Rex's Hydro Grow: Somango Auto & Super Skunk Auto: Drop In & Learn Or Help With Some Easy Hydroponics

Hey Rex congrats on your xmas news - the tent not the :rip: seedling.
4x8 is a decent footprint for a garden. I look forward to seeing you pull pounds out of it.
:peace::green_heart:
Thank you! I will defiantly be leaning on and asking for help! I will also be doing it the way that has been suggested (rapid rooters into rockwool). I think I will be following and attempting to replicate something akin to Hyena' s system that he shared. I highly doubt I will have results like his, but at least I know then I will be properly setup. For now I just have to bide my time for a few months and make due with my little grow cab. I'll take this time to plan for what I need, and hopefully find out how much of a limit the budget will be (though I was told a few thousand most likely). Didn't press, as i was just too grateful.

It's going to be nice to grow in a larger space, I can't wait!!

Quick update:

Day 11 since sprouting
Cabinet temp: 28C
Cabinet RH%: 14-32%
Root temp: TBA (sensor not hooked up yet)
Previous PPM:290
Current PPM: 308 (added MC to raise)
PH: 6.3 adjusted to 5.5

RH is lowered whenever the cooling fan kicks on. The SuperSkunk is rather unhappy about it, but I have a humidifier running, and a towel soaked with a fan facing it. Not much more I can do about it.

Journal update!

Day 12 since sprouting a res change was done.
Res topped up with MC to a target PPM of 300
Ph adjusted down to 5.8
21ML of H202 added.

Day 13 since sprouting
Cabinet temp: 28C
Cabinet RH%: 20-42%
Root temp: TBA (sensor now hooked up, collecting data for averages)
Previous PPM:300
Current PPM: 295
Adjusted PPM: 311 (added MC to raise)
PH: 6.3 adjusted to 5.9
Res temp: 18C
The Somango is as happy as can be still. The SuperSkunk is still unhappy with the RH.

Onto more unfortunate news. My exhaust fan bit the bullet. Made a racket that sounded terrible then when restarting to exhaust, it would struggle to start spinning, thus I figured it was a fire hazard and unplugged it. I moved a 4 inch fan (plugged into the thermostat) and Jerry rigged it to dump the exhaust into the lung room till i can replace the larger fan. Not ideal, but since they're seedlings it will do for a week or two.

Boing! Is that sensor in the top photo an ink bird?
Hey copperrein!

Yes it is. I have 4 inkbirds in there:

1 thermostat Inkbird for heating/cooling that's Wi-Fi enabled. This controls the intake and exhaust (both hooked up to the cooling plug). Sensor is at canopy.

1 Inkbird humidity controller for my humidifier and later a dehumidifier. Sensor is at canopy.

1 Inkbird thermostat (heating option only) operating a heating pad against my res, sensor for it in the res. It keeps it from getting below 18C.

1 Inkbird cheap Bluetooth sensor that monitors my root zone temp.

Sounds like an inline squirrel cage fan? If you can get into it you may be able to fix it. I had to tear our AC apart this summer and MacGuyver a couple of the blades back on.

Dumb question: do I need an exhaust fan if my tent never gets over 90f and stays pretty dry? I'm having trouble keeping it warm enough I think. Right now it's only 70f

Yeah it's an 8inch inline VshitSun fan. They're cheap on the Zon. I wanted to upgrade it anyways to a A.c. infinity fan.
I'm not shy on tearing something apart to fix it, too often people just toss things instead of fixing it these days.

There is no such thing as a dumb question, save for those that remain unasked. :high-five:

Personally I'd say absolutely. Especially before flowering. If smells are a concern, an inline charcoal filter can be attached to eliminate exhausted odors.
I prefer exhausting outside to prevent any chance of mould developing in the house. Because i have a lot of bends in my 4 inch exhaust ducting, i use an 8 inch fan (with a speed controller) reduced eventually to 4 inch ducting. This gives me the needed torque to push the air (and it's overkill lol).

Day 14 since sprouting
Cabinet temp: 25C
Cabinet RH%: 30-42%
Root temp: TBA (sensor now hooked up, collecting data for averages)
Previous PPM:311
Current PPM: 318
Adjusted PPM: 318 (not adjusted)
PH: 6.3 adjusted to 5.4
Res temp: 17.8C

I noticed a slight amount of growth on the SuperSkunk, so that's a positive sign. She'll eventually come around. The somango looks as happy as can be doing her thing.
