ShiggityFlip Starts The Hunger Games - Huckleberry Kush - Agent Orange & Mad Hatter

Re: ShiggityFlip Starts The Hunger Games - Huckleberry Kush - Agent Orange & Mad Hatt

Yeah Shiggity the Malawi produces very dense buds, nice bag appeal for sure. I've never really understood the whole bag appeal thing. They all look the same ground up lol. I'm not growing for dispensaries at this time but I find no indication of how good a strain is by it's appearance. That Coffee Gold I grew was the ugliest buds structure wise but is some very special smoke. If you like Indicas but want to try some pure sativas, the coffee is a good choice. It is a landrace that has a very calming effect. It stops anxiety immediately. It makes the body buzz all over and mentally it takes you to a very nice place. I got to admit when I saw the buds as all foxtails, I thought about killing it. I am sooooo glad I didn't!

Theres an OLD saying..."you cant tell a bud by its cover "

Re: ShiggityFlip Starts The Hunger Games - Huckleberry Kush - Agent Orange & Mad Hatt

Tead, yeah you know me. I am a fancy man with fancy needs lol. I plan on getting some landrace sativas and going scrog style with them but I have to try scrog first. Going to do the tomato cage with scrog on top. I like low tidy plants. The Agent Orange even bugs me with her stretch. She may be a good scrog candidate to learn. Once I get through this summer I will probably run some ace Purple Malawi.

I hope you do decide to experiment scrog on the Agent Orange.

Re: ShiggityFlip Starts The Hunger Games - Huckleberry Kush - Agent Orange & Mad Hatt

That is my fear Rifleman, though the results some seem to get is amazing, rtk and jbiz seem to be hitting it out of the park first try. And Ottowa green consistently rocks.

Thanks Shiggs but I have made a number of mistakes with my scrog BUT she's going to produce real well and hopefully smoke even better. I can't wait to take what I learned with the CR and get another photo going.

Your garden is looking fantastic as always man! :adore::tokin:

Re: ShiggityFlip Starts The Hunger Games - Huckleberry Kush - Agent Orange & Mad Hatt

Someone was chatting with me about the clone game today and I figured I would post the recipe for success that I use to get 95%+ from my aerocloner. Some people may disagree with some of the methods used but I am unwilling to part with them. Time after time they have led to success. So if your clone game is good, then skip this post. If your clone game needs work then read on!

I use the aerocloner 60. It is an emitter based cloner that uses 360 degree spray systems in a plastic manifold fed by a big water pump. Simple and effective.

1. After a cloning session I break the cloner down. I take a large 30 gallon beer cooler and fill it with extremely hot water. I put my pump and manifold in there with the emitters taken out. It fits in nicely spraying sideways. I pour 1/2 cup bleach into that water and run it overnight. My little foam inserts go in there too, after I rub them clean in some sink water to get rid of any debris. Then I set them on top of the water in the beer cooler which is filled to the top. I massage in the bleach water into the inserts and make sure that they get uniformly saturated. I close the cooler as far as it will go without crimping the pump wire and let it go overnight. Every so often I will massage the inserts again. I used to use oxyclean but now just stick with bleach. Just before reassembly I turn off the pump in the cooler. I spray the insides out of the cloner with bleach water and sit them in the bathtub to drain. I will spray them at least two times. I do not rinse them out.

2. I take the inserts and soak them overnight in a glass with water and a capful of bleach. In the morning I go through with a paper clip and get any remaining debris out.

3. I clean my cloning only fiskars with rubbing alcohol and get ready to clone.

4. I fill up some solo cups with water and a few drops of bleach. One cup is the cutting cup and the others are labeled with the strain names.

5. I prefer to take side branches but will also clone tops. Tops that root make very vigorous plants.

6. I will take a section of plant and cut off all the side branches leaving one set of fans and the growing top. I didnt used to cut the fans in half but tried it this last time and liked it. So each finger of the fans gets cut in half to reduce photosynthetic area and transpirational loss of water.

7. I take the trimmed clone and immerse it in the cutting cup. 1/2" below the bottom node I cut the stem at a 45 degree angle. We are looking for a top with 4" or so of stem, with the cloning inserts the stems should protrude 1-2" into the cloning machine. I move these cuttings into the cup with their label and let them sit there. If you want to use rooting compound buy some IBA from a big box store in the gardening section. 1 quart is like 10 bucks. I don't bother. Just pure tap water with bleach for me.

7. I take all my cuttings and set them into their labeled cups. When I am ready I assemble the cloner. I do not rinse the pump out I just make sure it is nice and drained. I do rinse the inserts off with tap water. I then assemble the whole cloner and fill with 10 gallons of water and 0.5ml/gallon bleach.

8. I use cheap airstones in my cloner. these get bleached with everything else and then put in during reassembly. After a couple of sessions I get new ones. they are impossible to truly clean. I hang the air pump up in the air so that dirt and things do not get inside the air pump. I will wrap a paper towel around the air pump to help prevent nasties from getting sucked in and sent to the resevoir. I think I will switch to coffee filters. The air pump is not there to oxygenate the water, the sprayers will do that. It just infuses oxygen rich air into the cloner itself. Stagnant air that is never replaced is a recipe for disaster. I have noticed a big difference when I use an airstone and when I have not.

9. Once the cloner is reassembled I lay a strip of duct tape on the side of the cloner. That way I can easily label whats in there from farthest to nearest the tape. for example I would write:

2 Pineapple fields#2
1 Huck Kush #3
3 Tutanhamon#1

This means the two farthest holes have Pineapple fields 2, the middle hole has HK#3 and the 3 holes closest the tape have tut#1. A simple system that works great for me! I used to label on top but switched to the side and like it much better. I also take clones every time new plants go into flower and other times as well when I dont really need them. You never know when you will have a catastrophe and need new clones! Plan for failures and reap the rewards.

