SOGgy Daze Ahead For Mr. Krip!

HARVEST PICS - AND LOTS OF 'EM!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

After 70 days of 12/12 plus 40 hours of total darkness, it was time to harvest the four oldest SOG girls today.

These, and the next several plants are all shorter than the rest will be moving forward now that I have things dialed in better; and I'll be at a full tent, so in I'll be in less of a rush to move clones into flower. But I have to say I'm extremely happy with the way the SOG is turning out! :thumb:

Here's a couple of quick pre-harvest pics so you can see how the girls really fattened up nicely...

Here's the Power Skunk:

Here they are after an initial trim. They'll get a 2nd trim before going into jars...

First, the Power Skunk:

QUICK BONSAI UPDATE

Now that we've taken those four girls out of the clone chamber and I have them in the dry box, it's about time to take another batch of clones since I have another four plants being harvested in about three weeks.

But, before I started snipping, I wanted to get in a quick bonsai update...

In general, they're all doing fine, but I've definately been getting better at it with experience and reduced pressure on getting the quantities of clones I need for the SOG.

The Pineapple Express and Lucy bonssais were the last ones to give up clones a few weeks ago, so they'll get an opportunity now to really start growing out. They're each only about 10" now.

The Pineapple Express got real heavy LST to help max her colas:

DSCN2014.JPG

The first Lucy got LOTS of toppings to help maximize her colas. There were so many and they were so tightly packed, that I've removed many to allow the ones remaining more light and space to grow:

DSCN2015.JPG

The "ugliest" of the girls right now is the Power Skunk bonsai mom. I took a BUNCH of clones from her a couple of cycles ago and it created some issues. In fact, the next seven clones being harvested are all Power Skunks.

Anyways, I didn't do the greatest job of forming her in the first place, but when I took all those clones, I cut one of her branches a little short. I did leave plenty of green still on the branch, but the couple of bud sites that I didn't remove all wilted and died within a couple of weeks.

So, I was forced to remove the entire branch, which was basically one of the four main colas caused from her UBT as a seedling.

So, now, I've been trying to let her recover and grow back out. She's made a great recovery and I would definately consider her healthy again, just not the prettiest girl on the block.

The couple of colas that have grown out give her a height of about 16". I will be trimming the taller colas today for clones and will probably make one a new Power Skunk bonsai mom even though I expect this one to make a full recovery:

Finally, the most recent Lucy bonsai. Since I didn't start her until the other three bonsais were basically mature and starting to provide the clones I needed, I wasn't forced to take too many clones too soon from her and she's had a chance to really grow out. I have taken 2-3 clones from her, but she's a real tree with multiple colas at a full 16" and still a little young, but definately my best "bonsai work" so far:

HARVEST UPDATE - BUDS JARRED & POWER SKUNK BEING REPLACED

After four days of hanging in the dry box, I gave the four girls a final trim and jarred them today. I'll take final weights after a short cure.

I have decided, though, to definately replace the Power Skunk with either more PE, or another strain, assuming I can find one I like better.

The Power Skunk is great smoke, great smell, covered in trichs, but definately appears to be a low producer.

The PE, for example, was the shortest of the four plants at only 12" tall while the Power Skunk was the tallest of the four at 16" tall. Again, I didn't take weights, but I'd estimate the PE yielded close to twice as much as the PS, even in spite of the height difference!

Plus, I really do love the way that PE smokes!

So, I'm gonna get another PE bonsai in the works and, probably this weekend, I'll start germinating that Big Band freebie seed I still have.

I have read some very good things about Big Band and it sounds like it will be a good producer:

Big Band
Kannabia Seeds

When launching a variety with hopes of super yield, it would be a mistake to overlook the issue of flavour. This was the original idea behind Big Band, which is a cross between a Bubblegum, selected for its predominant flavour and aroma, and a Chronic male (both from the Serious Seeds bank).

The cross had a bubblegum flavour but with an fermented aftertaste and the typical structure of an indica, with a large central bud and sparse branching in the lower parts.

Kannabia used the reversed pollen of this variety to pollinate one of their fruitier Black Domina mothers, obtaining a hybrid with greater branching in the lower parts, with a predominance of indica and fairly rapid flowering.

This hybrid also outperforms its predecessor in terms of both yield and flavour — now definitely one of this variety’s plus points. It tends to stretch out a lot when growing, although without growing to a very great height.

It is precisely this vigorous growth that makes it an ideal variety for selecting a mother. It produces long, healthy cuttings, which, if pruned adequately, will grow by the dozen within a short time of making a cut.

Outdoors the plant is unlikely to grow any taller than 1.80 m, but you should use a support system to prevent the large central bud and heavy side branches from bending too much.

It is a plant that is very easy to grow, since the variety is robust and highly resistant to all kinds of pests.

It produces compact flowers with an excellent calyx-leaf ratio. From the fourth week of flowering the resin is already very abundant and it will end up covering all the buds and surrounding leaves. It forms numerous clusters of flowers that harden when first fed with P-K.

Indoors, excellent results are obtained growing in five-litre plant pots, with coconut and a drain-to-waste drip-watering system. The plants should grow no taller than 60-70 cm for an abundant yield. The flowering cycle ends after 58-61 days.

Outdoors, you should be ready to harvest by the end of September, so avoiding the first rains of autumn.

When smoked, the first few tokes produce a deep, heavy feeling, which is then transformed into a state of relaxation. Ideal when you’re stressed out. The tangy strawberry and lemon flavour sticks to your palate to leaving a strong flavour of fruit gums.

Lots of great pics, nice nugs, and bonsai moms. The joint is rockin' - nicel updates and growing, Mr K!

My moms get UBT style topping, too, and then I train them similarly I think - pull those branches down to open up the middle then let it bush out in the middle some to get a bunch of tops... Probably picked up the idea from you!

Looking' good!

Hey! Brother TOG! Good to see you back, Bro! I'll be there!:high-five:

Where's your new journal? I don't see a link in your sig!

QUICK UPDATE - ATTEMPTING GERMINATION ON BIG BAND

I was thinking again about replacing the Power Skunk. I don't really want to toss her, so I think I'm gonna move her to a one gallon hempy and flower her out in the tent once she grows back a little from the few clones I took on Monday.

I also decided today was as good a day as any to start germinating the Big Band seed, which has been in the fridge in a ziplock bag, sealed inside another ziplock bag with some dessicant.

The seed appeared normal when I put her in the shotglass of water to start germinating, but, when I was checking it out through the shotglass of water, the magnification effect revealed that the outer shell was cracked open ever so slightly, as if it may have starting germinating while it was in the fridge.

This was a bit of a disappointment, since I was looking forward to trying this strain out and I really don't think it's gonna germinate. But, I've been pleasantly surprised before about MJ's resiliancy and desire to live, so I'm giving her a fair "shot" (no pun intended! :)) and leave her in the shotglass for a couple of days to see if we can get a taproot.

I'll update when I have more info!

Happy Harvests!
