Shadowman's First Grow

Aw, sorry Shadow! Look at it this way, you grew him like a boss and gained good experience :Namaste: now more room for miss Medi, and room to add in another plant to the flower tent if the need arises/when the time comes. I'll take a puff to his memory and send some of my 100% females germination streak karma to you ;) :cheer:

hopefully I didn't jinx myself there.....

Damn brother!!!!we gotta keep all boys away from our little girls!!! So what's the plan now? Grow him to harvest seeds or u just gonna castrate him?

Hello fellow growers and cannabis enthusiast. Welcome, glad to have ya. I have to destroy the clone of Little Frankenstein as well. I still will have 6 seedlings so no big deal. I watered the seedlings with distilled water, they all got 1 cup. I got everything except what I'm using for the grow moved out of the storage room. So When my supplies get delivered this week I'll be ready to cover the walls with Panda film. I've not decided if I'm going to cover the ceiling with it yet. I may just to give it a crisp clean effect. I'm not sure how much reflection I'd get from the ceiling anyway. The root ball from LF surprised me somewhat. There wasn't as many roots as I would have thought for 3 months growth but being my 1st grow, I have nothing to compare it to other than what I've seen from others after they harvested. And that's not apples and apples. Any who, here's some photos.

I dusted the soil with "Worry Free" a product that kills more than 250 different insects. You can use it on all plants, inside and out up to the day before harvest. It's made from Chrysanthemums.

Lack of root ball
2014-07-07_08_07_45.jpg

There is some roots in the lower portion of soil but they easily tore away when I pulled the stalk out of the pot.

Little Frankenstein is on his way to the landfill as we speak.
Have a Great Day y'all.

Nice looking clones.
It's good to know they are all girls.

I'm a bit surprised at your rootball. I had the same style of firm center rootball and light network of roots around the perimeter of the pot.
My center rootball on the 24x24x24" boys were all about the size of the 1/2 gallon pot they did for most of their veg. They had started to get root bound in the 1/2 gallons.

Did you plant directly from small pots to the big pots? Your rootball looks like you went directly from 4" to Large.

Again- good to know those clones are girls. You can train and lavish with attention and know you aren't wasting your time and money. :thumb:

Hey Radogast, What's going on my friend? I think you have grow journal syndrome lol, following so many journals they all start to look and sound the same. I only had the one clone and it was from LF when I accidently snipped it's cola. You are right about going from 4" starter pot to 3 gallon. Is it your experience that most if not all plants react that way? This time I put my sprouts in 1 gal and will transplant some into 3 gal and others I'll maybe just throw into flower in the 1 gal as soon as Medi is finished with the tent. I'm thinking if I put 3 in flower in 1 gal, I could manage them even with the lighting I have and can veg out the other 3 in 3 gal pots for bigger grows since I'll have the larger room done. I'll just have to get better lighting. I'll be over a little later, I have to take the dog to the vets for her annual shots. "Keep The Green Side Up"

I took pics of my roots and after 90-100 days I thought it would have been bigger. The tap was pretty decent but there was A LOT of room left in those pots. I think COFinest showed us all what a 9 month root ball looks like when you bring the plant to its potential. They used every bit of soil available showing the magnificence of indoor growing at its best. Sorry for rattling on, it just reminded me of that root ball and how big it was.

Just remember when doing a long good veg is over size pots. You do not want to be half way threw flower and see tips curl down and have plant root bound witch in turn cuts back of your yield. My monster train could have had 8+ more oz if it was in a 15 gallon. If you look close at the pic and videos you will see my monster train was over grown pot real easy. You doing a outstanding job my friend keep up the green growing and I look forward to seeing your D.I.Y grow room.

Shadow, I hate it about your male but you have all that beautiful green left to care for ...

