SOGgy Daze Ahead For Mr. Krip!

Hello....Mr. Krip ! :high-five:

Looking great from any angle.........personally, I'm in love with the Lucy mom.

This is your calling I do believe....sog. :circle-of-love:

Thank you, my friend! :thanks:

I agree...I'm lovin' the Lucy mom, too! In fact, I started a 2nd Lucy mom with that rooted clone. The buds from the one Lucy in flower look really nice, too, but she's only been in flower for 3 weeks, so they've still got quite a way to go.

I am enjoying the SOG, and will be really happy when I can get into a solid routine of harvesting something like 12 oz. every 70 days, or so! :woohoo:

It's a routine I won't need to keep up long to have a good supply of personal meds!

But, truth-be-told, I'd rather have the space, lights and freedom to grow larger plants. The SOG is just ideal in my situation (small space & LED's) and I'm definately getting it dialed in quick! :)

QUICK UPDATE - 2ND DEFOLIATION ON FIRST SEVEN SOG PLANTS

It's day #45 of 12/12 on the first seven SOG plants, so it was time to do the defoliation. The buds are really getting fat and starting to put on some weight, now, and as usual, the PE's aren't letting me down as far as smell and appearance! :yummy:

With those PE's just covered in trichs, and the Power Skunk showing it's got plenty of it's own, this defoliation resulted in, what will be, something like another 1/2 oz. dried, of sugar leaves for hash/medibles. :woohoo:

Here's a shot of the seven that just got defoliated:

A couple of PE colas:

They were looking so good, I figured I'd take one of the PE's and the PS out for a couple of shots, but still not great lighting...

Here's one of the PE's:

And, here's the Power Skunk:

In four more days, I'll stop using the Big Bud on these first seven and start using OverDrive while lowering PPM's for two weeks, then a one week flush and planned harvest on 12/17.

So, there's still a lot of time for these girls to pack on a lot more weight! :MoreNutes:

The Power Skunk, I've heard, can finish in as little as 7 weeks, so she may be done a little earlier than the PE's and we'll be keeping an eye out for that as we get closer to harvest date. She definately has a higher ratio of red pistils than the PE's do currently.

Happy Harvests!

Hey mr. K! Finally got a chance to catch up. You know i was reading about your bonsai mom and clone period predicament and, although this may not be the thing for you, i always like to add my 2 cents. First off im just curious about the height of your mother/clone tent. If its tall enough my personal suggestion would be to take your waterfarms and use those to grow out your mothers. After 3 clonings just toss the mom and throw in a fresh mom. You say youre running 3 strains from 6 bonsais but in the same space you can use 3 waterfarms. You will get many more clones that way and bigger as well. Of 2 waterfarm mothers i have, ive cut 36 clones in 5 weeks in a 2x2 space, just to give you some numbers to compare. Of coarse im not saying my way is the best. But if you hace enough vertical space, it will definitely keep you well supplied with thicker-stemmed clones...

But youre SOG is lookin SOGOOD... Like KFC haha

O and i just thought of another idea: double bonsai waterfarms lol. You could even put 2 lones in each waterfarm and have faster growing bonsais. Something i might just try now that it comes to mind.

Hi Mr.K,

Wow, you are really rockin' this grow. Certainly took 420fied style and a bonsai thread and...WOW...OOooo...AAhhh. What more can be said? They really look gooey good.

:Namaste:

Thanks, Beans! Those are great suggestions, and actually, something I have already considered.

In my space, I can really only fit two waterfarms and, while I agree I'll get more/bigger clones (not thicker, though...those bonsais get thick!) and, a much faster growth rate, I won't be able to maintain the same number of strains or redundancy as I can with the Bonsais.

And, all my research tells me I should easily be able to feed the SOG with two MATURE bonsais, so, with the six I'm planning on starting with, I should have more than enough and, if I lose a plant for some reason, I still won't lose the strain.

In retrospect, I probably should have put a couple of full-size plants in with the first dozen SOG plants to fill the tent until my moms grew out. And, it definately would have been better to start with "ready" mom's!

But, like they say, "hindsight is 20/20" and I should still yield enough with this first round that I won't run out before I harvest the next round, which is the first goal.

I figure by the first of the year, I should be on a steady pace. And, I'm estimating harvesting about 2 oz. in mid-December, and another 2 oz. in the first week in January.

So, I should be fine for meds until we can get on track with the bonsais.

Since I truly appreciate your $0.02, I'll add a couple of my own...

Although there's nothing "wrong" with it, I personally don't like to put more than one plant in a container, and if I did, I would probably want them the same strain and age.

Having the same strain/age will let me keep them on one nute schedule without having to worry about overfeeding/underfeeding one. And, having them in seperate containers will not only let me vary the nutes, but if one of the plants is sick, it's easier to treat and less likely to spread to the other plant(s), or if I have to remove a plant it's actually possible without ripping apart intertwined roots.

