SoilGirl's Soil Multi-Strain Grow Journal 2014

beemerbill, :high-five: I am coming over to see how that monster is progressing in your yard, now! There is no member worse than me at following my friends yards, lol. I just don't do it, I visit based on seeing thumbs and familiar avatars, when I have time to, troll around. I may try to fix that, but for now, I enjoy my 420 time, just the way it is.

:ciao: SG
Me too! I'll be catching up on your 'yard' soon too Bee!
Hey S.girl. I likes your style!! Watch that CalMag toward the end. I've tasted it in the product of I use it too long.
I loves me the indoor/outdoor
Definitely will do, I like to do 2-week clean water flushes, but thanks for the advice and thanks for coming by!
Good advice...
agreed.

So. No pics today, but I did water big mama UKH1 with some newly arrived 0-10-0 jamaican bat guano, 1 tbsp/gal. I'm kinda hoping that will clear up some of the low growth struggles I'm seeing, but I didn't realize it had no nitrogen in it when I was buying. Also got a whole extra quart of CaMg+ and BioThrive Bloom today, since I seem to run out of those two at an increased rate. Yesterday, it was a bit of a pita, but I transplanted my mid-sized lucy clone into a 10-gal "Awesome Pot"-a fabric pot with very convenient little loops all around the top I can use for LSTing. I'm excited about these new fabric and air-pots, can't wait to see their magic on roots for myself.

I'm now realizing that the pots my plants are in for the most part are actually quite large. the standard for the larger pots being ~6+ gallons, I'm thinking now that big UKH1's pot is probably 8-9 gal. Lucy's is totally 10 gal. Euphoria is in a 6 gal if I had to guess, BBK's in probably a 4 gallon (will be transplanted to a slightly larger pot soon as soon as I get my 7 gal airpot in the mail) ... mid sized UKH1 clone is probably in a 5-6 gallon. My plants have been slurping up water, I've been watering at least once a day between all 11 outdoors, usually more than once.

Oh right... the horror... snapped off a branch of Euphoria...yes, a beautiful, absolutely lovely top, now tarnished and ruined, I feel like crying. Need to smoke and ask forgiveness.

So I've been getting a bit caught up around here :) Sorry if I've not made it to your journal yet, I will soon. Speak up and remind me, it'll jump to the top of my list ;) happy smoking guys, about to go smoke a little of my remaining Cherry D with my ladies. I'll say hi to them all for all of you! Bye!

Edit: So right when I clicked post on this, doorbell rings, my airpots are here! My seeds are here! (yes, but only 1 lousy freebie of each African Buzz and Northern Lights x Chronic. c'mon, one?? I suppose better than none... and I guess a bonus is they came with a nice weed-leaf coffee mug and a tin for the Blue Blood :S) Got some brand new fine tip fiskars scissors for when harvest time comes around too... I feel so spoiled. What else.... hmm. I'm so spacey since getting reacquainted with the Greenest Green. Ok my Dad's grumpy with me, gotta go do something for him! Cya!

Ahhh a two week flush.
I run mainly coco and usually only flush for 7-10 days.
I feed with every watering and I feel like the CalMag builds up.
It tastes like cat piss smells...gross!!
I usually nix it at about 50-75% cloudy trichs.
That equals about three weeks before chop-chop.
I've spent the last week in WA and now I can't wait until Mass catches up to CO and Washington with our reform.
We're shooting for '16

yeah don't want any of that in our buds.. Good luck to you and all of Mass. in your pursuit of happiness and medication/recreation ;) I think CO is at least proving the sky won't fall when we legalize it.

