very good, but I've only done it 3 times (2 local.)

Maybe we could meet in Amsterdam or Barcelona and go strain shopping - oh wait, just the Western USA !

jumping a few posts that i will fall back on and read..

but one good thing to keep in mind is if you can elevate your compost, your compost will supply you will free tea :)

also i just recently did a test on the same strain of clone under the same type of light and use regular water from my tank and some compost tea and the root difference was far from comparable, just posted pics if you want to check em out soilgirl.. going back to read, caught a glimpse of your dads out of jail!! thats always a great feeling (for him) hopefully he got a good warm meal right when he was out followed with a nice long shower... them assholes

Edit : i hope u dont feel like i cursed you ;) but i told the same thing to my fiance about her broccoli plants and up till 2 weeks ago she was still spraying her plants with pepper spray till we got this cold weather up in the mtns, havent seen any lil baby pillars lately.. heard on news you guys are starting to dip down in the cold weather urselfs..

Edit Edit... well sorry for not reading fully first, i would say you need away from ur surroundings from what ive read. like you mentioned there are hundreds of jobs opening up and continuing to open up, i just looked online in washington and was at least 300+ recreational jobs and the medical community is still hiring too.

Hi everyone, your support means so much to me, thank you everyone for coming by. :passitleft: I'll answer you each personally a little later, but for now I'll just share whats going on with the growing situation. My Dad and I have agreed on an arrangement that should work just fine for now, hopefully until we can get his legal problems sorted out. Hopefully we'll be able to either get him off probation, or at least get him off of UA's and BA's, and then things can hopefully return to normal...

So, since my Dad doesn't meet with his P.O. for the first time for another 10 days, we're pretty comfortable there aren't going to be any random home visits until then, but just in case all my outdoor plants have found a new home in that overgrown corner by the hedges I was talking about before. (growing outdoors in a place where people can see/possibly steal from plants is still illegal here - and god forbid if the HOA finds out >.<) But until the 23rd, I'm going to keep all my indoor plants inside, let them get at least a little veg time, then they'll be evacuated to the overgrown corner as well.

My upcoming indoor grow, sadly, will have to wait for a while until we get this sorted out; my Dad just thinks the indoor grow is too sketchy, and since he's charged with a felony, he's worried he can still be considered responsible for the plants on his property. I think thats ridiculous. But Idk the fine print about it all.. and it's his house. I don't pay rent. I have a free ride here. I don't have much of a bargaining position. Either way, as long as my outdoor plants make it to harvest, I should be set for a while.

And the best news, the grow room isn't coming down. I convinced him to just let me get some blackberries/other random plants started in there once my plants move out. It took some very frustrating rationalizing with him (he thought that it was illegal to have an indoor grow room like that at all, that it must obviously mean its connected to cannabis - I managed to convince him its legal to grow non-420 plants in there >.< boy, that was a stupid debate for so many reasons. not gonna dwell on it.)

I may get some pics today. It got cold and drizzly for a couple days.... so my plants got covered with trashbags >.< there's still some definite overcast out here. Found a couple more dead worms on top of buds, a little poo scattered about, but didn't make it inside the buds.. so seems like the MGIS is doing its trick. I mauled a couple buds to make absolutely sure no poop stayed in... but I'm just going to try and stop worrying about it. I'll wash my buds for the first time this harvest, as unsettling as it sounds >.< hopefully that will get any surface poo and any leftover spray out of my medicine.

OK gonna go check on my plants, they've not gotten much attention from me, and I want to see how their terpenes are developing (I want to go stick my nose in the buds and never come back :laughtwo: but I'll be back and will answer you each in turn. See ya soon.)

Fire up the woodstove

We going to see some record breaking pumpkins !! ;)

indoor gardens (veggies and herbs) are great. nothing like fresh veggies all year round.

Glad to hear that you've got something worked out with him. Delighted to hear that the grow room stays. Overjoyed to hear you've got your nose in your plants.

And. may I, after some careful thought, suggest that whilst you have a breathing space, and you're in a happy place with your gorgeous girls, think about your own future. Remember, you're a top girl, SoilGirl, x

UGHH I left the edit screen open and responded to each of you at length >.< >.< >.< but it didn't let me edit because it took too long.......
I think for now I'll just summarize with:

Thank you Conrad! You rock, I will!