All that being said, if I can't get to a stable point with the bonsais, I'll almost definately drag out at least one, if not both of the waterfarms, and start growing some bigger moms. I'll still maintain bonsais, if possible, to keep multiple strains going, then just put a clone in the waterfarm to grow out a "temporary" mom to feed the SOG, then replace the mom in the waterfarm with a different strain for the next SOG run.

Jesus! I can't make it to the party for like a few days and I already have to read a novel to catch up. Everything is like great on your end. Hopefully I can settle things soon cause I have been way too busy.

It's all good, Bro! I'm going as slow as I can for you! :)

I'm just happy you keep coming back! :high-five:

There you go again Mr. Krip ! :high-five:

Now, I have to get some Power Skunk ! That girl looks deadly......bet the smoke will be awesome. :thumb:

Thanks, Brother! :high-five:

I agree, the Power Skunk is really looking fantasic! :yummy:

I wasn't in any rush to grow this strain, simply because it was a freebie seed and I had my eyes on the Lucy and Pineapple Express as the two strains I wanted to maintain originally.

But, I had heard some really good things about the plant from another grower who got it as a freebie (I think it was Mr. Smith, but I may be wrong!) and, once I saw her in flower, I was very impressed.

Here's what the breeder says:

The Top 10 varieties of superclassics are represented by this variety, which has given its name to the marijuana plant in many countries. The name Skunk refers to the extremely strong smell that it gives off (both when flowering and when smoked). A classic plant that was originally created in Holland and is now probably the best-known of all marihuana varieties. It was the first sinsemilla variety, and also the first stabilised hybrid developed for indoor growing.

Skunk # 1 originated in California's Bay Area in the 1970s. The original Skunk hybrids were a cross between 25% Afghan, 25% Acapulco Gold and 50% Colombian Gold. After countless generations of intensive selection and re-crossing, the best Skunk plants were stabilised into the first genetically pure indica-sativa hybrid: Skunk #1. Owing to the strength of this Cannabis variety, "skunk" is often used to refer to any kind of strong marihuana. Skunk # 1 is considered as a benchmark for a reliable, uniform performance, and its genotype has had a huge influence on many modern hybrids.

To stabilise it and acclimatise it to our local conditions, we crossed this Skunk plant with our own Black Domina – a plant that gives it a higher yield and stabilises the end of the flowering cycle at eight weeks. Although this is the fastest variety we have yet done, some very indica-rich phenotypes may even finish and ripen fully in only seven weeks. This plant's background is really quite special. The most indica part can be seen in the density of buds and the fat, broad, dark-green leaves. Its growth while flowering is self-evident after only a few days.

This stage is when the vigour of the hybrid really comes into its own. Excellent results with drain-to-waste drip-watering systems. Fat, compact buds with a large number of trichomes.

Even though it's a short plant, it's very tall for a Skunk, although outdoors it may tend to grow "bushy" and occupy many square metres. By planting later (mid-to-late April) the results will be shorter in height but with an equally good yield. It has large pistils that form gorgeous calyxes filled with trichomes and forming large buds.

A very high-yield plant both indoors and outdoors, reaching up to 350 grams per plant or 450 grams per square metre indoors.

It conserves the typical Skunk flavour with shades of tangy fruit. A plant that combines super-high yield with ease of growth, even for non-experts.

And, here's a video on the strain, also from the breeder:

I'll be sure to do a thorough smoke report on her once she's harvested and cured! :MoreNutes:

:Namaste:

Thanks much, Sqwheels! :thanks:

I'm definately making my share of errors in changing to this SOG style of grow, or I'd probably have a full tent by now of much taller plants, but, the plants that are in there sure are looking good to me, too! :)

And, you got it, Girl! :high-five:

420fied's journals and the threads on keeping Bonsai moms and the Sultan Method have all had a HUGE impact on my grow style! :thumb:

Are the roots visible through the plastic bottle? Looks great

Hi, LeafLady! :welcome:

No, I've painted the bottoms of the 2L bottles with black plastic spray paint so block out the light.

HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!!

Wishing everyone here a Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you all have a LOT to be thankful for, and included in my list, I'll be giving thanks both for cannabis and :420: today! :bong:

Also, sending a special "well wishes" and "congrats" to our friend GT who became a father yesterday! If you haven't been by, you should visit his journal, see his beautiful new baby, and extend your congrats.

Way-to-go, GT! :welldone:

Best to everyone for a great holiday!

GETTING OLD

So many of my good friends here have been having health issues due to getting older, I didn't know who's journal I should post this on! :)

But, for all my good friends over the age of 50 (you know who you are!), I hope you enjoy!
