Shiggity Goes Mad Scientist: Paving The Yellowbrix Road With DIY Adventures!

Yes they can't come after you as there is no way to prove that you ordered them. It could be anyone.

Happened to me once from Herbies... changed my name to wife's name next order ... didn't get order replaced tho only got a 50% discount on next order.
Started ordering from SHN & other seed co's here in the USA, now no problems. Much faster ship too and get seeds in original sealed packaging.

Yeah Shiggs they can't get you for the seeds but... wouldn't want anyone I don't know knocking on my door about it either. Bad nuf when friends come over un-expected. But I'm crazy paranoid... can thank Nancy Ray-Gun and Tricky Dick for that.

On cloning.... done it every way.... right into soil... didn't like the rapid rooters since they never break down for some reason, I think they plants get choked in the begining once transplanted and the gnats ... had enough with them.

Shiggs spot on with cleaning the cloner... for a perfect score we need super clean whatever we use. Can add in a little H2O2 to the res.... to help when you don't have time to clean overnight.

Not sure about that thing from Doc on different type of roots.... I've never had any problems transplanting from a RES clone machine into soil.... didn't know there were different types of roots from soil compared to a hydro setup???.... going with a no on that. Need to read scientific facts to confirm "hydro roots".

Yeah the best thing is to give someone some free herb to ship seeds to their house. I use USA banks as well. Fast and worry free. Plus the US has the best of the best right now. No reason to go to a euro seed bank. Their genetics are old news

Soil roots are the ones with nice fuzz on them. The best soil roots are thin and fuzzy.

Water roots are used by hydro plants and also regular plants that have a steady water table. For example a plant near a stream will spread soil roots to the side and dig deep with the water roots.

You can tell from looking at pics of roots exiting rockwool or root cubes. They are super fuzzy. Roots from my ez cloner are mostly smooth. But it doesn't take much time for a plant to adjust. And the ez cloner allows me to clone a ton and then just leave them for the most part until roots form.

Kind of given up on PWM just gonna use my dimmer as is for now. I just dunno right now?
Don't worry about it for now. I bet if you wait a really cool one will come out in the meantime!
It's hard to make a decision in which way to go. The hurricane or storm look like great controller for the $. But a simple dimmer is hard to beat, and less wires

I am looking again at all the lights with the perspective that I probably won't dim my whites. That would mean I can just get a pwm controller for the LDD mono drivers. So I will be waiting as well because my concentration right now is replacing all the lights in the grow with high efficiency whites.

The first monos I will add will be far red as I will be able to get the most benefit from adding them. I am looking at strips of Cree xpe- far red. 6 diodes per strip. I could use one strip per 2x4 rail for flower initiation. Or go for two for use in Emerson effect.

Re: Shiggity goes mad scientist. Paving the Yellowbrix road with DIY adventures!

Hey Ween! Thanks for reminding me to post the strains I have in seedling form.

IHG la platina
IHG Mendo breath x dosidos
IHG nitro hulk
IHG cactido

Dynasty Ms. Universe Bx

Straymindset afgooey purée (bodhiseeds dreadbread x afgooey x star train)
Straymindset tunnel vision (ninja turtles x granola funk)

Alphakronik Tesla (1-3%THC 12-18%CBD) (harlequin x gobstopper)

Pyramid seed Tutankhamon (last 3 seeds of 5 pack)

Dustedbuds Pacific Blue
Dustedbuds Chrome jacket

Bodhiseeds Joystick (wifi x snow lotus)
Bodhiseeds the fuzz (chem91jb x Appalachia)
Bodhiseeds clusterfunk (chem91skunk va x 88g13hp)

72 seedlings total lmao (I'm so screwed for the next several months)!
The crazy thing is that I just got some IHG Goliath (grateful breath x GG4 x platinum) and some dynasty Huckleberry Diesel (Huckleberry x sour diesel). And I am about to soak them too!

Hey Shigs, I'm loving the strain selection. If you don't mind and if you had a few minutes would you mind running down your list and letting us know why you're interested in each one? I know you are a strain junky so it's fun to get in your head to see why you want these.

:Namaste:

I'm wanting to incorporate 730nm reds, 2-4ft strips into my build. I have the same strips as yours.

Yea shiggs, beavis has great idea about the seeds. I have enough, but always wanting more lol. Like to hear you thoughts on your selection.

My plan is too use my far red initiator puck from 'rapid' on the old analog timer. My aim is to have the thirty min timer for the last 15 min of lights on and then 15 min of just the red with main lights out. ? Does that make sense?
thirty min is the smallest amount of time I can have...

Seeds are always a good topic! :ciao:

IHG la platina
I chose this one because any Platinum cross brings the trichs. This is Platinum x la confidential. I hear great things about LA confidential, it's a piney and skunky and known for its medicinal effects and pain relief.

IHG Mendo breath x dosidos
This is a seedling I have had sitting around since December. It was a freebie and my chance to play with a breath strain!

IHG nitro hulk
Hulkamaniac (purple hulk x animal cookies) is fantastic so I popped this freebie which is gasmask x purple hulk. Hulkamaniac is gas and berry terps. Gas mask is supposed to be rotten lemon berry skunk. This was a freebie but I am looking forward to flowering her!

