An annual plant will start to die off once flowering begins, and I've always assumed it's from the outside in... Perennials the flowers/fruit will die on the plant, leaving the plant healthy and ready for next season....
It IS interesting. Plenty of MJ growers who cut and hang the whole plant at harvest. Or just branches at a time. How else can it be done? You want the stuff dry. I've seen a few who do the whole root system upside down for a week in the initial drying but once it's cut/pruned/boiled, it's all over for any root activity contributing anything to the buds...
The last week has GOT to be part of the process, no matter what. It's just what the plant does. I'm thinking now that maybe the old boiling water might be a goer..
Final flush, week of ripening/drying, the BAM! Boiling water to kill the activity and shock the plant into finishing up whatever it's doing...????
I'm thinking in that last week or 2, there's really not much happening root-side anyway. It's all over by then, and the plant is already dying. The flowers are also starting to deteriorate by harvest (depending how early or late that is, of course) technically anyway.
Is there a Botanist or a Biologist in the house??
Looks like a little boxing glove punching out of the soil. Good stuff mate..
I treat it like micro surgery when you take them off. Then sometimes you'll have a birth sack too. Roll them off like a condom.

After running hydro I do know they stop taking up nutrients when they start to finish up and only drink a little water, which causes the tds to go up instead of down it made determining harvest easy.An annual plant will start to die off once flowering begins, and I've always assumed it's from the outside in...