Thanks so much Ants, I like "you can do eet!!" better, and we need a community like this in real life.

Rado, I don't have any herb yet, but I'll make the munchies and bring a couple movies! Just bought "Princess Mononoke" one of Hiyao Miyazaki's movies, epic, totally a must see in my opinion for when you're well and truly medicated. Its Sublime :circle-of-love:

Gfc, do you mean just a compost bin suspended a few feet off the ground? I have one of those lol. But how does that supply me with free tea >.< haha. And yeah my dad got a warm welcome, but he definitely ruined my day. Its ok. Things are working out, life goes on. No curse haha, no worms today, weather definitely dipped but its back to normal-ish lol. I'd love to be independent, have my own place where I can grow and get by, but for now I'm going to stay here and see how things go.

Corgie, thank you for coming by, yes it certainly did. Hope you're well :)

I'm just so happy my grow room doesn't have to come down hahaha, I love growing all things, you learn a lot growing other things than just cannabis, but I definitely have a favorite plant to grow - which people here can relate to ;) Our blackberries this year did awful so my dad wants me to get a few big and strong to move outside next spring.
Glad to hear that you've got something worked out with him. Delighted to hear that the grow room stays. Overjoyed to hear you've got your nose in your plants.

Thanks so much Mr. Teddy. You're a top guy  I'm wondering how things are gonna go in the next few months... I really want my independence.. but part of me is just like, revolted at the thought of a 9 to 5 wage slave job. I feel like once I start there's no coming back. For now, I'm mostly focused on getting the plants I already have going through harvest though >.<

I have lots of thinking to do >.< and no buds....... ugh.
See ya! :ciao:

Hey soilgrl! On my cell so sorry for a short response.
Compost tea can be made two diff ways. If yours is nice and old compost at the very bottom should be some nice dark broken up compost that is very small particles. U can take a shovel full of that and add water into a 5 gal bucket and add a air stone or hand mix it a few times daily. After 3 days strain it out and u have some rich tea (believe I read u put worms in yours so that's perfect) the grower that taught me about this had a hole drilled at the bottom of a 50 gallon barrel and a plug in it, when he pulled on it a dark liquid started to leak out so of u have a good compost blend w worms in there should be a juice at the bottom. I hope that helps I just found this too homecompostingmadeeas.com /composttea.html

Thank you Gfc, nice share! :high-five: After seeing the rooting difference in your little experiment, I'm rethinking my earlier conclusion about teas. I think I'll do an experiment of my own with that soon, hopefully indoors if all works out >.< my Dad just found out he got new terms of probation - hopefully thats good, and he can be off of UA's/UB's and home visits especially. If thats the case... then my dad says he'll give me the all clear on the indoors.
Cross your fingers for me guys!! I'm almost inclined to go pray >.< almost.

Anywho... UPDATE TIME!! (Sorry for the long wait!!)

So, my plants have been a bit neglected these last 8 days, but they're still rolling along. I've also neglected to visit any journals I'm following since about then..... :sorry::sorry::sorry: so I'll get this over with, I'm excited to go see everyone else's progress! Please forgive the amateur photography lol.

I'm getting excited for harvest, did my very first trichome check today... with an awful plastic magnifying glass lol. And harvest is a-comin' ... I found quite a few little clusters of amber! I bet 2 weeks until first chop. It's a race between Euphoria, Big Mama, and Juicy Lucy at this point. If I had to bet, it'd probably be Mama first, but Euphoria or Lucy may surprise me. I'm not just waiting for amber, their calyxxes are still trying to gain some weight, the sweet hearts. :circle-of-love:

Ok lets get on to the pics hahaha. Let's start with the smallest, the Lucy twins - AKA my Bonsai Lucy clones. They had 0 days veg lol. It was straight outdoors once they rooted, into the shortening days that were flowering all my other outdoor plants. I'm surprised that they're filling out as much as they are actually, I didn't expect much from them. They're so cute  and trying their best to get me a decent yield. (By the way, like the table that I painted myself in third grade in the background lol? I love it still :))