IHG cactido
Cactus x dosido. Freebie. Nuff said.

Dynasty Ms. Universe Bx
Some of my favorite dynasty strains (Bluniverse, Pineapple Fields) have a Ms. U dad, so I wanted to see what Ms. U is like. She's gonna be super sugar sativa with a Kali mist high.

Straymindset afgooey purée (bodhiseeds dreadbread x afgooey x star train) dreadbread is Colombian landrace mango biche x old mother ghani. Afgooey is a super famous strain that brings on the sugar.
To be honest I saw the picture of this strain in flower and jumped on it. Credit to greenfarms27.

Straymindset tunnel vision (ninja turtles x granola funk)
Just look at the pics and description! Also I am currently sativa heavy and want to bring back more indica.

Alphakronik Tesla (1-3%THC 12-18%CBD) (harlequin x gobstopper)
This was a grab for a nice CBD strain. Low thc as well. It is harlitsu x gobstopper (purple
Urkle x sin city kush) here are the data sheets for Tesla and gobstopper:

Pyramid seed Tutankhamon (last 3 seeds of 5 pack)
I love my two tuts. Time to see if I can find a better one!

Dustedbuds Pacific Blue
The lemon pine terps enticed me and the fact that it does not induce anxiety.
420-magazine-mobile281664795.jpg

Dusted buds Chrome jacket
Silver trichomes and sage terps!
420-magazine-mobile1249583096.jpg

Bodhiseeds Joystick (wifi x snow lotus)
I have always heard amazing things about wifi. And snow lotus as well.

Bodhiseeds the fuzz (chem91jb x Appalachia)
A chance to play with chem91!

Bodhiseeds clusterfunk (chem91skunkVa x 88g13hp)
This strain has a beautiful red pheno I hope to see.

IHG Goliath (grateful breath x GG4 x platinum)
I love my Gorilladosha from IHG. And this strain has it all. Yield, potency, and sugar. Boo yah!

Huckleberry Diesel (Huckleberry x sour diesel).
Been waiting on this for a long time. Snatched em up right away.

This is for sure. I was looking at the TC420 Programmable controller but I would not know if I was even in the right ball park plus it needs a windoze os to run the program I would have to simulate the OS.
Still the coralux seems nice to me.

But I am not gonna worry my poor little brain right now.

EDiT: strains of greatness:nicethread::yikes:

Yes familiar with that.. I use AutoPots which is a btm watering system. The plants roots at the top 1/2 of the pot are all the small fuzzies and completely and thoroughly in the top 1/2 of the pot... then there's the larger root shoots that dig down to the btm of the pot where the water is. I put about 2" of clay balls there and cover with some material then the soil on top. So I don't top water unless I'm giving the girls some candy (compost teas). Those btm roots are where all the business gets done pretty sure.. so not clear on why they are considered less or not as good .... I think they both have a place at the table and my plants are a lot bigger with the AutoPot system. Likely tho cause I wasn't watering them enough.

My plants drink 2 gal of water each per day when it's hot .. sounds like a lot of water, it is they take whatever they want and sometimes it's a lot of water. Like right now, I'm at 25ish days in flower and I'm refilling the 60 gal res every 5 days.
So for 8 plants hooked up to the system refill 60 gal res every 5 days coming down the stretch.

The ladies wouldn't be able to drink like that without those root apical meristem roots. Dicots have a tap root system - that's the big main roots we see start out in the cloner...

The surface area is different, and the water roots don't harbor fungi the way soil roots do. They're less efficient for our system.

Shiggs, I just discovered the Samsung strips! I keep looking for a way to fully supplement the edges of the canopy, but it's very awkward. These strips are perfect! Imagine trimming the rim with pairs of 23 watters and then fill the center with anything you like. :hmmm: They run the same as the panels at 180 Lu/W and about the same price. And I don't think they need a heatsink, spread out like that, 98 in a 44" strip. Heck, just mount it to a strip of aluminum. They're 18mm (0.7") wide.

Interesting addition to the mix, no?

if you look up ledgardener he made a really cool video on a lm561 samsung strip light. he had the 1 foot strips and ran them at half power for 188lm/w. he attached them directly to U channel. A four foot strip costs 26 bucks and should have 96 leds. But for a 240 diode sunboard you only have to pay 50 bucks. Still as you said it would be great as perimeter lighting! They sell lm561c on flexible strips too. The creator of the sunboard, Photon Phantom joked about using them for scrog netting.

The really cool news is Samsung just made a new 220lm/w capable diode!

I saw the ledgardener vid and I thought about it, but as you said, if you want to cover a lot of area you're better off with panels. But remember too, that you'd be ordering more strips, so they're closer to $20, and that's about the same per diode as a panel.

I like strips as a border and for other flexible uses. The 2 foot strips are about the same cost. :cheesygrinsmiley:

[Edit] Lol, I just checked the wattage for the old-style filament mini Christmas lights? The little twinkly ones? 0.4 watts each. The Samsungs run at 0.25 each. Not much heat there.
