Hey shaggie420! Thx for the thoughts....yea, I did end up getting the fat screen out carefully, then cleaned the glass w/ the alcohol...i did clean out the tiny bit of resin at the end of the tubing with a q-tip dipped in alcohol, and it came right out. I am just going to clean it weekly like this, I think this will help maintain it, and preserve it's long life. It didn't seem to react at all to the thick plastic tubing, but as you stated, I know it's cheap, so I will eventually just replace it when it's time.

Thanks so much for stopping in to help answer that question my friend! And yea, they get HOT!!! Already got 2 tiny burns from the end of the glass bowl touching my skin on accident after it comes off the heater stem....it IS rounded, so the damn thing rolls! I have to get it set up just right, so the hot end is up in the air, cooling off before I attempt to touch it. That part sucks! I HATE burns! Well, pain makes you remember stuff better, so yea, I am really careful w/ that damn thing and I turn the box off as soon as I'm going to stop for a few, trying to keep it on for no more than 10-20 minutes maximum.

I'm going to post new pics of my plants later today I hope. I always appreciate any input , ideas, or thoughts...

to clean the glass use rubbing alc.... the plastic.. i dont know.... i always just replace it once in a while as the tube is cheep from the supply store. you could try cleaning it with alc... but it could do something to the plastic depending on the type......

I think I am doing my math wrong....I thought I was going into week 8 of flower on Monday coming up, but I just went back thru my journal, and I have it recorded that June 13th was her 1st day of flower. That would make today day 45 of flower, and put me in the middle of week 6, not week 7! WOW! I almost could have stopped giving her her food and flushing and plucking her too early...If she's half Sativa, and a reg. Sativa goes about 10-12 weeks in flower they say,,,I am just going to guess that I'm going to try to let her go another month, if I can. The trichs, which I am NOT great at looking at, are really hard for me to read, and the scope I got is good, a lighted 60x100%, that DOES show them, but it's so small of an eyepiece, and I can't hook it up to my phone to show you all pics of them, so i am still unsure of myself...It seems that as I look at each different flower, that the trichs are mostly , lets say 50-60% milky, and only about 15-20% are amber in color, as far as I can tell....I sure wish I had a buddy close by to help me with this stuff! Anyways, I got my dates back on track, so she is just getting frostier, stickier, and fatter, but NOT BIGGER! She hasn't grown in height in over a month! Her buds are growing fat and sticky like I said, and I know that's what I want, I just thought it would still grow a bit more in size. Especially with all I've heard about the "Hempy" way allowing more accelerated growth, huge rootball size, and therefore, larger plants that are supposed to grow big and fast....But sinceI am so unsuccessful in germinating seeds, I haven't been able to germinate another since the Emerald jack. That means I paid a LOT for MMJ seeds that I only got 3 out of 10 total to germinate! I SUCK SUCK SUCK at germination!!!! I am SO cloning this Jackie!!! And I have to wait quite a while to be able to get any more MMJ seeds now cuz I'm so broke. Also, since I only have 1 plant now in flower and one in veg, I think that the new plant, the Emerald Jack, I am going to try her in a soil mix...will be using a combo of FFOF & perlite, but LOTS less perlite! Just enough to allow good drainage...I want to try a regular soil grow for the first time, and since I don't have 4 or 6 or a dozen plants to care for and move around, this seems the perfect occasion. Also, since I want this Emerald Jack to be a mother plant, I would think that putting her in soil would be a good idea for that as well.

I could really use some great ideas from my friends out there right now. I'm not as happy with "Hempy" as I thought, at least as long as I have to still hand water, and don't have a res and a pump to do the watering, so I have to carry heavy buckets full of water back and forth to the bathroom and the closet. I had to carry the whole plant to the bathtub to dump the extra water in the bucket below, and it almost broke my back! I think that using the FFOF and the Advanced Nutrients 3 part system for food, will keep the new girl very happy- I hope!

I hate change....but I can't stand by and continue to be dissatisfied with the results I am having and not try to do something about it.

I just don't have ANY room for error, this is my LAST PLANT! Till I take clones from her.

And I think that I'm going to enter my Xena in next months' POTM, and then after it's cured, maybe enter her top bud in the NOTM contest for the following month, after it's dried and cured. And then sometime in the future, my little Jackie will be the next beautiful plant for all to see, and to take care of me.

THANKS FOR THE KIND THOUGHTS AND WORDS, MY FRIEND...I appreciate that you cared enough to see what I am facing and think enough of me to stop and send those loving and kind words to me, they sure helped me feel better....I have a bizarre stomach issue for the last 11 months...I've assumed it was all the arthritis medication, and morphine they've had me on for almost 6 years now...So I stopped ALL the arthritis meds, cut back to less than HALF the morphine I've been taking for all those years ( I had 7 surgeries in less than 3 years- 5 on both knees and then they pulled 2 blown out discs and fused 3 vertebrae together w/ 6 screws and 2 rods...I've also got a new left knee, and 2 screws in both shins right below the kneecaps...

SOOO that's why I need true mmj herbs, I am trying to control of some MASSIVE pain, pain that constant morphine alone has so far dealt with...but I don't want to die early, I just want to let herbal meds take care of me. So the real dope has to go, and I want to just have mary jane take care of me...I sure hope she can........

rv glad that you caught the Time on flowering! thoese last 2 weeks are importaint as they can put on up to a third of their weight in that time ans well as thats when most of the chemical reactions take place in the plant! i always have a callender near the grow area for that reason... i write down everything from how old to their feedings and what they got.
checking trichs can be difficult... just keep at it.

as for help on Nutes and Substrate.... i would recommend going away from AN... though i love them and use them at work they can be a lot to deal with for a new grower....
my recommendation for truly easy minimally difficult nutes would be the new General Organics Line from GH... its very easy and doesnt need much testing.... the other one would be Vital Earths liquid Nutes (who i have become a big fan of) its a 2 part and they also have beneficials and kelp.
for you i would say General O (they say its a Vegan Nute)would be your best bet
as for your substrate try a 50/50 mix of loose coco and your choice of soil.
MMJ and Coco love each other IMO i have never seen as massive root structures with any other substrate

your Xena looks frosty keep up the great job shes healthy!

RVG, it's also worthy to note that seed breaders estimates for harvest are usually agressive and based on ideal conditions. It's not uncommon for the plants to take an extra week or two longer than what the breaders site, or seed comany lists.

As you get close to harvest, you'll see the calyxes swell and watch for most of the white pistils to get "absorbed" back into the bud. When she's ready, there will be very fiew white pistils showing. Most will turn red (75% or so) and pistils will start to die and fall off the plant. You'll also see signs of yellowing, since the plant will think it's autumn.

I also recommend taking small samples every few days as you near harvest time. Let the plant keep going as long as the samples keep improving.

Inspecting trichomes is not the "tell-all" as when to harvest, but can be a good indicator. It's a better indicator if you know what the mix of cloudy/amber is at PEAK potency already, then look for that mix.

Shaggie is 100% correct about the serious weight that's put on in the last couple of weeks and one of the biggest mistakes noobs make is harvesting too early. After months of work in taking the plant this far, don't "short" yourself by chopping a week early!

Hey there Mr. Krip, & shaggie420, thanks for stopping in again to observe the noob in her element, lol! Yea, I hear what you guys are saying, that's also what I have come to know to be true through my journal reading- that people, especially noobs, as we are jokingly called ( with love I know!), do get excited and chop way too early....but I am a grandmother....I am in NOOOOOO hurry.....I'm not getting paid to be in a hurry anymore, so therefore, unless I'm on fire, I'm not ever trying to be in any hurry! lol! So don't worry, I would NEVER pull my girl too early, not after what I have gone thru to make it this far! And besides that, since this is for my pain control and not so much a Sativa giggly high, I heard it actually holds true that by letting the plant go as long as possible, that's where the chemicals change things inside the THC and you get more pain control with plants that are harvested later than earlier...

Seriously, though, yeah, I am still seeing lots of very white pistils on the flowers, and her calyxes, well, I am not sure how to tell how much fatter they are going to get, but I hear ya about the red and amber hairs all being like re-absorbed into the plant or just falling off and I HAVE seen a few other growers' plants that showed some slight yellowing on the large fans, and I was wondering what that was about- you say the plant thinks it's fall...well that makes total sense! Duh!
And, shaggie, as for the nutes, I am not able to purchase any more new nutes at this time. I am on disability and Medicare....broke as a joke and scared to death that I'm going to lose that! So I have to either go with plain ol' Miracle Grow, the AN I have left, or plain Osmocote, which doesn't have those important micronutrients, thats why I went with AN in the first place...I haven't burned any plants yet, I started at half strength, and kept the ph at about a 6.0......Since I am using perlite only in the flowering plant right now, I had to have something to really feed that plant, and it HAS! I still have lots of AN stuff left, and Plants' Success' "Great White" Mychorrizal Powder, and AN's "Big Bud Powder", for my younger plant now....the one in flower is already on the "Overdrive" for a few weeks now, but I might have started that a bit early....I never thought about the calendar thing....this journal alone is the MOST I've done ever just trying to record dates, etc...I think that is an excellent idea...
I wish I had the ability to get some coco fibre....i really am that broke, seriously. Unless some really really cheap stuff at Walmart will work as well....I don't think I'll be able to change anything...I couldn't even buy any more perlite right now if I WANTED to go with another Hempy-grow with my Emerald Jack. But I have a little perlite left, and almost a half bag of FFOF, so that's how it's going to have to go I think...It IS a weed....I am trying not to over-think this. And you can't get blood out of a rock as they say, so I have to go with what I got...I was just hoping you all would chime in with something like, " Oh yeah! That would be a GREAT mix!" lol!
Anyways, I HAVE to get that little seedling outta her little prison in that little plastic cup...and put her into her own big pot with some fresh soil, perlite and some water only for now...I don't think she's going to need "food" this young in FFOF, do you guys?

I am going to learn all I can about her strain and how to make her an excellent mom plant to take many clones from! Time to study! Hope you all like her new digs...

Here is my girl, Jackie, about 6 hours after planting her into her "permanent" home...Look at her stretching for the sky she's so healthy and happy!I used a 50/50 mix of FFOF & perlite on the bottom 1/3rd of the 3 gal. bucket. Then I put straight FFOF on top of that, dug her hole, dropped her in, well, lay her in with the gentlest of care, and then I watered with a little 6.5 ph'd water with the good 'ol "Superthrive" that my grandmother taught me to use a long, long, long time ago...THE STUFF NEVER FAILS....In fact, I will add it by 10 drops a gallon to the feeding program after I start "feeding" her, what little bit that will be needed, since she's gone soil and with FFOF. But for now, just ph'd water...as needed.....only as needed.

Yeah, I like AN very much so far, and I did MUCH MUCH studying about the subject before I chose....I did have the money to spend at the time as well, and that always helps...But now I am broke, so like I think I said, my N. Lights x Skunk in flower will finish on the current AN 3 part system w/ overdrive now in flowering....the Emerald Jack in veg now (in soil) , will get very very light nutes/ feedings when I do decide how to treat her....may be with AN's stuff, maybe old Miracle Grow, I still hear peeps are getting great results with the stuff! Go figure! lol!

Okay my friends, I have a few questions for you all, cuz I need an answer and i have no one else to ask, you all are my 420 family...
Anyways, here's the problem:
The first harvest I got, from those schwag bag seed plants I grew the first time, only has yielded about 1/2 oz of "sugar shake" and about 3/4ths or 1 oz of little "airy popcorn buds"...and since I had to pick off seeds when they hermied, they lost most of thier THC, so it's all going to be for my medibles...
The PROBLEM is this, I have NEVER cured ANYTHING like this, and I thought I was going to be okay, but it's been a month, and they still have a lot of chlorophyl smell...And I recently read up on planting, curing, etc...and someone said that if you chop and hang your whole plant, you'll force the chlorophyl back into the buds, and that you should chop off the buds and limbs only, then hang them to dry...is this what happened to me you think, I mean w/ the smell? And also, I've smoked some, it's about as good as the brown schwag I have to use now anyways..the vape sure makes shitty stuff come to life, huh? Anyways, I am responsible to a certain degree, because I did it wrong, and also, I am SO BAD w/ my memory and burping those damn jars! I keep them right here next to the bed, and have been trying to remember to "burp" them for about 20 mins at a time for the past month, and I forget a lot...I have surely let them go a day or maybe 2 w/o burping...I feel like that's where I messed up...
What do you all think I should/can do to remove the chlorophyl smell, that's all I care about. But again, remember, I am going to try to make some canna-oil, and canna-butter too, if I can, the oil will be done first, but that's problem #2:
I can't afford to buy a "gold coffee filter", so can I still prepare the oil, but only use the paper style filter to strain it? Or I have a pretty fine, rounded ( about 5" in diameter) strainer that has a long handle...but I have used that to clean my herb, so even tho those holes are pretty small, they still may be too big, but maybe the worst that would happen, would be to have a few green flakes in the butter and oil...That's okay with me, so again, what do you guys think I should do?
I'm afraid the paper filter will capture the THC, but maybe it'll be like "inside" the oil molecules or whatever, and it WOULD work, but there MUSt be a reason that we are told to use the gold one.

