Rex's Hydro Grow: Somango Auto & Super Skunk Auto: Drop In & Learn Or Help With Some Easy Hydroponics

Journal update!

Day 16 Veg
Cabinet temp: 28.2C
Cabinet RH%: 18-43%
Root temp Avg: 19.78C
Previous PPM:313
Current PPM: 310
Adjusted PPM: 310
PH: 6.1 not adjusted
Res temp: 19.7C

So the bump in temp, humidity and dilution of the nutes yesterday has pleased the girls. I'm happy with the temps for their age and current PPM their feeding at. Color seems a bit light, but I'm not worried yet.

This shows the changes in last 24ish hours. This is where having a cheap cam watching the plants is neat.

Day 17
Cabinet temp: 27.2C
Cabinet RH%: 23-43%
Root temp Avg: 19.25C
Previous PPM:310
Current PPM: 319
Adjusted PPM: 314
PH: 5.8 (adjusted, was 6.6)
Res temp: 18.9C

Completed a res change today. Added MC till target PPM achieved....with the help of a blender. 25ML of H202 added. I also added 3ml of Cal-mag to the res. I think the Somango is hungry, and the SuperSkunk is at maximum concentration (any more and she'll get nute burn). By lowering the MC slightly, and giving just a bit of calmag I'm hoping I'll find the happy medium/compromise. Soon I'll bump the MC back up, and won't add any more cal mag....well hopefully, that's the plan at the moment.

curious to see how this plays out ..I‘m not a fan of MC in soil ...(without recharge and Cali mag ...not to mention supplemental bloom nutes ) I can’t even imagine using it in hydro ...good luck !

Looking good

Thanks!

I actually used it for half a grow already. I don't expect it to have zero issues, but I do expect it will get them fairly nice. I've got other nutes I could use...

ideally for supplement of cal mag with MC, using a cal mag supplement with zero N is the best IMO. I don't have that one at the moment (it's on that ever expanding Wish List of mine).

We'll see how it goes, I have plenty of other nutes I could swap over to, but I'm curious to see how this goes from a start to finish as well. :passitleft:

So far as a powdered nute, the Maxi Series is a great buy...im curious also on how this compares to the GH Maxi Series which was getting hard to find (or was when I bought the MC bag). You could go from start to finish with just the maxibloom if you really want to.

I hear that !
Sadly before I knew better I bought everything that popped up in an Amazon search and or whatever the local shop had in stock haha

Each plant is so different - I’m one of the weird ones that sits with the plants to see what up and I like to have plenty of options on hand just in case :)

Nah if sittin with your plants makes you weird, then I'm guilty as well. I can't wait to get more grow space, my version is more like leaning into the cabinet.

For options In the cupboard I've got: GH micro, GH Bloom, GH liquid koolbloom, GH cal mag, GH floranova bloom, GH Maxi (Gro & bloom), H202 (29%), Terpinator, Mega Crop, GH powdered koolbloom, GH Diamond nectar, Rhino Skin, Cyco PH up/down, unsulphered molasses and Epsom salt. Not as many as a lot of other growers, but gives me plenty of options!

How do you like terpinator? I mean I want to eventually start trying other supplements/nutes and was thinking of getting terpinator first

Terpinator is one of those products that is recommend. I bought it after seeing other experienced growers were using it, and it will be used each grow (I think I forgot to mention I will be using it this grow starting when the autos show first signs of flowering).

Running the trio as you are, Diamond nectar and a silica supplement would be good additions.

Journal update!!

So, it's been quite the rollercoaster of a few days. I may even have to prematurely clip my crop. I will have to move in the next few months, it'll be a tight squeeze time wise. I'll keep them going as long as I can! (Though with everything to do it'll be hard).

Yesterday I only had about 2 min to spare and just adjusted the PH from 6.5 to 5.8

They seem to have reacted and liked the drop in MC and addition of cal mag.

This morning the water level was down, PH 6.6, and PPM 321. This is quite the rise, possibly I need to check the calibration on my PH pen. Another to do added to the list. I may also try a bump in the MC, any thoughts?
For now I lowered down to 302 PPM.

How many grams per gallon MC are you running? They look hungry.
Been running based upon PPM, gotta buy a new scale lol.

Another to do :hmmmm:

So, a bump it is as I agree they look hungry, just the PPM rise gave me pause on the bump.

Happy to have you! Pull up a chair, & twist one up
:passitleft:

Ps- that purple paranoia looks wicked. What are you running equipment wise if you don't mind my asking?
Simple dwc. 45lm active aqua pump 4 buckets 2 in flower two in veg. 3.5 gal buckets for veg and 5 gal for flower.

Fair play @Rexer. This is a cool and interesting setup! Love the creativity :high-five:

I thought I’d share an experience with you if you would welcome it :peace:

When I first started out I went straight to DWC. I started my seeds in clay pebbles too and that’s where they stayed until harvest. I soon moved away from starting seeds in pebbles. Mainly because it’s not a very nice environment for young roots to thrive. So, I moved to Rockwool cubes, which worked quite well. They provided a more attractive environment for roots to thrive, and it was also easier to administer bennies. From there I went to hydroton in 5" pots, and hand watered until the roots came out, which usually took about a week.

Now though, I start in small Rockwool or Root riot cubes and go straight to coco as soon as roots show. From there I go to net pots (and i use an aero clones for clones so those go straight into coco, no rockwool).

Doing it this way, I found it easier to keep the root zone of the younglings nice and warm, so to build a strong root base from the off. I go to a very small pot once they’re in rockwool and after a week or so the roots look like this:

Then i move them to 1.5L pots where they stay another couple of weeks, before moving to net pots. After a few days i end up with this:

This method, combined with Plant Success Great white + some carbs and the roots explode. Once in the system i use Hydroguard - that stuff is fricking amazing!

It’s just personal preference. For me, the aim is to create the strongest, healthiest root system i possibly can. If the roots are happy, the canopy will be. You're doing a great job already - I just thought I would share in case you find anything of value.

Keep up the good work mate :thumb::snowboating::tommy:

@GoogleGenie

Thank you for taking the time to write that up! I always love feedback!

The cabinet is actually the first solid thing I've ever built lol

So it seems like there is a general consensus that starting seeds directly on the hydroton/pebbles results in less abundant roots.

I've had soso luck with rockwool, but I'll revisit it moving forward. And I'll also give rapid rooters a go.

I'm a newer grower and I'd be dumb to ignore the experience or freely offered advice. Especially the same offered twice.

For the cabinet, I can actually put some controls in place to keep the roots at their own controlled temp.

Hydroguard while legendary, is too expensive up here, but I might buy some orca. The great white, while not advertised as such can be used in hydroponics in place of hydroguard.

The good news is its confirmed I am moving, and my grow will be evolving into a much better and less cramped space. That being said, I'll have to decide on grow room vs grow tent. Like I said, much more space:headbanger:

This cabinet is fully insulated, and may be converted into a dry/cure or secure storage for my stash.