You have a big healthy grow going and the Med is really bushy...she's gonna give you some good stuff !!!:thumb:

Shadow how are you light proofing your grow areas ??? Your ideas for DIY are good ones !:thumb:

Hey granny, Thanks for stopping in. That's the way I feel about it, I've got 6 seedlings to continue after Medi has graced me with some meds. I think I'm going to try 1 flowering clone off Medi after she is done with the stretch. The theory is that by the time your flowering girl is harvested you can put the flowering clone back into flower. Because the clone is taken from a mature female plant, when it roots the growth following is expedited and unless the clone is stressed to the point of turning hermie you are guaranteed a female. As far as light proofing the grow areas, I'm covering the doorway (there is no door just door opening) with Panda film and putting a heavy duty zipper in. As far as separating the room into smaller grow areas, I'm going to hang Panda film from the ceiling and either double up on Panda film or cover the black side with another reflective material like Mylar. I have a good bit of it left from the Veg boxes (I purchased a 4' x 100' roll). Unless anyone gives me a better alternative. Any suggestions? Anyone? That's the plan for now. Thanks for the interest granny. I'll be posting photos as I convert the room so anyone that's following this grow can see how the project is progressing and maybe it will stimulate ideas from others to make it better. Stay tuned in and let me know if you have any ideas, I am not set in stone on my plan since I really don't know what I'm doing for real.

I think that was part of my shock at how small my root system was. Compared to what the Professor kicked out I had a winter onion.
I'll one day be able to bring out the best in my plants also. Talk with you later homie.

The size of the pot is as important as the light system your using. That is one thing I'm definitely learning from you Professor. I also contribute the lack of beneficial bacteria in the soil as part of the small root system issue as well as lighting and some part do to nutes and my lack of knowledge and experience. It's all good though, you can't start out growing like a Master Cultivator. Thanks for the kind words and support. It won't be long and I'll be starting on the DIY grow room and will post photos. KJC and some others are wanting to see it also. I feel honored to have you and other big time growers interested in my humble grow and projects. Thank you for everything guys and gals.

:thanks:

Grow journal syndrome . A-yup, that's me. :)

I'm not saying good or bad on the root ball. Just if you had gone from 4" to 8" and then 3 gallon, your root ball would have looked 8" inches instead of 4".
I figure a pot should be similar in size to the width of a plant IF we were growing a perennial. For cannabis grown as a short season annual, big enough notito be root bound, small enough not to hold two weeks of water. But one can shed water with perlite and go a bigger pot :)

Just went and turned my little seedling girls Laverne and Shirley on as well, along with a morning spray and 3 ml of water set out. Hey Shadow, do you set water out or do you go right from the tap? Not sure if you've checked out our water here, but I know the county's water is at 100-120 ppm, I'm assuming the cities water would be very similar even though we get our water from two different rivers. Should this have been private?

Hey Chinnubie, morning. Actually I use distilled water, it's what is suggested or RO for the Ideal 420 Soil. The distilled is about half the cost of RO in my area anyway. I don't think you gave away any secrets with this post. Did you notice a marked improvement with the Mylar over the tin foil? I'm getting ready to do an update then I'll be over to check your girls. Talk with you soon.

I've been setting water out, but it's my understanding that 120 ppm has low enough mineral content to be ineffectual when watering plants. Better safe than sorry I suppose.

Good Morning :420: :welcome: Medi has gained 4" in flowering stage and still has about 2 weeks of stretch left. As soon as she is done stretching I'm going to defoliate her and trim useless branches which at least 1 of I'll be doing a flowering clone. 1) I want to practice cloning and 2) I want to see how long it takes to root from flower and then re-veg her until Medi is harvested. Then I'll put the clone back in flower with 1 or 2 that are in the veg box now. The others in veg now I'll keep vegging until the second harvest and then I'll flower them. In the mean time my plans are to get the new grow room put together and sectioned off into 4 separate areas. I will be getting supplies delivered in the next couple of days and weeks and then I'll just have lighting issue to address to complete my grow expansion. I'm ordering more seeds today, I'm getting: AK 47 XTRM, Thai Skunk, White Widow and 20 free seeds to be determined later. Here's some photos for y'all.

This is the Heavy Duty Zipper I'll use for the grow room doorway

The special ops was the Green LED Headlamp I thought I would give you a look to see how effective it is. I like it and can see perfectly while using it. Worth it if you need to get at your plants during dark cycle. That's about it for now, talk to you later and "Keep The Green Side Up"
