Random Thoughts: Plants & Genetics

Not sure which strain you are talking about Pennywise. If it was the BOO plant I don't think I will be saving it. Well I am saving it as of now lol. Just not sure if I will continue to do it. I need to smoke it a couple more times to be sure. I do love the smell and flavor. Thing is it isn't strong weed. Orange strains have been weak for a long time. My search is for one that has everything THC percent included. Saving this plant to smoke is one thing. Breeding into it only because of flavor isn't something I want to do. If I am going to make a hybrid I want to be able to share it with confidence it is worth growing. I don't think I will be able to say that here.

Making a hybrid here is against everything I believe. I have what looks like 3 great plants. Well 2 great plants and the haze leaning pheno of SSH. The highs of SSH are everything I expected. The short plant would have been the perfect plant to keep if I had grown it better. I am hoping the haze pheno will have a similar sativa high. The last SSH is finishing now. Kind of hard to tell as all the hairs are drying white. Now that it is starting I don't care how much longer it will take. It won't be that much longer. I just glad it isn't going to be a 16 week flower LMAO. Still might be so I better shut up about it LMAO.

In the search for great plants. I was really surprised to find 2 in this grow. Both plants are totally different then their sisters. They actually look more like each other then their sisters. I should say that 2 of the Banana Sorbet are covered in frost. The keeper plant just has better bud structure and smell.

The hybrid between Banana Sorbet x Strawberry Lemonade should be impressive. Or interesting at least. Crossing the 2 frostiest plants you have is the way breeding should be done. It won't guaranty the offspring will be good. It is a lot better then hoping to make a strain something it isn't. I won't be keeping the SSH if it doesn't have the high I want either. I don't see that happening but it might. What is in SSH genetics is well worth breeding into. There is still no reason to make this plant work when I will be growing more SSH soon. After smoking the short plant I am back to being sold on SSH. Damn I wish I had not F**ked it up LMAO. Next time I will know more and be better prepared to grow it right.

I should mention that even though I had troubles with them the SSH plants finished pretty good. I wasn't so sure at first. I had to take them earlier then I planned. Trichomes were mostly cloudy on the short plant which is my normal time. Mostly the SSH didn't finish really fast. The other strains are just taking longer then suggested. The SSH that finished drying gave me 2.4 oz's. I am sure it could have been 3 if the feeding program was better.

Yeah it kind of hurts LOL. Be careful what you wish for LOL. I don't remember wishing for orange flavor and 25% THC LMAO. I have been smoking it this morning and found what I already knew. I have more BOO seeds maybe there is one like it in them. Don't get me wrong. It is not like this weed sucks. It doesn't. It is kind of a combination of 2 factors. THC could be higher that is for sure. The type of high is wrong also. It has a upbeat body high if that makes any sense. It just doesn't make me go wow I grew that!

Can't wait to try the best Banana Sorbet when it finishes drying. That thing gave gooey a whole new meaning. Took forever to trim the plant and it was a easy plant to trim. Problems arose when I tried to drop a leaf. It took 3 times the time to drop a leaf. Add that up with every damn leaf I touched. Explains why this plant took twice as long as the others lol. Resin balls of the last 2 keeper plants are twice the size of the others. I am not sure if that means they are twice as strong or not. Probably not. It does show just how much more resin these have compared to the others.

I dropped the BOO from ICU. I am going to have a few BOO x SSH seeds. That is all I am going to do. It may give it a much needed kick to the head. Now I just wait for the last SSH to finish up. It is doing lots better. My last watering for it I added extra nitrogen and Cal/Mag. It is doing lots better then its sisters were at this stage. Pretty sure I can keep this one going if it turns out like I hope.

Other then that all I am doing is trim trim trim. I will try and get a few last pictures before I wind things up for the year.

I have to admit. Banana Sorbet is by far the best strain single I have bought. I still don't know how the high will fit in but strength is not a issue. The only one I have tried was the plant I am posting pictures of. It is the worst plant of the bunch and was great smoke. Not only do they have strength. Size seems to be there also. One of these 3 will be the heaviest I know. Probably all 3 are going to weigh more then everything else. I have just never seem size and strength like this since 707 Headband.