With all the cat hair "built into" my girl, I am not sure cat piss smell would be inappropriate LOL. Could be a new strain. Kittylicious, HightyKats, Klumpy Kush, etc...
:laughtwo:
There IS a strain called 'Cat Piss'! I swear I saw it at a dispensary I went to, and no I didn't try it! Lol.
Don't feel bad about the branch  Shit happens :biglaugh: Did you snap it all off? if not you can use some good old tape and will be good as new!
:high-five:
Oh yeah I totally know about the taping and cannabis' miracle healing abilities, sadly nope.... this branch is a 'goner. not a single fiber still attached, it was stupid. It was one of the lowest growth branches at some point apparently, when I side-LSTed Euphoria down though, it took off like mad, and actually really became its own top, even higher than the 4 tips I got from the latest FIM.
I tried to HST it down to the side because a top fan of it's was blocking light penetration to another potential cola, I bent it, heard an evil *rip* and it was just hanging there, a minute later the leaves were curled up and dying and turning gray, an hour later it was shriveled and pathetic. I plucked what was left of it off after a failed taping attempt. no more branch >.< UGH. need to take another puff lol. weed is my anger management. say that about alcohol. ha

Oh well, happens!!! A risk of HST, I also enjoy pulling on my girls, and has happened to me as well, but it's only a branch so enjoy the pufffs
I am enjoying the lower half of this nug right now, :circle-of-love: to me it tastes a little like grape soda, but I was just drinking grape soda :o

Lol, anyways, I'm gonna do an update now! Yay! :yahoo:

Just ordered these 4 babies on the bamazon because I enjoyed spiking my soil with Jamaican Bat Guano so much today lol and figured, I want to have as much dry + liquid organic/vganic nutes as possible! The more the merrier, and Thats my last 50 bucks. Bye money! Hello assorted bird/worm poops, and some other nice organic minerals and ferts!

Wiggle Worm Earthworm Castings 4.5 lb by Wiggle Worm
Hydrofarm SLPSG400 Peruvian Seabird Guano, 2.2 Pounds
Root Naturally Azomite Rock Dust - 2 Pounds
Soil Mender Yum Yum Mix 5 lb

nothing new with my 3 clones, 2 EUP/1 BBK, just chilling in the ghetto cloner doing their thing lol.

So today I mixed up a few gallons of soil, promptly fell down and spilled it everywhere Lol, salvaged what I could, mixed some more, and finally I transplanted my big BBK into a 7 gal. air pot!
First off, I lined the bottom of the container with a paper towel, I didn't like how big the holes were in the bottom, my bottom inch of perlite would have just fell out. Then... surprise, I added an inch of perlite to the bottom, for a little more aeration and drainage at the bottom of the pot. Then I added some of my Super-SoilGirl Soil: 1 part homemade compost, 1 part local soil (dug from backyard haha), 1 part vermiculite, 1 part perlite, and about 3 parts of Sunshine Mix #4 Advanced/Organic.
At about halfway full, I grabbed an extra little handful of fresh compost, and just plopped it at the edge of the container now halfway filled with my fresh soil after rolling it around in a little Jamaican Bat Guano (0-10-0), probably about 1-2 tbsp. That is my little "Spike" as TLO-growers might recognize; no I don't know much about TLO growing, but I've picked up a little in the bits I've read from COorganics' threads. The idea is basically to put the organic nute spike in a spot where the roots aren't really established yet to give some time for the microbes of the soil to break it down, then when the roots find the spot it gives a nice boost of nutrition for a while. Then I put in BBK, who was in a 3-4 gal, and added soil around the edges and pressed it down before watering in with its usual flower G.O. Nutes and a little added BioRoot and Mad Farmer's Be One + Silica, and some Microbe Life. Anyways here's BBK, geesh I'm blabbering.:passitleft:

And here's Euphoria, a little bit ticked off at me for breaking her arm >.< sorry... and yeah my pics have glare again today I know >.< can't be helped at the moment..

here's a very windy pic of the 2 med-small Lucy Clones, and in front of them, from left to right, UKH1's, BBK's and UKH2's youngest clones to go outside.

