I think i over defol’d myself probably wouldve yielded more than my 14+ oz
That happened to me a lot the first few years of learning to watch the plant, and let it tell me where I need to give it attention. I rarely defol, except suckers during flowering, and I try to leave the Fans always. Its a journey for sure, I love it :D
This is my SIP 😊

GOOD STUFF I love that setup, I might engineer something similar on my other property, where I get a lot of foot traffic. People tend to steal them in the past.

Thankyou.
Go for it and good luck that's half the reason mine is up there out of site 😊

This might be a silly question , i'm unsure when to refill the resivoir , i understand to have a 1" / 25cm air gap but how low do u let the water level go before toping up , i grow in soil / potting mix & water from the top when the leaves start to drop somewhat , though i guess thats taking it to far with SIP system, 🤔
About a month into the grow I top off the reservoir once a day and every third or fourth day water from the top..

Cheers

thats what i do i feel they want that, many say let the top dry out and feed from base only, but i feel they need that top few inch of soil, for there whole cec etc when i let it dry out and suck bottom only i get deficencys, but when i dont feed the base they dry out too fast , so i do both stil

Is your top bare soil? as well I keep mine covered with thick layer pebbles to not have direct air and light exposure which keeps the top a bit more moist, I've seen others cover sips with plastic.. I've grown without cover as well and I did top water that time... now I was planning to just go by reservoir again as top watering brings a whole lot of muck into the reservoir and in between the the pebbles as I do use an intermedium to feed the soil... it's reservoir- pebbles- soil -pebbles.

I have tall 5 gallon buckets with large reservoirs so I've been topping up every 3-5 days depending on water usage trying to get more root growth in the bottoms. I also top feed intermittently depending on topsoil moisture because of the tall buckets.
That's just what I've been doing lately, there seems to be no real wrong way of doing it in a SIP, as long as the plants have water they will grow.

That stuff works pretty good as a preventative, I keep a dunk in my main water bucket, but it wasn't real enough to help when I had an infestation. I don't top water anymore because of that season, it was a nightmare, it was tough to win a war against F-gnats once they were established.

They are definitely little bastards i put a layer of sand and stopped top watering aswell and would spend 10min vacuuming them up as they flew around eventually got on top of them

This is next to my out door SIP but hasn’t made it onto the plants yet.

Also good for existing infestations.

Be careful with DE, it's often high in heavy metals. It's been a problem in the states where they test for it and the culprit were DE on most of the grows. Just a heads up!

Cheers!
