Rex's Hydro Grow: Somango Auto & Super Skunk Auto: Drop In & Learn Or Help With Some Easy Hydroponics

Hydroguard while legendary, is too expensive up here, but I might buy some orca. The great white, while not advertised as such can be used in hydroponics in place of hydroguard.
You're absolutely right, they both have Bacillus amyloliquefaciens which is essentially the key ingredient in Hydoguard.

I love Great White too :high-five: - it works magic on roots! I don't grow without it!

It is expensive, you're right. I do hate how expensive some of these products are. I have to say though, there is something in Hydroguard which does work better for curing Root Rot, or at least in my experience. It totally sorted a case of Root rot that I had once, even Great White couldn't fix it.

I'd just moved my veg in, I hadn't set my chiller properly - during a heat wave of all times, ffs, and my res temp was allowed to hit up to 86f  .
My ladies went from perfectly healthy to "Shit i'm going to have to bin these" in about a week. I was devastated.
The bottom leaves is where it started and how i noticed it, they started to change colour, curl, go orange/yellow/brown and eventually crisp at the tips, and it was moving fast. It had caught on to all 4 ladies too. The smell of the roots was unmistakable - root rot for sure. FML! I tried everything, including sterilising everything, and nothing was working. Hydroguard was a last ditch attempt to fix things before i binned them. After 24hours - I shit you not - 24 HOURS - of feeding it, the canopy came to life once again. And fresh new roots had started to burst from the old orange stinky ones.

I have no affiliation to them, I'm just a guy who nearly had to throw 4 beautiful plants and 6 weeks in the bin. Hydroguard saved the day.

If you ever find yourself with this problem @Rexer, you let me know mate, i'll send you a little bottle in the mail :happy-birthday:
This cabinet is fully insulated, and may be converted into a dry/cure or secure storage for my stash.
That cabinet is absolutely quality! :bravo: Very impressed with that. And the TV on the front - love the misdirection :laughtwo: Using it for drying is a great shout too, especially if you can regulate temp/rh :circle-of-love: That's the dream! You're gonna have so much fun with more space. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Take your DIY skills and build on them. Building your own grow room will be much more gratifying for you long term. Plus, the zips don’t break
Very good points! I'm thinking I might do that, new place has no neighbors near by :yahoo: Might dip my hand into trying to grow 4 outdoor plants as well next summer. :Rasta:

Thanks, using it to dry in winter I can bring it to about 10C inside the cabinet, at that point i use the Inkbird humidstat to keep it within what RH I want.

The hydroguard around here is $118 per quart, so I think I'll give the orca a try or order another lil bottle of great white. For now though I dropped 18ml of 29% h202 into the res.

The way it's designed inside of the cabinet with the flood tables only allows for a few inches (about 3) between the closed door, and the table for top/bottom cabinet airflow. This keeps the res and the bottom at a wonderful 19C on average, or to whatever i set my bottom Inkbird to. The 3/4 inch plywood lids keeps it roughly 5C cooler temp for the roots from canopy when running at 24-30ish C (at canopy temp).

Journal update!

New roots are always exciting, right?
:green_heart:
Your gifs are :headbanger:..great!
Thank you brother that they are! I do believe they're gonna start some rapid growth soon :high-five:

I love using the gifs to quickly see how they're doing

Wow that is ridiculously expensive! £75 here for a gallon!

Are you using h202 and great white together? h202 will blitz any bennies in your res

Nah I'm out GW right now, but have a brand new bottle of H202 handy (I use it in my kratky grows outside in summer).

Actually i should say: When I first transplanted them into the cabinet the roots were given some Great White to help with any shock (seems to do them good anyways). After that I ran out and began to use the h202.

Never use h202 with beneficial bacteria at the same time, it's counter productive that's for sure.

Pardon this Rexer maybe it was mentioned before because I’m one-eyed after rough night but across the border isnt there a product called Z7 or Z9 but it’s same as hydroguard? They can’t ship certain products because of trade rules and tariffs etc. so they are rebranded or whatevs. Anywho maybe sniff around giggle or the zon looking for better pricing. I know I snagged a gallon of MSA silica for like 70 bucks when it’s normally $35 a quart

Hey @013 thanks for dropping by and reminding me of that. Yes you can get that here, but it too is a bit more then the orca. I don't remember the product, but old Smokey had an enzyme product that basically took out hos entire grow. Since reading of his experience, I'm a bit leery on those products. I should research it some more and make a choice, thank you again for reminding me. Im in the process of a planning a move and dealing with realtor, lawyer, brokers, etc my mind is in a 100 different directions.

Break time, didn't open the cabinet yet today but the girls look happy!

Found ya. Looks like they are just about to take off.

Love that cabinet. I’m in for the grow
MCRIB IS BACK!!!!!

Glad you made your way over! This one was unintentionally poorly timed, but amazing things coming! New move, no more renting. Plenty of space with no close neighbors!

I smell an outdoor hydroponic grow coming!!!

Gonna try and see if I can finish this one quickly, so I'll have to prune a lil less, keep stress levels lower.

Day 28
Cabinet temp: 27.0
Cabinet RH%: 23-34%
Root temp Avg: 18.5C
Previous PPM: 357 (yesterday)
Current upon PPM: 356
Adjusted PPM to: 356 (not adjusted)
PH: 6.1 been rising very slowly

Noticed a bit of a mag deficiency started on the SuperSkunk. But I'm overdue on a res change. I'll get one done tomorrow hopefully.

Here's 4 days of growth.

Looking good, you’re going to knock it out of the park with a larger grow space. Congrats on getting a new place!
Thank you! I'm so excited, and still cant believe that it's actually finally happening. Can't wait to be all setup in the New place! I'll probably do another cabinet grow once i get there (or quickly reassemble the cabinet and finish this one). It'll give me plenty of time to prep for a spring/summer grow...well I'll have an indoor and outdoor grow going hopefully next summer.
And hopefully as a result of all this I'll achieve the dream goal of not having to order my meds from over charging LPs anymore. I'm already partially there!

Day 29
Cabinet temp: 27.4
Cabinet RH%: 23-34%?
Root temp Avg: 18.28C
Previous PPM: 358 (pre res change)
Current PPM: 327
Adjusted PPM to: 327
PH: 5.7
Res temp: 18.6C

Res change finally done, just 4 days late. I tend to change it once every 7 or so days, I think this is the longest I've gone without changing the nutes. SuperSkunk deficiencyis showing a bit more, and the bottom tips on the Somango are looking like they got a bit of nute burn.

So I've been asked about my MC weight, I used the kitchen scale (doesn't have decimals) to check the amount I'm using.
I used approximately 31 grams of MC to get to my target PPM. I say approximate as I added a bit too much and had to dilute it. Res tank holds 64L (28 gallons) full. There is 24~25 gallons in there as I don't fill to the top. Not sure if that helps :hmmmm: :smokin2:

Oh man, your roots look much more fluffy than mine...more 'side roots'.

Congrats on moving with plants. I've lost some nice house plants to moves :< Yours look happy as can be.
Thank you! We haven't moved just yet, won't be for a bit, another month or so, it'll be "interesting " to get it done.
The scramble was trying to arrange buying a house, it's been a dream and goal for many years and to be honest i didn't think it'd happen for many many more years. Getting a viewing, arranging contractors and inspections all during covid was a nightmare. There is a housing shortage here, it was miracles on top of miracles that the deals were done. Now we wait. Then the fun starts :high-five: :yahoo:
