Rifleman's Roost Open 24/7: Perpetually Perplexed

It appears everything I grow foxtails at some point Sue. I don't understand why, my temps and humidity are all within acceptable standards. It doesn't seem to be limited to just sativa, OR indica, instead getting them both and the hybrids I've grown too. Looks kind of cool, dries quicker, fits in a bowl... but I'd still rather they wouldn't. :)

It doesn't matter to me what the cause is, but I always assumed it was an indicator that you were beyond the point of when the plant thought it was done but not yet to the time you choose to harvest. I once heard Pigeons refer to them as a last-ditch effort on the plant to get the pistils waaaay out there in hopes of carrying on the genetic line. Makes a kind of poetic sense to me.

What's not to like about a crispy little, bowl-filling foxtail? Why would you prefer they didn't do that?

I always assumed it was strain driven and a last ditch effort too, but these still have mostly white pistils(day 78) and aren't near as fat as I expected. I'll look at trichomes when the light goes out tonight and see how close they think they are. :) I always feel like there is harvest weight left on the table when a major cola foxtails.

A Day 30 Dark Devil Delight for Friday night !

Plant height is above each photo in the format of "height (growth in last 24 hrs / growth in last seven days)" Enjoy. :)

DD1 - 7" (+1/+3.25)

DD2 - 6.5" (+.75 / +2.75)

DD3 - 10.5" (+1 / +5)

DD4 - 12" (+1.25 / +6)

Edit: #3 & 4 showed sex three days before #1 & 2 and appear to have begun the stretch four days earlier also. 12-28 vs 1-1. I've made a note in my book to check 1 & 2 next Tuesday to see if they are where the other two are now. :)

God Lucas, you make me so proud I could burst! :yahoo:

Which one did you ponytail? #3 has a different structure going on, much more open. The color looks slightly different too, from these pictures. I understand how deceptive photos can be, but I've also grown enough of them myself that I spotted the difference right off.

Gosh, I love accelerated learning. :cheesygrinsmiley: That's one of the things we do really well around here. I can only grow so many, but I can come here and watch you grow more. :battingeyelashes:

:laughtwo: I forgot why I stopped. Lol!

Don't you love that moment about an hour or so after the brownie gets eaten when it slams into you like a locomotive? :slide:

Back to writing. Have a great day Rifleman. :hugs:

They were all ponytailed. Number three just seems to want to spread herself open more. She is a touch lighter green than the others too. There should be some purple within 10 or 12 days if she is going to show it. :)

I often have to watch TV or do something that doesn't involve reading when my brownies kick in. I just can't keep a solid train of thought for more than a few moments. :biglaugh:

What... The... Hell ? Single digits temperatures ! This old man is not a happy camper. It's so cold that Roscoe wouldn't even walk out into the yard this morning. Instead he chose to piss on the leg of my rocking chair.

I'll check back with y'all later. It's water change day in the large tent, and I'm feeling like it might me a sausage, egg, biscuit & gravy kind of morning. :)

I see some bacon and hash browns in my near future.

So, the ph drift issue.... in hempy I shoot for a ph drift configuration. If one peeks at the nutrient uptake charts, one sees that the uptake ranges for hydro fall around 5.8, but some very important bits fall off in that range. We generally increase Cal and Mag for these reasons. One can employ a drift method starting lower and drifting up into an thru various nutrient uptake ranges as the days pass between feedings.
I generally shoot for a starting point of 5.3. I was doing 5.5 for years, but I think 5.3 is doing better in my world. I'm on a 4 days feeding schedule and my PH will drift up to about 5.9 or 6 over the 4 days. Of course, your nutes in your world will be different, but you can test it by setting aside a touch of your mix before you feed a plant and test it's PH over time. You can try testing runoff, but I've really never seen anyone make any sense out of testing hempy runoff.... tho many have tried.

2cents. Probably a repetitive 2cents, but perhaps there are newbs afoot.

It's the repetitive 2 cents I needed you to spout once again, and I'm a bit shocked to see you on my immediate wavelength this morning. To be honest, I gasped when I saw what you'd written. I hadn't gotten the keyboard function pulled up yet to even ask.... Whoa! This may be a relevant day in my part of the cosmos. I better buckle up and plan on extra brownie doses to fine tune reception.

Thank you Tead. I'll check mine. I've been shooting for 5.5, and she seems to be responding. Actually, she's responding very well, considering I dragged her to the edge of existence.

She's starting to take on color, now that she's getting a regular diet of CaliMag. I scared myself with this one. I'm beginning to get excited when I look at her now. :slide:

Dammit! My favorite breakfast and you guys let me sleep in. WTH Lucas??? :laughtwo: At an earlier point in the month, before I spent all excess available funds on this obsessive gardening hobby we get lost in, that would've sent me to the local restaurant. I suppose my potentiated oatmeal will have to do today.

Hmmm...... I have some freezer hash, using Major PITA's method to explore. I have some silk that's 125 thread. Do you guys think that'd make a good sift, or should I invest in some decent screens before I attempt this? I decided it makes more sense in my closed environment to make dry sift hash and convert that to oil for medicinal applications. Waaaay less solvent fumes to contend with, way less time involved, and I can use the leftovers to kick up some brownies. Oooo..... Extra brownies for that moment when I'm feeling dangerously reckless. :slide:

When I worried about pH I would start the dwc reservoir around 5.5 and adjust back down by 6.2-ish.

I can't help with the dry sift, but I'll be all over some brownies once harvest is over and I know I'm not going to run dry.

Since this conversation started here, I wanted to drop this on my way back to my yard. I went looking, like the opportunist I've become, and discovered that Bubbleman did an excellent article in High Times this month on dry-sift hash. He works his nice and slow and gets close to 99% purity. The box he sells runs $250. I can make my own, given the screens. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Think of the medicinal value of 99% purity trichome heads. OMG, this kinda takes my breath away. Artisan oils made from dry-sift materials.

I need another half brownie. I think I'm in shock.

Dark Devil Day 32. For those of you unfamiliar with small reservoir dwc, there comes a time in each grow where you can no longer just ignore your plants for a week at a time. That time has come. :yahoo: As I gave them their daily 90° spin something told me to check water levels. Good thing I did. Since last Wednesday #3 & 4 have grown, and drank like Sailors. The info below is growth and water usage since 1-4-17. I mixed the top off water 3ml/5qt. Odd measurement I know, it's just easier to do full droppers and my plastic jugs are graduated up to six quarts, so sue me. :) It's all seat of my pants anyways.

Y'all be safe starting your work week tomorrow, the world is crazy. :goof:

DD1 - 8" (+2.75") topped with 2.5 quarts

DD2 - 7.5" (+2.25") topped with 4 quarts

DD3 - 12.5" (+4.5") topped with 5 quarts

DD4 - 14.5" (+5.5") topped with 5 quarts

There was a mention in the notes to check the height of DD1 & 2 tonight. They are not where 3 & 4 were four days ago, but not far from it. Mostly they are still bushy where the other two are stretching out into some lanky girls. Lanky girls that are showing a definite purpling among the pistils. :) Water change tomorrow morning so stay tuned for photos and data specifics. :peace:

It's Day 35 for the devil girls. Water change and new nutrient recipe. #3 & 4 are showing purple in the pistil clusters and gaining some good height. Only 55 days left. Data and photo drop is below, click the pics for larger views. Any questions or suggestions?

It's that marvelous 1200watt panel of lights giving you this upper hand. Light drives the grow. You make it look so easy. Damn you anyway, Lucas. Tempting me like this.
