Rex's Perpetual Hydroponics, LED, 4x4 Tent Using TBC 10 Gal System: All Are Welcome, Come Learn & Help

Well, I love NL so it's hard not to say go
for it. But GG has been on my "want to try" list for some time now. If you can get Gorilla glue #4 that's the one you really want, I couldn't get hold of any, hence it's GG#1 auto for me.
My local seed bank owner has this: The very original ”original glue” aka gorilla glue #4.

100% certified Original Glue (GG4) fka Gorilla Glue 4 developed by GG Strains, the most seeked after strain of the 21th century, GG4 is a potent hybrid strain that delivers heavy-handed euphoria and relaxation, leaving you feeling “glued” to the couch, her chunky, resin-covered buds fill the room with pungent earthy & sour aromas inherited from its parent strains, Chem’s Sister, Sour Dubb, and Chocolate Diesel.
From what I googl’d thats the real gg#4 right there and autos available as well.

Also the strain got me sooo interested now :Rasta: Started to wonder have I ever smoked the real glue gluee because all that mad_buddha high couch lock while your head does back flips in reverse and u just feelin euphoric.

Not that I’d buy all that, but the sales talks got me big time.

I think NL can get quite big from what I remember, so keep that in mind!
Indeed! And the space is a small challenge for me as you maybe may have noticed. And about that, haven’t seen you around in a minute.
Everything cool in your world? :Namaste:

I'd give that a go, from what I've heard it's something awesome.

Indeed I did remember and that's why I mentioned it, probably wouldn't be an issue is Photoperiod, but an auto NL in a small space would be a challenge.

I've been following along, though some of the science stuff is hard for me -don't matter how hard I try.

Sorry however for being quiet.
I've just been exhausted, and a bit under the weather (not covid!). Aches and pains, ups and downs are sadly part of my normal. And when they hit, my memory, which is spotty already, just gets worse, and I do ocassionally loose track of journals. The winter weather certainly doesn't help.

Thats true photos size are much easier to control. I’ll be most likely main-lining/manifolding the next strain(s) GG or NL, even if theyre autos.
I have Tangerine dream auto in the closet growing for the second week already. Plant is in DIY 1 gallon mini DWC and Ive planned to do first main-lining experiments with her. :)
Gotta make a new journal when got enough time. Her first pruning operation could be done after couple days!

I totally get it. Cannabis can be grown very well just using common sense and some people might actually get annoyed by all the numbers and science stuff. :sorry:

No problem brother at all. And belive, I feel you. Been in faint condition for past ~two weeks.
Feelin so exhausted and tired all the time. And this shitty winter weather really doesn’t lift my mind.

Hope you get better soon Rex! Theres shit cold in Canada as well? Remember the blankets and wool socks. Get comfy and stay medicated:hugs:

I hope you start to feel better soon Rex! :hugs:
Thanks Shed, getting there. I'm at the point now where I gotta figure out what's from the bug, and what's just my medical conditions :laughtwo:. Sounds odd, but my condition can change dramatically fast- from good to bad, and back quickly sometimes. Other times it's holdover till the docs reset everything.

I'm watching that one closely. Tag me if you see I haven't been around :laughtwo:, I really wanna see that play out using that size bucket, gives me some ideas for next winters fun.

Cold as can be, -40C out there. I'll have to get in line to "borrow" Mrs Rex's heating blanket

So, the Wappa Autoflower has popped and is just about out. I peeked into the other rapid rooters, the Gorilla glue auto has cracked and should appear tomorrow. The AK-47 reg...no signs of life. I've put a 2nd into a rapid rooter. Hopefully one will Crack open!!!

Woohoo :woohoo: fresh beans.
Hope you are well Mucker. ;)

Hehe I also wanted to test something fun and see how well it actually works. So far it has been superb ez. When theres only about 2 liters of solution - nutrients and pH down buffers keeps the pH steady 5.8 over 24hrs.
When she starts to drink bigger amounts daily like 1-3L, I might change her into 10L ~2.5gallon bucket if problem occurs with the res water capacity.
Also I’m really into this hydro thing and as mentioned earlier having very limited growing space, so whats better than mini DWC :D

Wappa life, wohoo :woohoo: hope you get a smooth and flying start with the seedlings. Theyre the real pain in the ass if they struggle.

Also do I remember right that this was a cabinet growth? If so, have you done any adjustments? For air venting for example?

Edit:

Oh didn’t see this one! Holy shit -40C u kiddin me? Ik it can get cold in Canada, but -40???
Yup definitely and u gotta buy like XXXL heat mats from your hydrostore

Hey Bill! Aside from the nasty cold out there I'm feeling slightly better today.

Hope you and Stacey are doing well, say hi for us!

And yes sir, it feels great having some seedlings on the go again. Now if only my third strain selection would cooperate....

sounds like a great Idea! And something similar to what I've done here. Those kitty litter buckets I think are 3.5 gallon. I just plumbed in a large auto top up reservoir. It'll hold RO water at 5.8 for the beginning, and later if need be I can switch it to a "hot" top up system with nutes already mixed in it. Hopefully it won't come to the that.

I remember smoking some Wappa a few years back, was great stuff but had such a terrible cure to it, I'd love to try it myself.
Also do I remember right that this was a cabinet growth? If so, have you done any adjustments? For air venting for example?

Edit:
Yup, it's in the cabinet, which is inside the house for the winter. So this will be a confined space grow.

Yeah it's been hitting -40 with the windchill in the evenings. It's giving the furnace a good workout! Makes me wish j was someplace warm like @Jon

Clever me put the cabinet in my den. So...I gotta keep it toasty warm in there....for the seedlings sake :cheesygrinsmiley:

Journal Update

So two out of three beans have popped. I'm suspecting I got hooked up with some really old regular beans:rolleyes: as they won't pop. I've since put two more in rapid rooters and will keep doing so till one pops, or I run out. Then something else will go in.

