Shadowman's First Grow

Check out my smoked pork shoulder I just did. Video on YT. I do not think I can post it here.

Awesome Professor, I'll head over there and take a look. You gotta love cooking outside! I've been reluctant to smoke any meats yet, but I'm working on making a hood for my open firepit/grill combo. Then I'll give it a go.

Nice setup, The pork shoulder looked absolutely tasty! I'll be on the grill tomorrow, nothing fancy just some chicken thighs, drumsticks, pork loins and hotdogs. I also liked the NO B S vid you did! You gotta love it when someone is a straight shooter!!

Shadow,
Thanks for the message you sent on 4/20 and unfortunately I didn't notice it until I started really poking around here. Plus I can't send a message back until I have 50 total posts so, I apologize for using this thread for this purpose.

:welcome: Not a problem Chinnubie, I don't rule with an iron fist, I'm laidback and try to take things in stride. I'm glad you're finding your way around and if you need any help don't be shy about asking. I don't know anything but there are a lot of people here that can give you the knowledge you seek. :thanks: Stop in anytime.

Hey MaggiesFarm, You ever spice up your BBQ with THC? Maybe infuse it? or add it to the sauce? I'll bet you can throw-down some tasty chow! I might have to try and persuade you to share some recipes. I watch a lot of cooking channel stuff and always enjoy watching competition BBQ, I'm no master but I enjoy cooking and try things I learn from others. I'm a big Bobby Flay fan.

Hey everyone and :welcome:, Just a quick update. Things are going well, Little Frankenstein that I transplanted into 3gal pot is doing great and Medijuana that I topped is responding nicely. Here's some pics.
Medijuana recently topped, new growth.

I haven't tried adding THC.....yet. Would definitely be a good additive to chicken wings or jalapeno poppers. I can also see cannabutter on grilled corn.

I grew up in the KC area and my dad taught me to enjoy cooking. When I met my wife she said I was the only guy she's ever known to have both Bon Appétit and The Hockey News on the coffee table. I'll probably be smoking some StL trimmed spare ribs and a pork butt this weekend.

Back on topic: Your plants are looking good. Have you done anything beyond the 420 soil instructions? I'm using FFOF for my outdoor test grow, but I'd like to try the 420 soil down the road.

Hey MaggiesFarm, I am trying to keep the grow within Ideal 420 Soil's recommendations as much as possible so I can give an honest opinion on their product. They also have an additive(Rhizostym). Their recommendation is if you want to add anything more than water use their additive, but I did add some cal/mag+. I can tell you one thing that I do like so far is the soil drains very well. Thanks for coming by and adding to my grow experience. Your Welcome anytime.

Water reads 7.0 both by drops and the 0.2 increment test strips.
ppm comes in between 80 & 120 ppm before nutes.
No chlorine, nitrates, or nitrities detected.

This is town well water that is filtered and tested, but untreated. It travels about 2 miles to my house.
I'm going to measure my brook, stream and swamp soon to see if they look as good :)
:peace:

You have excellent water, I would monitor your plants to determine if they do require calcium and magnesium supplementation.

:welcome: Hey fellow grow enthusiast, I've got a bit of an issue going on for the last few days. I'll post some pics and wait for comments and advice. From what I can tell by charts, I have a phosphorus deficiency but I've also read that is more rare, I only started having this issue since I added cal/mag+. Could there be a connection? My soil ph is 6.5-6.8 and the other plant isn't having this issue. See what you think. This is my Medijuana.

They have been doing good until the last 3 or 4 days, at first when the leaves on Medijuana started curling, I thought it was too hot and they were drying out, it's only curling on 2 sets of fan leaves and only on the 1 plant. I've only watered with the cal/mag+ 2 times 5 days apart. It wasn't until just before the second watering with cal/mag+ that the curling and browning showed. After the 2nd watering it spread to the 2nd fan leaf(just the middle finger)(is it telling me something?)lol.
Any comments and suggestions/advice are welcome and appreciated. :thanks:

I agree with your diagnosis of a phosphorous deficiency. How are you testing your soil pH? Are you testing the runoff pH?

You want pH 5.8 for hydroponic and soiless (peat moss and coco coir) and pH 6.5 for soil.

Here is a nutrient availability chart

Hey KingJohnC, I'm growing in soil and I have a soil ph meter, I'm within the recommended range, I'm at the higher end, closer to 6.8 but still not all that bad. I don't have a liquid tester for ph to test runoff. Thanks for the reply and the charts, I know you're a busy guy with helping others and your own grows. :thanks:
