I thought I would share a couple pictures of one of my auto crosses I created this summer. The mother/father (reversed) plant was a Quarter Pounder auto from Canuk Seeds. The pollen recipient was Gorilla Glue auto from Fast Buds. Individually these two are potent as heck. Anxious to see what they produce working together. These sprouted I believe 13 days ago so call them 2 weeks old.

I am growing these out in 2 liter bottles. Not looking for much of a yield, this is all about determining the quality of the final product and doing so in a very confined space which is the reason for the 2 liter bottles.

I’m gonna need to sample those seeds.

Day 11 Update

Today I really wetted the pots down. For the most parts the centers are moist but not wet. I mixed up 6L of water, and each pot got 1.5L.

The Mix:
2g of MC
.6g Kelp Extract
Tap Water PPM: 208
Final PPM: 465

The Pics:

THC Bomb in the FFOF has responded better than her sister, and better than her rival the GG. I've been propping her up a bit closer to the light which allowed me to raise the light a bit and help some stretch on the other two.
I have a feeling the GG's are going to be short and bushy.

THC Bomb in MGOS is coming along fine. She's looking really healthy right now as well and is enjoying her home.

GG in FFOF is the slow mover. She finally started to perk up a bit. As I mentioned the last update she looked a little droopy. It turns out she just needed the extra drink that I was referring to earlier.

GG in MGOS to be. I've been thinking why the second seed died. I could see one maybe, but two in the same medium was odd. Nothing had changed and the other seed is responding well in the MGOS.
I only changed one variable when planting the new GG seed, and that was the LED light. The first seeds had a small seedling lamp on them. Once those broke soil they were given the LED light at 1000W, fairly high around 36-40".
At that time the THC Bomb in FFOF was stretching, so the lights were lowered to 30". The second seed was in around the same time, and when she poked her hed through I think the light was too much.
So, I created a little umbrella for her this time to keep her out of the direct light. I'm hoping the issue was related to that so we'll soon see. She was dropped in the soil yesterday, the 9th.

Finally a group shot. You can see the THC Bomb in the back left corner sitting higher than the rest.

I have a question about the FFOF and autos. Doesn't the FFOF have more then enough nutrients already in it to more then meet the needs of auto flower and photo plants for at least 3 weeks? And the second part of my question.....if you do still need to add extra nutrients (2 g. MC) why not just grow in a less expensive bland medium and just feed them what they require to thrive?

I am preparing to "push" the two autos I'm growing along with you. My two are currently being fed 3 grams MC / gallon of water with the PH at 6.5 This is what I typically feed my autos their whole lives.....well closer to 4 grams actually. I am anxious to see how they respond to 6.0 to 6.5 grams of MC / gallon of water.

These were taken this morning at right at around 2 weeks old.

Hi Beez,
this is my third grow with FFOF, two with autos and one with photos. Each time I fed early, well before the 30 days people talk about, and have not had any issues.
I feed autos early because I want them to get big fast. If I introduce the nutes in a liquid form they are most likely going to absorb it faster. I'm waiting for the roots to find and locate the food, where I can save them some work. As you can see, a couple of days ago the one plant got a good dose of MC, almost 400ppm worth of food exc tap water ppm.

The soil has enough nutes in it yes, but there isn't enough, imho, if you want the autos to be strong early.
I prefer to use soil because of the watering. I tried Promix once, and although I never gave it a fair shot, I was always worried about them drying out. I've always liked playing in dirt, and when I get results like I have in the past there's no reason to switch.
I think if plants are given the right amount of nutes, in the right areas, the plants will benefit.

All this is speculation and nothing I have read or picked up. It's what I think is right and works well for me.

Thanks Beez.

Just so you understand, I'm a question asker. Always have been. I wouldn't think of disputing how you do what you do. Heck I wouldn't be following your thread if I didn't know I could learn from you. I'm just one of those (some call it anal) thorough people who likes to understand why I'm doing what I'm doing instead of just doing it because others are doing it. Kind of like that old saying....."if everyone else jumped off a bridge would you too"?