Now a peek in at Big Mama UKH1,
20140823_124320.jpg

20140823_124451.jpg

And Miss Medium-Sized Lucy Clone (henceforth to be known as Mini-Lucy) in her new fancy 10 gallon 'AwesomePot'... I like the pot, its a well made fabric pot good for the roots, and it will be very convenient for LST-ing, but it would be much 'Awesome'-er if it had handles to carry it around by -.-

20140823_124343.jpg

And probably the worst picture of this update >.< sorry to make you look bad medium sized UKH1 clone (now on to be known as Mini-mama) not only was it windy and she was already a bit droopy needing water, but the glare just did a number on this pic lol. She's actually BEAUTIFUL, I bet she will give me some really tasty buds ;)

20140823_124401.jpg

and here's Lucy herself.
20140823_124556.jpg

They were all watered today with the G.O. line nutes, some added Silica and Be One from Mad Farmer here and there, a little (half tsp) Microbe Life added in, and all plants except the smallest babies were spiked with some of that nice 0-10-0 jamaican bat guano. I've been clipping some dying or yellow leaves off as well, mostly on Big Mama and Juicy Lucy. Otherwise, everything's tickety boo here! ;) -Sorry Mr Teddy, I'm picking up on your lingo, spent too much time in that beautiful greek yard!

Thanks for stopping by guys ;) my thoughts are with you all, and our smoke (or vapor! :volcano-smiley:) is always above us. :Namaste:
Oh by the way, I'm seeing my first visible trichomes on my older girls :) Yay! I'll try and get some pics when they're a tad more visible hahah.

Going to start setting up my indoor grow area today! I'm strongly considering moving my 3 smallest outdoor plants, the little new BBK, UKH1 and UKH2 clones, indoors again for a while under a couple small CFL's and my 90w LED for more veg time, then I can put them back out in a few weeks, might make a difference in the oz's range!
First things first, gotta do some light-proofing work, and set up some adjustable light hangers. Might even put up some mylar. I'll update about that later, just smoked outdoors in the middle of my plants.... oh isn't life just amazing?

Looks like everything is doing great keep up the good work

Thank you :)
Just checking in, I finished light proofing and emptying out our previously junk-ridden garage. Yes, it will be a garage grow, a garage which is conveniently air-conditioned with 2 vents lol. So far I had to take moving blankets, and staple them in ALL around the garage door, covering virtually every square inch and then some. Then I had to cover up one big pita window, and one door window. We've been carrying old and dusty forgotten furniture and boxes out for hours >.< I'm gonna have to sweep up this dust for sure before I move any fans or plants in! Alrighty, gonna go move my outdoor plants, and back to work!

:helpsmilie::yikes::thedoubletake: clean the garage??? :laughtwo::laughtwo: That is according to the wife next on the list of get it done things. I have so many treasures.:rofl: You are inspiring me to get on it. Sound like you will have one nice grow room when your finished.

Also your grow is looking very nice and healthy. At the time of perfection, harvest, you will be happy. It's Skunkday so slow down and enjoy. :volcano-smiley::circle-of-love::volcano-smiley:

Hey there soilgirl,
I think I am about to quit layering and spiking my containers altogether. TLO style works well, especially in smaller containers. I found me an easier way (for all natural growing)... I think ha haa ha.

Hahahah thank you Mr Teddy! I'm dying right now. But tomorrow morning will be the real death. But yet, the pain is a satisfied pain. God my back hurts, my knees hurt, my feet really hurt, my wrists hurt, did I say my feet hurt? OW, I fell off a ladder, but it could have been worse...I landed on my feet after all.. Here's the story.

I was getting the mylar space blankets stapled up all over the place, I have way too much mylar so I'm just saying eff it and covering everything. I'd been at it for a long time by then, and my hands were getting tired of squeezing that stupid staple gun. So I used the walls/ceilings for leverage and push against them to help get the dang staple to shoot. Well eventually I was all worn out, Pushed too hard and pushed myself right out of my perch LOL. I landed on my feet, hurt the ball of my left foot though, I screamed like bloody murder for, ~5 seconds and then I took a bong rip Lol.

