Shottafire's Manic Organic 2kw Perpetual With Supersoil & Teas

I have been cleaning the rooms and the plants up in veg and flower. The rooms were dirty and I always feel better after a good cleaning in the rooms. The plants even seem to respond to it being cleaner. Veg plants are very happy now and are on the right track.

Yesterday in flower the early flowering plants all got a top dressing of a dry mix of amendments scratched in to the top of the soil.
I normally dont do top dressings but I am starting to play with the ratios of amendments and learning what does what.

I love the forgivingness of organics. Lots of tinkering and adjusting things to tweak it just right for that organic edge. I can tell a nug from organic and hydro now and I must admit Organic is the bidness

Could I ask a weird question about soils? I was just wondering if it would be possible or even worth trying to use a time release layering system in an all organic mix. Kind of like a Russian doll design with paper pots of decreasing size all inside one another layered with different soil mix for different stages of root growth through the plants cycle?
Hope you get what i mean lol just a wacky idea Ive been mulling over whilst high as hell!

I would not doubt it and there is some guys practicing this layering technique. I am going to get into that im sure but right now steady as she goes. not trying to do too much. so far so good with my recycled mix.

Wow Shottafire ! Those are some beauties. I hope my plants get that nice even though I believe your growing a Indica and I am pretty sure the strain I have is Sativa. At any rate your girls are looking F I N E. :bravo:

hey brah, was wondering if you have ever used ANs Nirvana? they say it's like liquid karma but better, since I'm new to this and you used karma I figured I would see if you had an opinion on the nirvana.

Yeah I have never used it but if it is similar to LK than it should not be a problem. My only thing is the microbes and I just use what has worked for me. I will take a look at the nirvana in a few minutes.

cool, I'm just getting my ducks in a row. next week my rock powders come and I can start mixing and cooking new soil. I still have to read if I should use just cold pressed squid or liquid karma or both, I don't want to get 2 items that are the same and waste money.

WOW and WOW Shottafire. Amazing stuff and thanks for subbing to my for reals simple grow. Some of the stuff your doing makes it seem like a lot of stuff to do but I get it and like anything that is fun its never hard.

DocBud has used this method, by putting extra EWC and Bat Buano at the bottom layer of pots. You need to check out his journals if you haven't already :)

That is pretty amazing that you can tell the difference between hydro and orgainc grown just by looking at a nug. I would love to hear a rant about that some time, and about the specifics on the amendments you added as a top dressing too! I am glad to hear the veg girls are looking happy. It does always feel so good to get things clean. I feel like when everything is in order, my mind is too.
:Namaste:

I like the sound of the nirvana and it looks like it would work with a supersoil... I am always hesitant to try a new product, but that looks like something I would try. There is a lot of LK vs Nirvana threads on various forums.

I tend to get carried away but it is really not that big of a deal. The teas can be a pain sometimes but they have been a good addition to my program. Your grow looks great and you have a good friend and he set you up right. Or if it was all you man i am impressed.

Looking forward to the logs you produce.

dam i missed it sorry shottafire!!!!!!
No man your in time for the ceremony it starts next week. Glad to have you around.

Yes Docbud has done this as well and it is something I am going to go back and look at exactly what he was doing. I have been reading a lot about TLO style and it is pretty cool stuff. Not as cool as doc's Kit but I am learning a lot about soil biology and microlife so I feel everything i do is for a reason. I am going to start a high brix journal separate from my current journal and that will be starting the first week of november or so maybe the second. But it is coming soon.

I will post some of the dry mixes I have been making for teas and top dressings. and whatever else I can think of tomorrow hopefully.

so irie right now.

My comment was directed at Light Addict, just to clarify. I hope that is okay. I would certainly not presume to educate you! I only intended to share that tidbit. TLO, I will have to check that out. I feel at this point I really want to understand all the elements from water, to chemistry, to microbes, to CEC. I feel like I am at the tip of the iceburg learning the how's, but I want to know why too :) I think that is what makes growing so fun, it is like an adventure learning all the time. That is one of the things I am enjoying about your videos, you give an honest assessment of what you are doing and why.

Good fine morn to you buddy, may your frosty selection of white warriors all jump to attention for you!
My Russian doll soil layering idea was just me thinking aloud, didn't know if it was a thing or not. You could even impregnate the paper pots (dividing material between layers with something beneficial)
It seemed like it would be a good kit for someone like Scientific soils to produce. Prepacked layers to fit inside one another etc.
As said I dont know a thing about all of this, just me shooting the breeze!

I am here:peace:

Glad to have you here sara. Thank you for working with jon on the lights, I am intending to go led n the near future and I hope to do business with your company soon.

Its your innovative thinking that will keep you on the path to enlightenment. Thank you for thinking out loud its always welcome here.
And top of the morning to ya as well LA. May it be a fine one.

This comment is sort of addressing the 7 or so posts directly above.....

We're trying to produce flowers that:

1. do fantastic things to our consciousness
2. taste great
3. are perfectly healthy to consume in every way

Being a chemist (I'm not) or someone with advanced training in soil agronomy, ornamental horticulture, crop science and soil science is all well and good, and we need people like this on our team.....

But what we really do is more like being a chef than a chemist. A scientist might tell you why something tastes so good, but they could never tell you on paper HOW to make something taste good. That's what a chef does. A chef is a practical chemist.....while a chemist might not even be able to cook.

So, what I'm trying to say is that growing great weed is like being a great chef, not like being a pHD in soil science. We want those people on our team, but we need not have the level of knowledge they have....we do need them to find out certain things for us....but in the end it's personal creativity coupled with hard science that wins the day.

For example: A chemist understands how heat de-natures protein by breaking polypeptide bonds.....In contrast, a chef knows how to make fantastic omelets. The chemistry is the same....but one applies it with style and panache, while the other merely defines it.

So, what am I trying to say?

Learn about the soil and the microbes and how they work in principle. Upon learning the basic principles, start acting like a chef....mixing this, trying that....all the while sticking to principles that are proven.

Now, let's talk about layers of soil:

1. Everything leaches out of the pot at varying rates.
2. roots grow down, out, in and around.....

So, should these "layers" be oriented vertically for roots to grow out, or should they be horizontally stacked like plates for the roots to grow down?

How can we stop one layer from mixing with the layer below?

My scientific side knows that we can have 2 distinct layers.....a top layer and a bottom layer and the top layer always mixes with the bottom, but rarely the other way around, unless you bottom feed and rely on wicking action, but even that will not take what's on the bottom layer and switch it to the top.

So, if you want layers, you get to choose 2. That's the chemist/soil scientist talking and he's right.

The chef/grower understands all of the above and experiments with little things here and there in order to:

......produce flowers that:

1. do fantastic things to our consciousness
2. taste great
3. are perfectly healthy to consume in every way

Violate the science and you have problems....period. But the science of growing has many ingredients to choose from....and it's the chef/grower's job to mix, match, tweak and try different things that scientifically sound in order to get the best results.

Weed growers are great chefs.....but many are ignorant of science. Egghead academics are often great scientists.....but lack the panache and style to do special things with their produce.

So.....I employ a lab to keep me on the straight and narrow with regard to science.....but when it comes to growing, I function as a chef, not a scientist.

Dang....I wrote this with 4 interruptions, I hope it makes sense.