This was them last night.

And today
20220115_191856.jpg

I'll work on getting the RH up in there today. And that's it for today's short update! Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Yup, it's in the cabinet, which is inside the house for the winter. So this will be a confined space grow.
Do you have an intake and/or outake fan(s) built in the closet? Or you just keeping the door open/closed?

Clever me put the cabinet in my den. So...I gotta keep it toasty warm in there....for the seedlings sake :cheesygrinsmiley:
Put the beans on a warm surface! And I did read that the ”natural” white color temp 4000K (this is usually the color temp with normal LED and halogen bulbs) promotes germination as well.

And have you dip’d the beans in glass of water? Does the reg seeds whether go straight to the bottom or float?

Congrats on the first 2 beans popping and here’s hoping the 3rd one pops it’s little head out too!
Thanks N420!
The first two had roots showing through the rapid rooter within a day of popping. I've got around 5 or 6 more of the regs....one will pop, hopefully :laughtwo:

Right now I just popped a 4 inch inch exhaust fan hooked up to an Inkbird. Passive intake at the moment.
I have plenty of options for the ventilation. The cabinet has 4, 4 inch holes (one is being used by pipes for water/nutes).
The cabinet is also fully insulated. It's made with 1/2 plywood, then 1inch Styrofoam, then 1/2 plywood.
I've got plenty of fans that can be hooked up as needed.

The door is actually kinda neat. I had some fun with making it. There is no handle. And it stays locked. The only way to open it is with an RF remote I hooked up, which unlocks the cabinet. I actually had a 46 inch LED TV mounted on the door at one point.

I agree to the first- warm temperatures is key. But wholeheartedly disagree with light. Light should not be touching the seed in germination.
remember all we're doing is re-creating the spring time soil environment. There is zero light below the soil. Roots hate light as well. I'll explain my process below.
And have you dip’d the beans in glass of water? Does the reg seeds whether go straight to the bottom or float?
I used to do the float in water. But I've noticed after a few tries that I've actually had just as good, if not better sucess with a much simpler method.

Presoak a rapid rooter. I presoak in 5.8 PH, 60PPM or so of cal mag. And some root builder (hydroguard, or any other baccullis solution).

Drop the seed into the rooter.
Keep it moist and warm. Don't cook them, but a nice 27C or so seems to work.
The rapid rooter will only hold so much moisture prior to shedding the excess. Which is why I love them vs rockwool.
Keep dropping some water ever 4 or 6 hours for a good soak onto the rooter.

That's it. I hit them with light from a led (full spectrum, 40 dollar special from the Zon) the instant they pop above the rooter. Roots will show from the bottom of the Rooter within a day.
Then their into seedling care in the final pot.

Fingers crossed for ya on those regs! That’s something I’ve never tried growing is regular seeds but they definitely are intriguing, in fact there is a certain breeder I’ve been wanting to try that only has regs and I’m thinking more and more I want to try them.

That cabinet sounds pretty cool and well built! The door sounds especially neat with the door that can be unlocked with a remote!

I’m with you warm and dark. When my seedlings do pop out I use a 135 watt 4000k led dimmed all the way down and slowly increase the intensity as they get bigger. 4000k keeps those nodes nice and compact!

I still do the water soak and the paper towel method to pop beans, it’s always worked old habits die hard!

Rapid rooters are what I always used when I did Dwc, they held the perfect amount of moisture and I had great success using them.

RR's worked great for me vs rockwool. I pooched two sets of seeds last year then switched to RR's and it was smooth sailing after that.

If you have a good lead on Regs I say go for it! Have a little fun, make your own lil crosses, saves money and you can possibly make something rather special.
Sounds like we do the same methods, but I have to say the paper towel method was what I started with, but I would always damage the odd one that would entangle in the paper towel.
That does not surprise me one bit. :)

Hey Delps! Yup Rapid rooter for the win everytime for me....except these, though I blame the beans. I'm about ready to drop some more tomorrow lol

Thanks Baron!
Long time lurker. I just wanted to say I’ve read through quite a bit of your literature, I’ve learned a great great deal of information and always eager to learn more. Thanks for the good reads!
Hey @Venturisix ! Welcome to my journal and :thanks:, that made me smile and I'm glad you've enjoyed it! The winter grow(s) are kinda like intermission from the main show!

Feel free to ask any questions, or chime in as youd like, drop pictures or what not. There's plenty of great folks whom are even more knowledgeable, who can answer if I can't!

I know nothing about hydro. Can I tag along?

Congrats on the fresh beans popping.
Hey Stinker!!!

Welcome to my perpetual journal! Happy to have you here brother!

Feel free to ask anything! Kick back and relax the winter fun is going to be more of a relaxed grow, with things ramping up come spring time!

But wholeheartedly disagree with light. Light should not be touching the seed in germination.

Oh no no brother, you got me wrong :D
I meant give the light for the lil seedling that has emerged already.
Like as you probably already know that different color temperatures promote plant growth in certain ways, for example blue light 5000-6500K promotes more foliar/green growth. And more warm red spectrum 2100-3000K promotes flower growth etc. So I read 4000K promotes root growth, and young seedling with robust root system = more happier seedling. :)

Well now that does make more sense, and is how I should have read it!

I actually have some 4000K and I'm not sure on the other color :nomo: T5s that I used to use. I used the T5s for everything from seedlings, to lettuce, to cucumbers ...and that's where I picked up on using those spectrums.
But that cheap little LED just always seems to do a incredible job that I just disconnected the T5s. Their still in place, but will probably stay disconnected for the foreseeable future.

It'll be interesting to see how they do under the 420h from NextLight from such a young age.