Anyways I'm going to bed after I get done replying, and I go to bed feeling accomplished today :)
Goodnight Mr. Teddy! :hugs::passitleft: Pass my hug on to Mrs. Teddy!

Hi Bee!! Thanks so much for checking in and commenting :) oh god, cleaning the garage was a nightmare! So much dust and assorted crap everywhere, you'd think we were hoarders! I hope you get the job done though Bee, 'cuz it feels great once its pretty much over :)

I found a couple treasures myself! The rope that's holding up my LED's used to be me and my sister's little multi purpose play rope. We played jump rope with it so much, and climbed and swung on trees with it, made tree forts.. funny the things that are around for so many good things in your life ;) I had to use it.

As for the grow room, oh my gosh, I'm feeling proud right now haha. Exhausted but proud and happy. Totally cleaned/cleaned out, light-proofed, mylar's up all over the place, found a good stud and drilled in a good bike hook to hang my LED's from, and another as an anchor so I can adjust height throughout the grow. I moved the 3 smallest clones to go outdoors back inside underneath my 90w LED in my newly set up room. Will get pics tomorrow.

Hahaha thanks, but skunkday or not, it wasn't a slow down day for me until now :) I hope you're right and thank you so much for the kind words! :Namaste::passitleft::ciao: Goodnight Bee!

I'll be getting all caught up on your new journal soon, thanks for coming by! Oh and right when I feel all fancy with my organic spiking you go and move on to the next thing hahaha. :high-five: Goodnight COorganics!

Hey SoilGirl, sorry I haven't been around for a minute. Your garden is looking awesome for sure. Are you going to use the entire garage for grow? That'll be roomy. Keep it rockin' and "Keep The Green Side Up"

I would spray any plants that you bring inside from outdoors with a pesticide as a preventative.
Oh gosh, I did forget that, doh! Got a bit late and I just grabbed them from outside, brought them in, and was K.O.'ed in bed within minutes. Thank you for speaking up KJC, I'll spray them with some Monterey Garden Insect Spray (Spinosad) and Neem Oil today.

No worries shadow, I know you're busy between your very well written + educational journals and the rest of your life. I understand :) Thank you for the kind words, and no I won't be using the entire garage hahah. I don't even have enough light for that, even if I wanted to. But, I'm using about 2/5ths of our two-car garage for my growing areas and its still quite roomy.

I'll add some pics in later today. I'm putting off starting my indoor journal until I have plants going in here that I intend to stay in here; so far I have my 3 smallest outdoor clones inside (but they'll be going back out in a few weeks after they get a little veg growth on them), then I'll be adding my next 3 clones once they're rooted for a couple weeks to get a little extra veg before putting them back outside too.

I know its late in the season to be keeping them from flowering, but not only do I want my outdoor grow to be a bit perpetual (multiple harvests over time rather than one big harvest) but I know I can keep them inside at night for when it starts to cool off in fall, done it before, And, if absolutely necessary because I delay too long and it just gets too cold period, I can just let them finish their last couple weeks of flower inside.
I think it will increase those 6 clones' yields by far enough to make this all worth it.

Sorry for getting all long winded on you, but I'm sure others will read this too.

Big Pictorial Update: Grow room progress + A closer look at a few of my plants

Well lets get on to the pics I have another busy day ahead of me :)
Today we're going to start with the progress of my indoor grow area. See all these shelves and the blankets behind? Well, there's a garage door behind both lol, a very old crappy garage door at that. It had so many holes and leaks of light that there was nothing for it, had to cover up every inch AND then some. My hand hurts today from using the staple gun so much lol. My Dad and I also moved tons and tons of junk and furniture and I cleaned up the whole grow area just to get to this point.

20140825_093756.jpg

20140825_093811.jpg

Now in this pic, is the area that today I will be light proofing from the other part of the grow area to turn into the veg room, and I'll also be adding mylar. On the left you can see the covered garage door.