022324.jpg

Now Mini Mama, my lovely foot-tall Mama clone. She is the image of health lol, and might even end up giving me fatter, denser, stickier buds than her momma!! Which kind of makes her name redundant lmao. But whatever. I kinda f**ked up her mom, as many parents say, you make your mistakes with the first, (that would be me LOL) and her smell is like an enhanced, sweeter version of her mom's.
I kept her short on purpose, hand training a lot through her whole life, and one fim. I'm really proud of the results, see for yourself though:

023301.jpg
024271.jpg
025277.jpg

Now her nursing mate, Mini Lucy, (cloned at the same time in the same ghetto-fabulous cloner Lol) who has much the same history. I also did a single fim on her resulting in the same number top nodes (3 - but you couldn't tell now that she's filled in) and did plenty of hand training through her life to keep her short. (oh, and one supercrop for an unruly top lol) Her limbs fanned out beautifully, in a nice circular shape, and she has more exposed bud sites than I can count as a result.

All my Lucy girls have a pungent, haze-like, sweet, citrusy, and a bit of coffee in there sorta smell. LOVE it. Although they don't seem to fatten out as much as my other strains, so they won't be huge yielders. Fine with me - I needed a sativa strain and I'm very happy with the terpenes she's shown.

029216.jpg
030193.jpg
032179.jpg

On to momma Juicy Lucy herself. I'm so glad I didn't mess her up like Big Mama, she showed early signs of whatever issues Big Mama had, but it never got that bad, thank the sun god :) She's in a race to the finish now. I saw a few clusters of amber in her (under 5%) and her calyxxes are finally putting on some weight, they needed it, she was a touch on the anorexic side until recently.

Her terpenes are back to that amazing sweet citrusy coffee/spice smell I mentioned earlier. Definitely a sativa, where Mama is definitely on the indica side. For a while I almost thought Lucy and Mama could be different pheno's of the same strain, must have been the cigarettes lol, because now I'd have to be on crack to see much similarity between the two.

026263.jpg
028239.jpg
027239.jpg

Now... probably the worst pics of this update lol... but a truly lovely plant, BBK. (Black Bubba Kush: Black Domina x Bubba Kush)
I think of all my strains this time around, this one is the one built for yield. She was the last of the original 4 strains outdoors to start flowering, but she's bulking up Fast. She has trichomes now (I cant believe this is the first you'll see of her trichs, I've really been slacking >.<) and her density is something to be reckoned with.

Also that bubba smell... just getting stronger and stronger, but I'm finally getting my first hint of the Domina in there... Just the slightest hint of spiced tang under that overpowering Bubba. I hope the Bubba terpenes stay predominant. I'm going to grow her like an indica and wait for lots of amber before chopping.

033177.jpg
034154.jpg
035155.jpg

On to Euphoria, still my frostiest plant, maybe my frostiest ever - I've never grown a strain whose trichomes reached so far out into the fan leaves. I'm going to get amazing trim and hash from this plant, if I can bring myself to even remove those leaves LOL. I bet they'd smoke just fine themselves once cured properly. I was really struggling with photography for her lol... I just never seem to be able to do her justice. I need to get a new digital camera before my (hopefully upcoming) indoor grow.

She's in a race to the finish now, not a huge yielder, but I know to expect some major potency from her. I'm happy with how dense the buds she has are, though. I'm seeing like 10-20% amber on her sugar leaves, but having a hard time ID'ing any in the inner buds with my crappy magnifying glass.
As for her terpenes, the grapefruity/orange citrus is back with a vengence, intermingled with that great black pepper smell. It is Pungent. whenever I pick her up, its like I'm sticking my nose into a freshly opened jar of buds... Lol. I bet some neighbors down the block every now and then are like *sniff* "wooh!"
Once again, crap photography, I know >.<

037142.jpg
038136.jpg
039133.jpg
040120.jpg
041121.jpg

Now onto Big Mama! She's recovered from my messing with her nutes and pH, she has probably 10-15% amber total, even inside the buds, and her calyxxes are finally putting on weight and swallowing up those pistils, but I'm still not very happy with the fact that her buds just haven't filled out so much... her offspring is putting her to shame in that regard. It's hard to tell, but when you open up her buds, there's still space where I'd usually expect to see her buds start colliding and intertwining in their growth.

Sweet, fruity, hashy smell... going to be a nice lazy couch potato's smoke. Going to need munchies for this one lol.
First off, I mentioned how I defol'ed her pretty hard a little while ago, here's the results of that.

