Seedsman Sponsored Grow: Peyote Wi-Fi By Beez

@dr.h00k The recipe actually called for 100% sphagnum peat moss. I have a number of bags of Pro Mix left that I'm trying to use up which is why I mixed 1/2 and 1/2. This is what my tote of soil looked like a few days after mixing it. So I'm confident it's alive. I sincerely appreciate any and all helpful advice. I'm a long way away from where I don't need help and suggestions.

...hehehe... :thumb: ...definitely!...that's the thing about recipes...if the results are not what you expect, you're left to wonder where Ya' went wrong...:hmmmm:...in any event, I'm sure they'll be fine and explode for you soon...didn't mean to sound critical...was just curious...cheerz...:high-five:...h00k...:hookah:

@dr.h00k I definitely didn't look at your post as being critical in any way whatsoever. It was a valid question and trust me I ask a LOT of questions as I try to improve my skills. I've seen the fruits of your labors. You feel free to leave a comment or suggestion any time.

Trouble in Paradise!!
My last post was on Sunday. If you'll recall I up-potted my Peyote Wi-Fi plant from a 2 gallon container to it's forever home in a 7 gallon fabric pot. The plant had a really nice, healthy root mass. Nowhere near rootbound, but nice white roots from bottom to top of the soil mass. I got her located in the tent and got her watered. That brings us to today.

I did not notice anything amiss when I gave her a little water this morning. But when checking on her this afternoon something caught my eyes, and being honest it really pissed me off. This is what I saw. So far only on a few of the huge fan leaves but geez!!!

With advice from trusted soil growers on 420 it was determined that I needed to feed her some Cal-mag. So I mixed up a half gallon of water with 2ml of Cal-mag and slowly watered it in covering as much of the surface as possible. What makes me mad in my roller coaster ride of learning to grow in organic soil is the plant has only been in the soil for 2 freakin days and is already showing a deficiency in flowering. My experience so far with organic soil is that the plants do really quite well in veg, but not as well in flowering.

For this sponsored grow I bought all new ingredients to make what should be a high quality soil. I purchased Coast of Maine Lobster compost. I bought a bag of fresh earthworm castings. A big bag of medium sized perlite which I rinsed thoroughly before use. And I mixed 1/2 Sphagnum Peet Moss with 1/2 Pro-Mix BX. I invested in Clackamas Coots minerals and nutrients and followed the mixing directions to the letter. The soil was mixed 2.5 weeks prior to use. If this grow does not go well I'll have a bunch of ingredients for sale. :(

For the next watering I will be making a couple gallons of ACT which I hope can maybe kick start the soil a bit.
I would hold off on any hasty decisions with selling anything...especially without running another strain or other plants of the same strain. She was perfectly happy in that same soil mix for veg....and you just up potted her a couple days ago so its impossible that she is fulling rooted and has drained much of anything from the new soil.

Every strain and every plant of a strain is different and can grow differently under the same conditions. I know I shared with you that I have three of Seedsman Blueberry plants going in the same 3 gallon pot of soil. Two of the three are perfectly healthy while the other one shows the exact same signs of deficiency as your plant does. Obviously the soil has sufficient nutrients and minerals since two of the three are fine (as are all the other plants currently in that mix of soil) but that one Blueberry is being pissy. I have since top dressed it twice and the new growth is fine. No clue why that plant is flipping me the finger. I certainly won't give up my soil cause one plant isn't happy.

I don't know if you follow a lot of the Brixers journals but I hear them talk about some strains that were bred in salt based ferts as being extremely demanding nutritionally and they have a special product for those strains that just seem pissy like that. You just might have a strain that was bred in salt based ferts and might just be pissy.

I have an OG/Cookie strain (Pamelina) that I can't get happy in my soil no matter what I do. I sent you a pic of it when I sent the last pic of the Jellium....side by side....with the clones both being the same age. I asked the person I got the cut from he never had issues with that strain growing good. I threw the previous cut of it away this summer cause I thought she was infected with the funk I had running around. This time its growing the same basic way....just flat out moody and pissy, even after getting up potted and sitting for 2 weeks. I share this story so you see that not every strain will be happy in soil. Don't give up on organic because of one plant.

I understand what your saying Beez. You shouldn’t have a deficiency in fresh soil I wouldn’t think. Frustrating I’m sure. I grow with Docs kit and if there are signs of anything wrong it usually comes back to the microbes not connecting with the roots. So if my leaves look like this and I know the ratios are right for the minerals in the soil then I gotta fix the microbes. Maybe the ACT will do that if it wasn’t just needing a little extra cal mag. Anyway...Hoping she straightens up soon for ya!
This was why I recommended the ACT.....exactly for the root reason. Doesn't seem like something is clicking in the new soil. I also recommended a longer cook than the 2.5 weeks he gave it. I don't use mine with anything less than a full month, but I prefer 45 days.

I gave the Peyote Wi-Fi a good visual going over today. I'm pleased to say I am not seeing any more calcium deficiency on any other leaves and it's not advancing on the three or four that were affected initially. I continue to water in some Protekt silica and today I applied a foliar spray of the Pro-tekt silica. For whatever reason the branches on this plant continue to be droopy. No way they can hold up any weight without being supported. I started the bubbler on 2 gallons of ACT late yesterday afternoon. Tomorrow is watering day for the girl and I'll see how thirsty she is. Hoping the ACT can jump start her. Here is a quick pic.