20140825_093805.jpg

And here's the main flowering area, I haven't measured yet, but probably something like 6'x11'. Complete with newly added ghetto sink, lots of mylar hanging from the ceiling and cardboard I stapled to the ceiling lol, a bike-hook rope pulley system for my lights, 2 now re-activated air conditioning vents, a couple wall outlets that I left uncovered, and yep.... that's about it so far lol. There's a big oscillating fan that is off still because I don't need it yet with the A/C going.

Right now I have my Sunshine Systems 90w HP GrowUFO hanging above my little BBK, Lucy and Mama clones. I also 'fim'ed the biggest clone, mama. In about 3 weeks I plan on putting them back outside, but by then I want to have them much more vegged out than they are now.

And now its on to the outdoor plant part of the update. I just wanted to take a closer look at three plants in particular, my BBK, Mini Lucy and Mini Mama. Lets start with Mini Mama, since her most recent pic before this was shameful.

So Mini Mama is the only one out of these three, which are all roughly in the same age-size-span, that I'm going to let finish in the pot she's been in for a long time (a 5-6 gal) rather than up-potting her like many growers would suggest. She stayed really compact, didn't stretch, but actually still has some great tops, so I'm comfortable she has enough soil and I don't need to put her in a 10 gal.

After reading other soil grower's journals, reading again and again how its better to over pot than to not have enough and let it possibly hurt your yield, I transplanted both BBK and Mini Lucy into much larger pots (and they're both responding VERY well) but for Mini Mama, I think she looks plenty happy. But hey, I'll let you judge for yourselves, isn't Mini Mama (UKH1 - previously known as mid-sized UKH1 clone) absolutely gorgeous? By the way - my puppy Loki thought he'd get in on the picture action LOL.

Now on to Mini Lucy, who was recently moved to the biggest pot outside, a new 10 gal fabric AwesomePot. She's responding really well to the new soil and pot... I had to super crop (I think that's the term anyways) a branch that suddenly had a monster growth spurt and became completely apex-dominant. These pics aren't my best, sorry, the lighting wasn't ideal and she's not easy to move around.

And finally BBK, who has just had so much increased vigor since her transplant just a couple days ago. She's passing Euphoria in size now - seriously... I can't believe it. Idk whether to attribute it to the new/extra soil, her switch to flower nutes, the ingenuity of the air pot, or what... but I'm amazed :) these air pots are certainly keepers. Oh and my dog (this one's actually mine, if I move out, he goes with me) Gandhi showed up for these pics, so I was trying my best to get him in them and still take good pics. I sorta failed and sorta succeeded, his ADD didn't help either.. :laughtwo: He's part pitbull, part chocolate lab, and part boxer. Our other rottweiler, Big Bear, didn't want to take part in our photo shoots LOL, he doesn't like flashing lights or excitement. He's a big, sweet, fat, lazy, lovable teddy bear. But I'll get him in a canna-photo eventually, you can count on it :rollit::Love::laughtwo:

I'll get high on everyone's lovely pictures here until I can get a harvest in. ;) I know, I say that now...but in 2 weeks... watch out resin........ :cough::trance::laughtwo:

Good job with the grow area  !!

Oh!!! I love the dogs :circle-of-love: and Loki looks nothing like a puppy :laughtwo:!! Though rottweilers get huge. I remember my best friends one literally chewed the fence  Damn bitches in heat :biglaugh:

Your yard is gorgeous!!! :cheertwo:

Now back to work with ya!!!
LOL I'm procrastinating reading other grow journals and smoking whats left of my GSC. Loki's not even a year old, hes only 9 months! But yeah he's huge. You should see Big Bear LOL.

OMG I love rottweilers and big dogs in general hahaha. They can be a handful though for sure. Loki's first day here - a 2 month old puff ball - I was sitting down with my bong, he wobbled/ran in and knocked it over smashing part of it and kissed me all over my face.

Thanks for the kind words DaTz and always being a vigilant subscriber!!

I should get back to work..... boo...
