Rex's Perpetual Hydroponics, LED, 4x4 Tent Using TBC 10 Gal System: All Are Welcome, Come Learn & Help

Morning @Rexer! Haven't said hey in a bit, and I was just sitting here smoking some herb (I know, can you believe it?), and I came up with a crazy, but potentially hilarious idea.

You know the famous Honey Badger video, right?

Ok, so dig this: you use your camera thingie that does the timed shots and you put together a nice, maybe two or three minute montage of the growth of some sweet plant. Once you have that, if it's technically possible, you could then narrate or get someone to narrate over top of the video and do a play on the honey badger video!

"Look at all those trichomes......OG Kush (Honey Badger) don't give a shit....look at her sparkling away....etc, etc."

If you know the video you might get what I'm saying. I'm just having fun with you. But that would be hilarious.

Hope this Sunday finds you well!

'Morning Jon!
Busy Morning here for me. Getting the outdoor soil garden planned and started, had to pick up some earth worm castings and some soil. Nothing fancy or expensive.
I'm all ears on a hilarious idea.

I'll be honest..no I don't know it

Thats doable. I manually take the photos through the app and they get saved onto my phone. I decide how long i want the gif to be when creating it.

hmmm id leave the narrative to you lol.

That would be funny as hell. Gave me a good laugh, thank you.

Well Jon. I got something to make you laugh back. I decided since my two photo plants are to be mother plants for clones, to do something a bit different for the training. I borrowed a bit off of a different method for some fun, but it seems to be going as planned :cheesygrinsmiley: .

Here's Selas:

Tell me you're going to wrap those in a coil around the outside of the pot in an expanding coil going up. Please.....
Lol!!!!
In the random photo dumps thread, where I guess you post funny, non-growing related stuff, today I posted my friend's spoof using the same Honey Badger video as the base only the subject is hilarious. Check it out if you like, it's 2 1/2 minutes long. This is exactly what I was suggesting, only with a plant growing and corresponding commentary. Lol. It's a lot funnier if you knew the Honey Badger vid.

Well Jon, it took a bit of work to redirect them- but now both photo plants are bent, and set to coil around their pots :cheesygrinsmiley: .

And I'm quite certain I see pistils on both Selas and Cilla. Actually I know I see pistils on them, two mother plants  .

So, the Blackberry's beauty has been marred by deficiencies. Oh well, at least the progression has stopped. I've kept a close eye on it using the Wayze Cam, checking daily to make sure it stays in check.
Not an easy task this week, as I've been hot topping, and plain RO water topping. The roots pretty much fill most of the buckets, resulting in me having regular over flows when topping up. Between the huge dehumidifier in the cabinet, and the daily wet vacuuming, the over flowing has had very little impact. I'm just not a huge fan of running three plants with such a small volume of nutrients. Lesson learned- stay away from smaller buckets with RDWC.

And the Wappa- she's getting nice and chunky just as expected. Apparently this cultivar is known for nice big colas. I'm glad I've got some more seed for it- as I'd like to hold onto this genetic to incorporate it into my future Heinz 57 strain. She's also got some light purple/pink at the top of her colas, looks quite pretty.

The Gorilla Glue. This auto has been a conundrum for me. I figured she was going to stay sparse and thin, so I didn't pluck as much larf, as she seemed to be struggling. Well, she's been slowly doing her thing, and building her buds up. And has gotten quite thick. The top on some of her colas are just pure trichs, giving a whitish look to the tips.

Nice start to the training with the 2 future mothers! 2 girls out of your 2 reg seeds gotta love those odds!

The flower girls are stacked up nicely especially that Wappa! She should give you a fantastic harvest.

Looking damn great brother Rex!
And I’d say Blackberry isn’t getting enough Ca, or something is blocking the uptake. Hows the Kool Bloom dosage?
And little foxtails…just as my BBK also did.

And the LED looks like its preetty close? Whats the distance? Just curious how you like it the most? Didn’t nextlight recommend something between 18-24"?

Thanks N420! I'm quite happy with their training and stoked their both females. I gave them a feeding last night of some molasses, bokashi, frass that was aerated overnight, and 2g/gallon of MC. Hopefully they'll start to pickup in size soon.

The Wappa is nice and sturdy as well. Its been interesting to see how the stems hold up, since ive added no Si to this grow, and have no net.

Thanks V!

im not raising the Ca higher. The other two are fine, and its already pretty high.
base of 200 ppm of calimagic
plus FloraNova Bloom (was at 700PPM)
Nope, unless the other two show a need, it'll stay as is.
I've learnt that when growing three different strains, keep two plants happy, and I'm happy. :)Especially with the difference these cultivars are showing for feeding differences.
Hows the Kool Bloom dosage?
I've just been adding 1/8 of a teaspoon to 1/2 of the powder with hot top ups. It's strong stuff, and I've had good results using it very lightly.
And little foxtails…just as my BBK also did.
I love those little foxtails!

hella close brother.

It was put into the cabinet in a fixed position. No raising or lowering of it. I've kept the light cranked, as I hooked up an active intake to pull the ice cold temps from outside, it's done fantastic to help keep the light cranked. I've also recently dialed it down, slightly...it's at 376 Watts

Wow Rex look at you go! Damn, what an operation. This is me, jealous. Great update too.

Is humidity higher in DWC with the presence of all the water actually in the tent? Or are the totes/buckets sealed enough that it's just like maintaining normally?

