I was getting ready to say mine don't stretch like that when I realized that they do too, but I strap them down and force them horizontal.

Somehow I missed this Mr. McCain. You ponytail the DDAs? At what point do you typically begin this process? I've yet to do that with any of mine. I've been figuring out how to get mine to yield the way arteekay and Jay consistently got their autos to perform in soil.
Huh! I'll have to pay closer attention to the next one up.
My first time doing it Sue. They were stacking nodes so tight that I felt I *had* to do something. Same jitters I get every crop, afraid I won't reap enough for my needs. Never seems to be a problem, but it worries me everytime.
I can soooo identity. I'll be jarring up four ounces and calculating how many pans of brownies that makes to assure myself I'll make it. Lol! Haven't been without for over two years now. You'd think I'd let that anxiety go.
That was a lot of years, allowing myself to believe there was so much lack in the universe. If it takes me a few to recover, I can't complain. .
heya friends,,
hey pa,, i am totally looking into dwc ing,, first i had to look up what it meant, then i started reading about it
i have a perpetual system with a veg and flower routine, and i am trying to figure how i can work this dwc into that type of system/routine. maybe not possible,, but,,
maybe i can do some dwc,, but not all,, dunno,, just thinkin about it lots, i could totally see it working with autos, but i dislike purchasing seeds, and have a tonno photo seeds to play with.
it is dealing with a lotto water,, not exactly convenient for me either,, another hurdle is all, i can still jump
anyhow, just curious,, i might look around and see iffin i can put one smallish one together,,
a q please lucas,, for a test tub,, could i use coarse perlite instead of the clay marbles?
cheers friend,,
......Overall so far I'm not finding it to be more work. As a matter of fact, I was surprised how easy my first water change was. I'm using three buckets - one for the grow, one to stand water in for a couple of days to leech out chlorine, etc., and then one is used just as a stand to place my net pot in when I'm switching the first two buckets.
Hey Timmy, go ahead and get yourself at least one more bucket. When she goes into bloom you'll need a bucket to distill top off water, one to distill change day water, and another to sit your plant in when changing water. Note my post above, I used 36 gallons last week for four plants.
You lift your plants? I just dunk a pump in through the access hatch and wait until the res runs dry then fill it back up.
Ever tried growing something in a medium just to get rid of the waste water? I've put a couple of runts in soil which will hopefully reduce what I need to carry back down the ladder without adding to what I need to carry up it. It seemed to work OK with a vegging photo but I haven't flowered anything out yet.
I move each plant once a week for the water change. Thought about using the pump but there is just so much particulate matter, bits and pieces of roots, etc. So I dump them, run a paper towel or two through them, and stick the plant back in her home.
Really Kush ? Did you not just see me waste a half dozen Mephisto beans ? I've tried and tried to grow in something other than dwc, but kill them all. I have three in rockwool and airpots now. I don't mention them because I'm killing them too. One of these days when I have eight or ten pounds in storage ahead of my needs I'll devote an entire season to nothing but a soil grow and learning, but not until then.
Coming at it from the other end, I wouldn't encourage you to make that choice, unless you were feeling much more curious than someone who rightfully claims lazy gardener status.
Edit: There's a world of difference between the words "would" and "wouldn't.
I used 36 gallons last week between the four girls I have in flower. I've seen perlite used, but not in dwc. Take a look at Tead's journal, he grows in all perlite, but I haven't really explored how he does it.
I was considering the possibility that my dry atmosphere might not be the perfect environment for perlite-only. AKgramma relented and added vermiculite to hers. I was thinking about maybe trying a mix with the next hempy.
Perlite to vermiculite 6/1. A little vermiculite goes a long way you don't want to use too much but incorporating a little adds a water-retentive element which supports and encourages root growth throughout the perlite medium. I have found that pure perlite doesn't hold enough moisture generally and so without something more absorbent in the mix you get a compacted root ball and the plant doesn't use the whole medium.