One thing I have only been able to sort of do is water in a ring around the edge of the 2 liter bottle. Not a lot of room to work with there. Honestly I was afraid that the 3 grams I'm feeding the two autos would burn their tips or stunt their growth but so far they're handling it okay. Right now I'm debating whether or not to top them and if so when to do it.

LOL, no problem at all. My answers may not be what you are looking to hear, but I'll answer everyone of them. :)

The MC is very forgiving, more so in soil. I've seen @Virgin ground make small changes to her MC and the plants react differently. In soil they tend to take more.

Topping your autos is done between day 15-21. I try and get the fifth node growing so I top down to the fourth. How you top may be different, but the timeframe remains within that window.
Autos can flower anytime after 21 days.

I've been giving my 2' Himalaya Gold plant 5g/ gallon. I have been having a pH problem that I've hopefully corrected. Despite this my HG is growing a couple of inches a day.
I'll have a better idea if this needs to be increased in a day or two. I don't want to bombard them with nutes.
She is in hempy so I feed almost every day. I think they could take a bit more.

And what if you've not reached the 5th node by the time 21 days has elapsed? Do I wait, or perhaps remove the 4th node and call it topped? I've not grown a whole lot of autos, a handful of Dark Devil autos and maybe 6 or 8 more total. About half I topped the other half left to grow as they liked. Pretty much no matter how I've done it I get the same 1 to 1.5 oz. They just didn't get very big. And of course if you have a small plant you'll have a smaller yield. I'm hoping to learn how to consistently reach 2-3 (or better of course) per plant.

Oh, and for my notes......when you say you top down to the fourth node, are you taking the 4th node off or taking just the 5th node?

Thanks VG...so they have been responding well to the MC. 5g/ gal is pretty good. You're at the range that is equal to the bloom level of week 1-2.

You should have the fifth node, albeit it may be short. The longer you can let that fifth node go the better. Right now I can see your fourth node just coming into the pic, and you're at day 14... you should be fine.

You are just taking the fifth node off. I'll be doing a quadline, so I'll be taking everything off above the fourth, and below the third. This leaves me with nodes three and four.

They are in 2 liter soda bottles. I know they won't get big I just happened to have planted those two the same day I found your new thread and though PERFECT TIMING! So even if they don't get big I can still learn as I go which is the best way for me to learn at my age.

Last I heard a few of us were going to try and do a comparative grow, or challenge, of @seedsmans Gelato OG this summer. I'll be dropping mine around mid-late april inside then once warm enough, out she goes. So ya definately outside!

I'll see I'd I can get my hands on some as would love to do it outdoors as I'm sure the thread will be never ending come my summer time....

Ooh this looks promising brother, very interested, as the trich development on my GG by fastbudZ was crazy and then I burnt the girls dead...haha
Haven't tried reversing yet but will soon when I have a victim....

That would be awesome Brother! It'd be great to see what that SA sun does to a Gelato :thumb:

I'm so glad someone said something! I was really proud of that. Even slides up and down if needed. Patent Pending.

DAY 13 Update

Hey everybody!

OK day 13 and the THC Bombs are on track. The one in FFOF is the strongest and will most likely be the best of the two. It broke soil a day before the others and never looked back. I still have her on the platform higher than the others and she's responding well.

Here's the one in MGOS... she's handling things just as well, just behind by about two days of growth.

The GG in FFOF may not amount to much. These seeds have been nothing short of useless. I'm not counting on that third seed to pop the ground although it had a fair size tap. The one in the pic that is growing in FFOF does not want to grow very fast at all.

The RH you see is because the tent is open. When it's closed I'm running 55% RH.

Today's Summary
All the plants are doing good in their own way. The GG is healthy, just slow, which isn't helping but it is growing. All the plants will be getting a good feeding again tomorrow. They handled 400ppm and 600ppm no problem so it's time to rock and roll.

I found these pot lifters on Zon for around 4-5 bux each. I got the 13" size and the 16" size. The smaller ones are perfect for me in the tent, as you will see below, and the larger ones for the 7gals outside this summer.

I don't know how I never noticed them before. They're fantastic!

edit: you said that already!