The GG is quite interesting looking and I think everything looks awesome. Lots of buds. Trim jail heaven for you my friend.

Thanks Jon!

It's been fun, and relaxing...I'm refusing to let this grow stress me :laughtwo: (I've got enough stress already lol).

Well, in my bigger setup, with the open hydroton on top being sprayed, I get lots of RH. In a sealed bucket setup like this, I'd argue there's less RH then a soil grow. Especially with me undersizing (purposefully) the net cups. There is zero water exposed....my personal nute leaks and overflows not being counted :laughtwo: .

True dat. Starting to mess around too and much it can turn at the end of the day none of them happy anymore :D

hella close brother.
Cool intake system sounds wise. Take the advantage of the cold weather! I also blow cold air in from outside when I want to lower temps or ez way to lower res water temp quickly.

And hard to tell from here if the tops havin heat stress, that would explain some of the foxtails.

I’ll be setting up the new 4x4 tent prob by the weekend and might move the autos there under the 420led therefore time until the new photos need more space.
Don’t have a Lux meter available right now, so what you reckon what would be the good distance if the seedlings are raised to the height of the tops of other plants after like a week?

Interesting point I hadn't thought about. Multiple strains all happy in soil is easy, all I have to do is adjust light or nutes. To adjust nutes in a multiple strain DWC grow with only one source of nutes is impossible I guess. Unless you add separately just to the bucket of an individual plant, yes? Can you do that?

would be better then run single dwc buckets for each strain if you want to mix own nutes for each plant.

In RDWC you circulate same water for all of the plants. So ye if doing multiple strains using one reservoir then you prob might have to just adapt.

Exactly, and I'd rather not make things worse. And I also think the deficency has been corrected- but the damage was done. Always hard to tell once it starts cascading and becomes a chronic deficiency, but the camera helps.

And at the end of the day its medicine; if growing my medicine causes more stress then it relieves, its time to reevaluate.
We always strive for perfection, as we should, but learning contentment is something I've been working on.

Might as well! I'll be paying for the cold air soon enough (summer).
And of course, after writing and posting that, I noticed it's beautiful outside and the snow is melting .
And hard to tell from here if the tops havin heat stress, that would explain some of the foxtails.
The foxtails wouldn't be from high heat. They never get near warm enough...but light stress (which is what I think you meant) is a real possibility. But it could be genetic too, if you say your had them on yours as well.

:high-five: :yahoo:

I've never used it but the Phototone app has been used by many on here (as suggested by N420 below)
Interesting point I hadn't thought about. Multiple strains all happy in soil is easy, all I have to do is adjust light or nutes.
Yup, that's one reason all my Photoperiod mother plants will be in soil, simplicity. Though i think i may pop another photo bean, for variety...i wont be ordering the clones soon...budgets and all:rolleyes:
To adjust nutes in a multiple strain DWC grow with only one source of nutes is impossible I guess.
Far from impossible Jon. And with DWC being basically (but not always) one plant per reservoir, its easier to fine tune to each plant. It also adds to the daily workload though, as each bucket needs top ups, and ph balancing individually. Hence the allure of RDWC, where the sky (or res size) is the limit on plants feeding from one reservoir.
Unless you add separately just to the bucket of an individual plant, yes? Can you do that?
In my system- there'd be no point. In a DWC absolutely, and is the only way to do it.
My system, it all circulates passively via tubing at the bottom..so anything added to one bucket becomes diluted into all the buckets.

Get the Photone app if you have an I phone, it works great!
:thanks: I always forget the name

Wait whaaat? What app? Yes I’m the apple man!

Srsly how can an I phone work as a lux meter?
I’d like to know the name of the app, if you mind tellin that

You just got me speechless. Actually had to take a moment to think about that. That is so true.

Might as well! I'll be paying for the cold air soon enough (summer).

Hahah innit  what would be the summer without new AC machine or dehumidifier…Or an idea at least about it.

Wait whaaat? What app? Yes I’m the apple man!
The name of the app is "Photone". That's all I know on it, but Jon and N420, I believe have played around with it.

Yeah I've been rather introspective lately- it was more self directed than anything...but truthfully it is something I think a lot of us (people) have lost over the last few generations. And as I get older, I've begun to look at things a but differently. Thinking I was dying a few years back really changed me, and how I view certain things.
Hahah innit  what would be the summer without new AC machine or dehumidifier…Or an idea at least about it.
Hehe I just bought a new dehumidifier, it's in the cabinet right now. It's rated for 800 square feet....should be good eh? :laughtwo:
I've already got a portable AC dedicated for the summer grows. Though once the grow rooms are built, I may switch to a window style one (better energy efficiency).

I was sceptical myself when I first learned about it because I know other apps that have not been reliable at all.

Found the app from watching the Migro you tube channel, He really knows his stuff when it comes to lights!

I’ve been using for about a year, it’s helped immensely when it comes to getting the light intensity dialed in.

Just downloaded the app and looks pretty accurate!
LOL feels like I’m getting old ”how in the earth you can use a phone as a lux meter” :laughtwo:
The guy on the video advices to use a small piece of thin copy paper on top of the front cam. Tried two different paper thickness. Should I use the paper on top of the cam or wut? :D

Right on I’m glad your trying out the app!
I know I never thought I would see the day when using a phone in place of an expensive quantum sensor would be a thing but I’m glad we are here.

Yes use the paper, the app will actually prompt you to use a diffuser when you open it to take a reading. Just normal white printer paper is all you need.
