Is there a way to make a low-cost non-rotting version of this?

That's the way I built my larger tubs for my outdoor garden. I used 17 gall tubs like ResDog uses, but you could use a water resistant wood or even line the wooden box with something like a 6 mil plastic sheet. They sell them in the states as drop cloths for painters but that would work fine.

I'd like to invite @indochronic to your page. He has mentioned that he is looking to get his cannabis growing game right after 8 years and I feel as if all of the advice here will help him reach his goal

BTW Look up SIPs on Google Search and you find Azi's thread. Great stuff....

My feeder legs/arms whatever you want to call them extend the length of the two inches of the air gap and I see no problems

My girls just got fed today so I'll check back in one week again when I flip them to 12 next Friday. Don't mind them looking disheveled since I was all up in here just before feeding.

We'll be happy to have him!

Well, that's kinda cool. Or maybe we're just the most recent. :laughtwo:

I know!!!!

No! It's actually it's an SEO thing. Tagging the right things and Google catching all these key phrases! This thread keeps up what it's doing and we will have this thread up at the top of the search engine! I'm telling you, I've looked at other SIP threads that I saw on there and nothing compares to the amount of useful information presented right here

I want to use my press now for big things, namely capsules. I'd love a link or links to making some. @InTheShed?
WH does a lot of that so keep an eye out for his post! In the meantime, @Grandpa Tokin did a tutorial on the squish part here:

And then you can see him go from rosin to capsules here.

As soon as I get grasshoppers tops cured enough, maybe next weekend I’ll show from squishing to the final capsule.

Thank you so much and absolutely looking out for West's of course. I need to start dabbling in the press and why not start off right?!

You may have answered and I will keep studying here for this but….

My question is how much space for the air gap between drain hole and the bottom of soil? Can it be more space or is that detrimental since roots have further gap to jump??

Help my brain out here please folks!!!
I bore 'drain / vent' holes all around the pot, about every 2.5 - 3 in at more or less the height of the tank. As the tank empties, air is drawn in and supports the gap (vent holes in the top of the tank seemed like a good idea, still do)
Tankless SIP (Cheapest yet! ) I'm using a catch pan w/ lip height of about 2 in, so 'vents' went into the side about 3 " up - and that's what's feeding The Monster... (couple posts up)
Point being, this is WORTHY method, MUCH less 'fussey' (my understanding) than hydro, and bloody amazing results!

Day 20

They upped their water intake to 3/4 gal a day overnight. It was taking about 4 days for them to empty the 1 gallon res before. The fans on these things are giant. With their increased uptake I'm expecting an explosion, not that they're small by any means for 20 days.

Nice! :thumb: Do you plan on any thinning of some of that lower stuff?

Yeah, I'll clean up the bottoms usually around the same time I top (3 days after I see them declare sex). It will definitely make them easier to fill when I do that.

Hey dog! I hope you and your garden green get well. 🙏
His designs look great, but... untreated wood for a planter box????

Or are those big totes really where it is at (and I have to see what I can find in plastic, that is similar)?
That is a decent mid-grade enviro-friendly wood treatment type we see up here, Canada-way. Decent enough to sit up on a 6ft high, raised BBQ balcony in Ontario, where it will only be seeing duty May-October. It's a 12-footer I think, looks like. Perfect for the four-plant maximum. Likely would need a materials upgrade for a tropical rainforest (or a temperate one), but greenhouse work anywhere ought to be fine for years.

Public Service Announcement
Speaking of legal plant limits... we have a federal program here whereby approved medical user applicants receive generous bumps in max plant numbers. We've had medical cannabis here now for a long time, and in many different legal frameworks, but most people seem to agree that this is the most straightforward process yet.

I recommend any Canadian who grows weed, or wants to, and subsequently has a bum knee, or other recurring issues to investigate the ACMP program here. If your personal doctor isn't down wit dee 'erb, the private sector is ready with some relatively affordable options that include a doctor's sign-off and they take care of the application paperwork on your behalf. All is done but for the waiting, after a scheduled 20 minute phone call, friends have told me. I did my own application but it was very simple.

It is not so rare to be approved for more than 20 plants. Every submitted ACMP grower application I know of, but one, was approved, and all of them were over 10 plants. Handily, when approved you can also apply to be a licensed grower to one other approved medical cannabis user, and pick up their plant max.

Lastly, historical cannabis-related charges were an issue in past medical programs. However, this new scheme overlooks summary cannabis possession charges. I always urge people to take out some government bureaucracy for a spin before they reflexively ditch it and never look back.

We now return you to regularly scheduled programming...

Farside, did you mention a flip target? Also, have you made any interventions on those beautiful plants? Sorry but I'm too wasted right now to go check your last few updates, I will for sure get lost. I know this because I can't even open a soda right now. Soo, I'm here with a glass of water until this butter starts to wear off :thedoubletake:- fyi.

omg.... just a warning, but if you have poor impulse control maybe check out this site with a buddy..

They are Purple Sunset Autos on the right and an OGesus Auto on the left, so they'll flower when they flower. So far I've just let them go Au Natural. I'll top around 3 days after they declare sex, clean up the bottoms, and do some training from there.

(left side) These two 7gal planter, w/ 8 gal reservoir SIPs are turning around these mature gg#4s I stuffed into them to test the system with plants in.

Each was rootbound in a 2 gallon pot and had a month to live, max. 3 weeks later biomass is way up and only the colour seems off.… Calmag? Really though, they are two thumbs up so far.

This is my tent with only the far red and uv lights on, too late for Halloween or Guy Fawkes but I'm feeling it nonetheless. Very alien. Plants are actually proper green.... or are they?

Yes, they're real SIPs, with 2 inch airgap and lots of airflow. A 4" dia. perforated pipe full of perlite/vermiculite joins them. Just like my tubs. These are my Faux-ctopots.

Look, if Octopots wants to send me their hardware on test, I'll run it. Until then, Faux-ctopots it is!

I do mine like a week before flip. With the tent this packed, I have to lollipop more than usual and force all the energy up top to ensure adequate light penetration and to make the very most out of this grow. Happy to see your grows are also knocking it out of the park! So happy you are happy with these SIPS!

Good thing that tall one in the back isn't a male. She has a mile high view of the whole grow! 🔎
Good Lord. Don't even start me on hermied autos. That happened once last early Winter, I sat in my tent and cried. I don't know if you remember, it's when I had Gigi and the Amazon grow going and I was so worried they were gonna hermie my photoperiods but thank God, they were still in super early preflower and didn't get hit....I'm not joking about crying in my tent, I pulled them out, put bags on them, cleaned everything like a mad woman, then fell to the floor of the 4 x 4 and played a martyr. I said this was it, I was never growing again!