I'm feeling much better today about the Peyote Wi-Fi plant in the organic soil. I see no signs of further calcium deficiency so that's a very good thing. Since topping her at 18" tall above soil her top 4 branches are already nearly as tall as the top of the plant. And the next lowest are on their way up as well. I've had to tuck some of those massive fan leaves to the side so the branches could sneak past.

Something that I'm liking about this strain is that it's not overloaded with foliage. I've grown some plants that were so thick with big and small leaves no air or light could pass through and I was constantly trimming off leaves. Once this girl is finished stretching, and I don't get the feeling she's going to stretch all that much, I'll clean up her bottom and take a couple cuttings.

Things are looking up for this plant. Thanks to those who were quick to point me in the right direction.

Not much to report on the Peyote Wi-Fi this morning. She is doing very well. Her color had darkened up quite nicely. The Calcium deficiency seems to have been remedied. She is slowly stretching and her lower branches are slowly growing towards the top of the plant.

What else is going on you might ask? Well I've decided to give a go at growing two plants in the same pot. This is a 7 gallon Geo Pot fabric pot. I up-potted these two Jellium plants into the fabric pot two days ago. They will replace the Dark Devil in my flowering tent on Tuesday when she is harvested. They are currently both very close to 24" tall from the top of the soil. The soil is my first attempt growing in my used LOS which I amended a few weeks ago. This will be a crapshoot all the way around. Not sure about the soil. Not sure how two will grow in the same pot together. Should be fun. Or not!!

That brings us to my two new recruits.

First up is what could potentially be a winner from In House Genetics called Garlic Sherbert. This is a cross between GMO (Chemdog X Girl Scout Cookies) and Blue Sherbert ( Sunset Sherbert X Blue Cookies) So lots of cookies and some Chemdog tossed in there for flavor. ha ha ha Could be a very nice one. Well I germinate all my seeds in perlite. A number of them sprout with the helmet still partially on which was the case with this one. It was a snap to remove the helmet, but then I found that her membrane was firmly in place. I had to go "hands on" to remove it or she was gonna die I'm real sure. I scrubbed up with alcohol and performed successful surgery.

Post surgery

Prior to surgery with membrane in place

I felt like if she made it through the night last night she might make it. Here she is this morning. I think she's going to be okay.

Next up is a strain that has piqued my interest since I first read about it. This is Katsu Seeds Pre-98 Bubba Kush. She was planted about 1/4" deeper then the Garlic Sherbert and took a day and a half longer to sprout. But when she did pop up it was without a helmet or membrane. So I'm thinking she's good to go. She's only been above PERLITE for a couple hours now.

I look forward to seeing what these girls will do and how they'll like my soil.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday.

Breezy I've read through your columbian gold and I have a couple of questions for you about the application of collodial silver. I want to reverse a whole feminized plant. You said to start applying cs to the nodes and stems of branch you want to reverse. You said five days before flowering. Is that five days before flip? Or five days after flip? which would be about five days before day one of flowering. Would it be ok to spray it on since I want to reverse the whole plant. Sorry to hijack this grow....

I start applying the colloidal silver 5-7 days before flipping the plant (moving it into the flowering light cycle) so five days before flip.

If you spray on the colloidal silver you'll do two things. The first is the damage to the plant. If you're spraying it you'll be hitting the leaves which is not necessary for it to work. But it will work spraying it on. The plant will just look really bad.

I brush it on because I can create enough pollen on two good sized branches to pollinate a dozen plants and make thousands of seeds AND still harvest good smokeable buds off the pollen producing plant. Plus I use 80% less CS brushing it on as opposed to spraying it on. And remember to keep applying it until you see a good number of pollen sacks. You don't stop when you flip the plant. I've had it take up to 35 days for a plant to reverse.

Thanks so much for all your help. You have convinced me to paint the cs on just a few branches. I'll be looking you up to let you know when and how it all goes for me. And ask any questions that rise up at that time. I'll be following along on this journal as I find your journals very informative. A lot of great knowledge gets passed along from this wonderful community.

I just planted from seedman 3 white widow feminized, 3 alaskan purple feminized, and 3 of the "New" on December 17th. 8 of the nine are above the soil. I'm so happy, although the one that hasn't came up was one of the "New" seeds. That's the plant I plan on making pollen from. Still two are above ground so my plan is still in play.

Crap forgot to include picture. These pictures are the of them just coming out of the ground. Got pictures of my 3 crown royale clones, 3 strawberry kush clones, three unknown clones. Finally a picture of my flower room with the plants that the clones were taken from. They also flipped on the 17th.

How long have your cuttings been in the solo cups? You said they are clones, I was wondering how long till you saw roots on them? The strain...……...The New...……..this is from Humboldt?

I'll be following along on this journal as I find your journals very informative. A lot of great knowledge gets passed along from this wonderful community.
Heck, I find my journals very informative too. :) I rely greatly on the acquired knowledge of the members here and thank goodness that they're willing to take the time to help out when they see it's needed.

Harvested my Dark Devil auto today. Darn tasty looking buds.

That made room in my flowering tent for the Jellium twins. This for me is an experiment as much as anything else. The Jellium is not a big producer but the quality is very nice. So I'm wanting to see if I can grow two plants side by side in the same 7 gallon pot and yield more in the same footprint then a single Jellium. We'll see what happens.