10. I used to use light at the border of my veg, but find that the clones like a shop light the best. Nice dim fluorescent.

11. I use 1/5th strength flowering nutrient. The phosphorus and potassium encourage good roots. The lack of nitrogen helps them to not grow while they have no roots.

12. Every two days I add 0.5ml bleach per gallon in the resevoir to replace the bleach that has evaporated.

And thats it. I get consistently over 90% and often 100%. Though I clone 60 and usually just keep the first 2/3 of any strain I clone. I don't have time to baby the stragglers. I overclone and cull the weak. I have read where people dont bother to cut the clone under water, they often say the roots don't grow out the end anyway. For me though, they do! I get tons of roots out the bottom of the clone. You can see that right below in these pics. The lower rooting pic in the cloner shows the rapid rooters and the one above it is the same cloner a few days later. The last two pics are Pineapple fields tops from the community grow. I NEVER take clones this big but did it for fun. I am lucky Pineapple fields is such a good rooter! Look at those thick roots!

Shiggity,
Now this is a clone tutorial for yo ass. Thx bro!:Namaste::high-five:
Sticky worthy indeed.

Re: ShiggityFlip Starts The Hunger Games - Huckleberry Kush - Agent Orange & Mad Hatt

Hey Shiggity, Great cloning method. I have never seen it done that way before. You don't use any rooting hormone or anything besides bleach and flowering nutrient? Amazing. When do you add your flowering nutrient to the reservoir? Thanks

Flowering nutes go in on day one. I will tell you though that I keep some just for this purpose and make sure I am very careful about not getting them dirty. A lot of people use cloning gel or powder and they let it get dirty. Then all the gel is doing is adding bacteria and mold! If you use cloning gel or liquid I would put it dissolved in the cutting cup, that way when you cut the clone under water a little will suck up into the stem. But I have found it to be unnecessary.

Re: ShiggityFlip Starts The Hunger Games - Huckleberry Kush - Agent Orange & Mad Hatt

I think I need professional help. My name is Shiggity and I am a hoarder. If you look under the HPS, the twisters are on the left and the two tuts and THC bomb are on the right. In the middle of the HPS area are the three pineapple fields girls. There are also some HK11s thrown in there too. I have two weeks left in the flower room and the definites to go in are:
3 Twisters (high Brix)
2Tuts (chem)
1 THC Bomb (Chem)

The ones I am still deciding on are whether to put in the 3 Pineapple fields (High Brix) if they get big enough. If they don't I will put in the two Huck Kush 11s (Chem).

I am working to get rid of the chem plants, all the new clones are High Brix only. I have 4 Bluniverse seedlings including the one I saved in the cloner. They are in 16oz cups and will get transplanted into High Brix soil. I have 6 4Csins seedlings in 1 gallon high brix pots. (you can see them in the raised green tray in the center of the blurple.
The six definites are going to get transplanted into the 10 gallon pots in the next few days. They are in 3 gallons right now as are the 3 pineapple fields girls and the two HK11s. That will crowd the area some (noooo!) but most of the flowering girls will come out in a week (Agent Orange will be two weeks). That will clear quite a bit of space.

I also plan on transplanting one of each strain that are in high brix soil to 3 gallon pots and putting them in a closet to flower with a silver thiosulfate treated twister plant in a 1 gallon pot. I can't even imagine how good a huckleberry twist would be or Pineapple twister.

Re: ShiggityFlip Starts The Hunger Games - Huckleberry Kush - Agent Orange & Mad Hatt

Not a bad problem Shiggity. Keep those girls flowering. I sometimes find a little unused space in my flowering tent.

Im pretty excited about those twister crosses your talking about.:woohoo: It's so cool to see how a few Pineapple fields of the same seed batch i have do in flower.

Re: ShiggityFlip Starts The Hunger Games - Huckleberry Kush - Agent Orange & Mad Hatt

Sure do wish I had found this back when you got it started, but better late than never! Looks like you've got a heck of a project going! Wish I had the room you've got to work with! Heck I just wish I had the extra room to set up the little extra 4x4x6 grow tent I have... :)

Re: ShiggityFlip Starts The Hunger Games - Huckleberry Kush - Agent Orange & Mad Hatt

Geez Shiggs, I am impressed every time I see pictures of your garden, not only on how great your plants look and the variety of strains and ages but how the hell do you find the time?? That is an incredible amount of work.

It is! I am so jealous of you and rtk helping each other. As it is sometimes things take longer for me to start or finish. I have to make a lot of time related decisions. Like taking the x4 chem nute plant down. It had a few nanners. If I had the time I would pluck them and keep an eye on it. But in my garden see one nanner and I will pull it. See two or more and the plant comes down. Just can't deal with that kind of thing on my schedule.
When harvest comes I trim one plant per night. When veg gets too tall I go through and cut them all off even instead of carefully pruning each branch. All of my energy goes into the specific girls going in to flower and the ones already there. I need to get in there today and do final upcan of the veg girls going in. I need to tie them back as well. Trying to flip as quick as possible this time.

Re: ShiggityFlip Starts The Hunger Games - Huckleberry Kush - Agent Orange & Mad Hatt

How long will you decide to wait before flip?

ShiggityFlip, thanks for taking the time to do this. I'm in the midst of assembling a DIY cloner and this is very, very helpful. I do have a question, I have some clones that are now 3 weeks into 12 and have noticed they are stretching much less than there parents from seed. is this normal? I will say that most of the clones were taken from the bottom portion of their donors.

Thanks again for putting this together.

:Namaste:
