Rifleman's Roost Open 24/7: Perpetually Perplexed

I was getting ready to say mine don't stretch like that when I realized that they do too, but I strap them down and force them horizontal. :laughtwo:

Pistil Patrol complete for this evening. Still no sign of girly parts on 1 or 2. I feel like a dirty old man waiting for the first piece of clothing to drop at a peep show. :biglaugh:

Today is day 26. Still ponytailing 1 & 2. No need with the others as they are starting to stretch, and the bottom branches are way out in the light. :)

Heights are: DD1, DD2 both 5". DD3 IS 7.25", and finally DD4 is 7.75". Daily measurements will continue. I expect them to top out around 26".

Somehow I missed this Mr. McCain. You ponytail the DDAs? At what point do you typically begin this process? I've yet to do that with any of mine. I've been figuring out how to get mine to yield the way arteekay and Jay consistently got their autos to perform in soil.

Huh! I'll have to pay closer attention to the next one up.

My first time doing it Sue. They were stacking nodes so tight that I felt I *had* to do something. Same jitters I get every crop, afraid I won't reap enough for my needs. Never seems to be a problem, but it worries me everytime. :biglaugh:

I can soooo identity. :laughtwo: I'll be jarring up four ounces and calculating how many pans of brownies that makes to assure myself I'll make it. Lol! Haven't been without for over two years now. You'd think I'd let that anxiety go.

That was a lot of years, allowing myself to believe there was so much lack in the universe. If it takes me a few to recover, I can't complain. :battingeyelashes: .

heya friends,,

hey pa,, i am totally looking into dwc ing,, first i had to look up what it meant, then i started reading about it

i have a perpetual system with a veg and flower routine, and i am trying to figure how i can work this dwc into that type of system/routine. maybe not possible,, but,,

maybe i can do some dwc,, but not all,, dunno,, just thinkin about it lots, i could totally see it working with autos, but i dislike purchasing seeds, and have a tonno photo seeds to play with.

it is dealing with a lotto water,, not exactly convenient for me either,, another hurdle is all, i can still jump

anyhow, just curious,, i might look around and see iffin i can put one smallish one together,,

a q please lucas,, for a test tub,, could i use coarse perlite instead of the clay marbles?

cheers friend,,

Hi Nivek,
If you're interested, you can follow my first grow (journal link is in my signature). I'm doing DWC with a C4 Auto and I'm learning as I'm going. Feel free to follow along or ask questions here and if I know the answer I'll be happy to help you out.

Overall so far I'm not finding it to be more work. As a matter of fact, I was surprised how easy my first water change was. I'm using three buckets - one for the grow, one to stand water in for a couple of days to leech out chlorine, etc., and then one is used just as a stand to place my net pot in when I'm switching the first two buckets.

So far I really like that I know exactly what the pH is and how many nutes the plants are actually getting.

I also believe the DWC, in the end, uses a lot less water than soil gardening, so it's also Eco-friendly!! Lol

4oz... makes 6 batches of 16 brownies each. 96 brownies ! :goof:

I used 36 gallons last week between the four girls I have in flower. I've seen perlite used, but not in dwc. Take a look at Tead's journal, he grows in all perlite, but I haven't really explored how he does it. :)

Hey Timmy, go ahead and get yourself at least one more bucket. When she goes into bloom you'll need a bucket to distill top off water, one to distill change day water, and another to sit your plant in when changing water. Note my post above, I used 36 gallons last week for four plants. :)

Water Change day for the Dark Devil Autos. Day 28. Today's feed was 15ml calmag 4-0-0, 15ml m,g,b, and 9ml hydroguard. That puts the nutrient level for each plant between 575 and 600ppm. The smaller ones both used 2.5 qts last week, while the larger ones guzzled a gallon apiece.

DD1 - 5.25" grown 2.25"

DD2 - 5.25" grown 2.25"

DD3 - 8" grown 3.75"

DD4 - 9" grown 4.5"

You lift your plants? I just dunk a pump in through the access hatch and wait until the res runs dry then fill it back up.

Ever tried growing something in a medium just to get rid of the waste water? I've put a couple of runts in soil which will hopefully reduce what I need to carry back down the ladder without adding to what I need to carry up it. It seemed to work OK with a vegging photo but I haven't flowered anything out yet.

I move each plant once a week for the water change. Thought about using the pump but there is just so much particulate matter, bits and pieces of roots, etc. So I dump them, run a paper towel or two through them, and stick the plant back in her home.

Really Kush ? Did you not just see me waste a half dozen Mephisto beans ? I've tried and tried to grow in something other than dwc, but kill them all. I have three in rockwool and airpots now. I don't mention them because I'm killing them too. One of these days when I have eight or ten pounds in storage ahead of my needs I'll devote an entire season to nothing but a soil grow and learning, but not until then. :)

Coming at it from the other end, I wouldn't encourage you to make that choice, unless you were feeling much more curious than someone who rightfully claims lazy gardener status. :laughtwo:

Edit: There's a world of difference between the words "would" and "wouldn't.

I'd like to say I've managed to finish one in soil before I jump out of the boat, but not at the risk of my Lazy Grower status. :biglaugh: Today I hooked the trailer to the tractor and headed off into the fields and orchards. Time for an early season cleanup. I've got enough wood for my smoker for the next year or two...again. Nothing lazy about this old man, but I'm not going to borrow work. :)

Oh yeah... "would and wouldn't"... Wouldn't you like to grow a dwc half pounder?:rofl::rofl:

I was just thinking about this. How interesting that it popped up over here. Tead's been upfront all along that his perlite system is working in his world due to the high humidity levels in the swamplands. I was considering the possibility that my dry atmosphere might not be the perfect environment for perlite-only. AKgramma relented and added vermiculite to hers. I was thinking about maybe trying a mix with the next hempy.

I'm running her to the end anyway, and if she does anything decent in yield and potency I'll be game for another try as is. A small one off to the other side though...... You see how this happens? I start to simplify and the brain looks for more to clutter my life, and then you guys come along and make this stuff look so enticing...... :laughtwo:

Always nice to take a stroll around the roost and see what going on. Lots of catching up for me to do, I only read the last few pages, but it's safe to say... Good Work Rifleman! :thumb:
Those tall ass plants look phenomenonal, they've got such long Colas full of bud. And the dark devils are in a hurry it seems, looking super healthy too. Are those from your stash of seeds you made? Keep up the hard/good work over there, I'll be back sooner than later... I hope:)

KiG Brother :green_heart:Cheers

Perlite to vermiculite 6/1. A little vermiculite goes a long way you don't want to use too much but incorporating a little adds a water-retentive element which supports and encourages root growth throughout the perlite medium. I have found that pure perlite doesn't hold enough moisture generally and so without something more absorbent in the mix you get a compacted root ball and the plant doesn't use the whole medium.

Peace, Hyena

Thank you so much Hyena. :hugs: I'll keep that in mind with the next plant. See what difference that would make. Tonight I noticed mine it looking like a little bonsai tree. :laughtwo: I need to take some pictures.

Ok pa,, i have officially entered the mean green dwc scene,, ha, that was fun,,

Mickey and i,, you know mickey, I thino,, mickey mouse? Well he and dutty and dutty too too helped take a newish clone from soil to dwc ing in straight perlite,

This is a test,, this is only a test,, do not adjust your hearing aids,, this is only a test

There she be tho,, mickey worked overtime on this one,, we managed to get it to here but where it goes next?????? Who the heck knows

Guess I need invest in a ppm meter now,, more gadgets, yippeee

Sue,, last time I asked opinions on adding vermiculite to the perlite, I was advised that that makes the medium too wet,, too dry,, too wet,, a happy medium in there somewhere, ha,, karma sent sue,,
Oh, and rif,, karma sent friend,,