OH! PS! Can I post a pic of myself, with my face covered, next to my plant, to show the true size of her, I just can't seem to get a shot that shows that she's actually pretty big...can I do that? And what about my dog? I know it seems "off topic" maybe, and if you all say it is, then I'll respect that. Just let me know, I haven't seen anyone else, even disguised, so I wanted to ask, before I posted a pic...Let me know what you all say I should do/know about that, please, THANK YOU!!

RVG, your girls are looking great & you've certainly come a long way since you started!

I think Xena looks more indica than sativa. If you look at the leaves, they're short & fat where the sativa's leaves are typically more thin & long, but either way, she looks great!

If I had to guess on the ongoing chlorophyl smell, I would say that they were possibly dried too quickly and/or too much before jarring. The humidity needs to be about 60%-65% when they go in the jars, and if you start getting below 55%, the product is too dry to cure.

I have seen people post pics in journals with themselves disguised in some manner, so I don't believe it's a problem, and you can check HERE to make sure.

Glad you're enjoying the vape! I definately find it the most efficient way to ingest along with edibles (edibles are just a PITA to prepare!).

Hello Mr. K! thanks for the advice and encouragement...I'm no dummy, and I've been growing plants and veggies all my life, just never grew cannabis more than a few times and they only got about a foot high..I was so curious to see a plant in person, so I'd throw my seeds out in the dirt, or stick them in the houseplants and forget them, till my wife is yelling my name from across the apt...then I know what she found, little seedlings! Yeah, I didn't use the box when I got the first batch cut, and I live in the high desert...like 11-12% humidity here! Things outside mummify if left out! lol! But seriously, we have NO extra room, only a bathroom I had to use at the time...And I cut the whole plant at once and hung it upside down for like 3 days, and I didn't remove any fans till after the first day or 2 or 3 of drying...I thought that was how I was supposed to go slow....Now I feel like I can't trust my memory...Should i be surprised at that? I'm not......Anyways, I hate to waste all this stuff! Do you think I can still make canna-oil? Or what CAN I do with stuff tats so-so. Like I said, I DID do a smoke report back then, and it does smoke okay, just so very very light, light someone filtered it or something, that's all. I used it in the vape too, and it was a little better of course...thats why I just wanted to get the chlorophyl out, so I don't have that extra taste...But also, what do you do with the herbal material after it's been used in the vape...I keep hearing people swear that we can use it then for canna-products...I don't know WHAT to believe! Everyone's got their own opinion...But I DO trust my friends like you on here...I got that brownie recipe that takes the sugar leafs and I guess I put it into an oven cooking bag, and cook it on low heat for a while, then take it out and let it cool, THEN and ONLY THEN would I be able to open the bag, and I gotta remember what I do next....hmmmmm gotta go get that recipe... I'd rather have canna-oil and butter than just trying to make brownie batches with chewy herb in it...I forgot about those skinny Sativa leaves....what had me feeling that way is that top cola, how it is so spread out, you know the buds, they aren't all long skinny colas like Indicas, Sativas look like they are smaller in length, but have fatter colas on the top or spaced out on their limbs. Do you think I should do a "water cure" on the stuff to remove the smell? Or should I just cook it up in some canna-oil or cana-butter? And do you know about the filter situation? As in whether I can use the paper filter or do I really have to save up 15$ on the 3rd, (if I even GET my check!!! :surrender:)

Hi RVG - Do you have a cheesecloth or something to strain with? I used that last time and it worked really well. It's also pretty cheap. Pantyhose? Nylons? A paper coffee filter would probably work. I just want to be careful to recommend things that I KNOW will work for you, and I've had good luck with a metal coffee filter and cheesecloth for straining. The dollar store near me has flour sacks that would work like cheesecloth.

Mr. Krip had some good theories, and I've also had weed that wasn't burped appropriately taste like hay a bit. Not sure if you have that going on or not. Depending on the moisture, I usually don't have to burp much after the first week or two, but everyone has a different situation when it comes to humidity and drying in general.