And... My Indoor Vegging Plants! -soon to go outdoors

I have totally neglected these for a couple weeks. Now my 2 crazy reveg clones, the Mama and Lucy cuttings, are both showing nitrogen deficiencies. Lucy got the worst of it though, and even noticed some necrotic new growth fans on her - picked em off, dunno what thats all about. If it gets worse I'll post pics and see if I can get some help.

With all the revegging going on, it looks a bit like a freak show, at least to me Lol. This reveg stuff is very new to me. They're alive and vegging though, going to have to get some soil ready for their move outdoors in a week.

Hahahah thanks for coming back so soon Gfc! Well, I've been super lazy and haven't done my nails for like 2 months Lol >.< come to think of it... its about time. :laughtwo: You'll be seeing purple again soon :Love::Love:
and thank you for the kind words! I'm hoping the indoor grow can still happen as planned still, and yeah.. thank goodness those monstrosities haven't shown their ugly faces for a while >.< maybe I'm not looking hard enough :wood:

temps could be cold enough to be keeping them at bay? i dont have much experience with pillars so been learning about them from you and a couple other growers here. As much as i dislike pests, they keep the gardens entertaining. without them it wouldnt be a good soap opera ;) i understand fully about not having enough time to do things such as "my nails" ive been trying to find time to get to every garden and make my products for the shop as well as keeping the fiance happy. i made dinner last night (been working 60-80 hrs a week so weve been eating out lately) and the fiance said "wow, your making dinner?" this use to be something i did everyday and thought about all day. wish we had more time in the day. winter hours doesnt help!

Maybe it was the temps, definitely could be, but today it spiked back up to 90! I was dripping sweat by the time I came back in >.< gross. If I find any more any time soon, it may be time to try out this new Azamax.

You sure sound busy!! But that's so nice of you to still put some time into keeping the future-wifey happy  she sounds like a lucky girl lol. I need to find me a boyfriend who runs a dispensary... or a girlfriend LOL. I also like to think I could contribute to their business ;) not just smoke all their buds hahaha - but there would probably be a lot of that too :laughtwo:

And thank you daTz!! You're very welcome :) I'm glad you enjoyed it!

;) yea she only smokes cbds (she was under the impression that cbds is the only medicine from the plant) as many have found out here i am a strong believer that you need both cbds and thc not counting cbg's or cbn, cbe, ect... just most people like my fiance have smoked flowers ranging from 15% thc to 23% thc and have had a not so fun time having a panic attack. i just recently got her to start mixing her bowls with half my flowers and half her flowers to get both effects. once i told her that since most plants have been grown with Cbds grown out of them that some people get uncomfortably high but when cbds are in the flower smoked it will actually help counter the anxiety feeling. its cured her migraines that she use to get every other day to at least once a week. dont recall when her last one was actually, going to have to ask her tonight if she even remembers. she also uses it for her time of the month, helps with many issues as most girls that smoke most likely know. shes a real down to earth girl and weve been best friends since we met 7 years ago almost to the day in a couple months. she is a strong believer in herbal medicine, she buys alot of herbs from mountain rose herbs online and makes a bunch of tinctures for many illness's. house truly looks like a apothecary.

i noticed last night my temps in my garden were right at 84 degrees witch is the highest ive seen it in the 16 days ive been in 12/12. figures (no face palm emotion) two nights of temps dipping into the 40s has killed my vegetable garden off, seems i have 2 tomato plants, 4 cucumbers and 1 pepper that has survived.. i managed to get some hay down around the base of them so i have about 6" of hay covering the soil hopefully harvest whats growing at least.. but if temps keep going up, then i guess i just bought a bail of hay to look at :loopy: im curious as to what temps pillars hibernate at, i have noticed not as many flying bugs around my outside porch light thats always a great sign

Hey nice update!! The camera quality might not be the best but the photography is amazing!

Those are some absolutely beautiful specimens, I know I would be just as attached to them as you are. I know the feeling about "I could lose everything I worked for for the last 6 months" for whatever X reason. We just try to cope and make things work one way or another and you are doing just that.

That is what I call a quality 420 Magazine update :)

Stay Relaxed and Positive my friend! :hugs: :circle-of-love:
