Planning on harvesting her this weekend. There’s a few buds at the very bottom
Of the stems with white pistils but I’m probably gonna just end up clipping those

10 day'S after transplanting the reveg girl into my first SIP ,
After the first day the soil soaked up enough water , i emptyed the reservoir , that little plant can't transpire much water , i top watered a bit after these photos , will full reservoir once root bound , also doing a quadline

12 hours under lights , all tips turned up wards

The filler pipe has also been shortened , i find the two bucket system practical as u can check on the root & water quality 🤙✌️

I use the old "drain pipes at the bottom of a tote" design. Works really well and has a large reservoir.
The 27 gallon version with 3 pipes has a 4 gallon fuel cell, plenty to leave it alone for a week at a time, even in bloom.
I've filled it to the brim before an 8 day vacation, and come back to a happy plant, no worries about the nutrient juices going stale.
Just in case anyone thought that design was too rudimentary to be excellent, it's the bee's knees.

That looks awesome!
Very simple.
Where do you cut the overflow hole?

I just poked a hole thru the side of the tote and into the upper area of the middle tube, then stuck a piece of fuel line in it. The rubber line seals the drill hole up and leaves about an inch of headspace inside the tubes.

Excellent!
I may have to try that setup. Last year I grew in a 5 gallon bucket sip and the res was too small. Plants got huge (I grow outdoors) and ended up needing to water twice per day. Your setup looks to resolve that issue and I may get away with watering every few days.

I recommend a furniture dolly under it to help move it around, it'll weigh 100# when it's full of fuel. Also I drill holes all around the outside lip, to run garden wire thru for lst. It's been a great setup. Here are my current girls, happy in their homes. One in a 27 gallon, and one in a 13 gallon.

Yeah I would need a furniture dolly for sure. I tend to move my plants around over the summer. Can be hotter than hades one day and rain the next so I move them under the patio if needed.

So for sipping outside with a photo it would be better to have a bigger than 5 gal. bucket ?
Are you stacking 2 buckets or just putting a res inside a 5-gallon?

With a photo outside you might be filling the res at least 2x/day if you're squeezing it all into a 5 gallon (depending on how big it gets obv).

Still I think the most important thing is to make sure your pot is protected from the sun to keep the res cooler. An air gap between an outside bucket and the plant bucket would be best to keep the radiant heat off the res.

So for sipping outside with a photo it would be better to have a bigger than 5 gal. bucket ? I grew a Auto in a 5 gal. and it was alright ,didn't get big but there was some issues with it starting in another pot at the time .

Go big or go home!
You don't want to keep re-filling the reservoir, it defeats the purpose of a SIP.
Get a big container so you can...(in Ron Popeil voice) "Set it and Forget it!"

That probably depends on how long you're going to veg for. Anything longer than say four weeks and, yes, you'll probably want to to go with one of the storage container options, 17 gallons and up.

I make a tall SIP using two 20ltr buckets and I've gotten my photo strains pretty big so far

And he's a big dog as you can see ,he's kinda dwarfed by the plant 🙂

Well looks pretty damn good! I especially like the cork “bobber” and the bucket lid used to hold the fill tube in place. Nice work!

I got rid of the cork bobber as you put it , I found the wooden skewer was getting mould on the side of it in the pipe . So I was a bit paranoid of it getting to the plant . And it turns out its not necessary outdoors as I feed them 2 times a day to keep up with their growth.