Here is a picture of Banana Sorbet ready to be trimmed.
All buds are big and beautiful. The red hairs give this plant nice bag appeal.

Like I mentioned. I tried this plant a couple weeks back and really liked it. It added some crystal since so should be plenty strong now.

The 2 sisters to this plant have almost twice the frost. One is going to be the mother of the hybrid with SL. Not often do you get to judge a strain by the worst plant. Normally if you get 1 great plant out of a pack a seeds you are doing good.

I missed a couple leaves and snipped off chucks of bud while trimming the Banana Sorbet. Tried them last night. Flavor looks like it is going to be on the sweet side. I won't know till the rest dry's right. It looks like the Banana might come through in the flavor. If that is the case. There is going to be a huge battle of who I am going to give the strap on too.

First trip to my favorite spring fishing spot today. I surely have missed my days in the boat. By day I mean 5 or 6 hours but I can get a lot done in that amount of time. The peace of mind last's lots longer LOL.

Kind of slacking off today as I could be trimming plants. That is one of the nice things about not going to amber. I have plenty of wiggle room for harvest. Enough to take a day off anyway. The only plant that still needs significant time is the last SSH. Still looking at weeks and not days for it.

So today I enjoy sunshine and plan for moonshine LOL. I have all the makings for CBD moonshine except the CBD LMAO. I will now be trying to figure out what CBD strain I am going to grow. I have a couple CBD auto flower and a CBD S&S Widow from the CBD crew. Not sure what is going to get the nod yet.

Wonderful looking buds there Jackalope, pristine!

What's your thoughts on the trichome density/frosting. Even tho you say your other plants had more, the above buds looked really nicely frosted. I'm still quite a beginner. I have 3 plants currently going that will all be given the chop any day now. One's an auto, a Gorilla Glue that probably displays the most frostiness (not as good as your's tho), a Widow/Gorgonzola cross shows less frosting, and a White Widow with the least which has short little stubby trichomes that look meagre compared to lots of long tall trichomes, however some of the 'bulbs' on the trichomes are exceptionally large like 5 times the size of other trichome 'bulbs', and overall so far that one seems the most potent, I was a bit surprised about that. I have seen some pictures of buds that have so much trichomes that they are like fluff covering everything, so much that compared to a ripe bud of average frosting you would think it must be have 3 times the potency of the lesser bud. Do you find frostiness generally equates to the most potent or it is just more visually appealing?

That is a lot to cover LOL. It is pretty easy though. Lots of trichomes does not mean stronger.

The trichomes themselves vary in size, strength, and numbers. I have yet to find any rhyme or reason to it. I can't even really get it on camera.

Like you mentioned. Those 2 plants both look great. I can't get pictures to show the differences in the 2 plants. In person they both look good too. So it ends up that one plant just looks lots better. You can notice the difference just by looking. I don't KNOW that these 2 plants are stronger. I just THINK they are. I am basing that on genetic make up and what I have seen over the years.

I like both these plants because of the amount of trichomes. Not exactly what is in them. Pretty much why the crossed everything into the White strains of old. The more trichomes there are the better chance of filling them with THC that has great effects. At least one of these plants has great effects also. As of now it is leading the pack on being reversed. The fact that both these plants are covered in frost. There is a good chance that trait will be transferred to the offspring. This is why I am crossing the new strains into the SSH. It is there for the effects.

Stunger. I hope this answers your question. If not just ask me for more specifics if you want. I do want to mention. In almost every strain. A plant that is totally different is going to pop up. These extremely frosty pheno's are what a lot of people are keeping as clone only stuff. There is a major difference between it and the other offspring. In lots of case's. It is the plant they were hoping for when they bred 2 strains together.

What a day! It always seems when the fishing is bad. Things can change fast. We didn't catch many fish. If fact I caught all but 1 fish the whole day. There was 15 minutes of pure bliss. Well more like a combination of excitement and stress LMAO. The fact I had a huge fish on 10 lb test line did not make things easier. So much adrenaline for so long! The whole time terrified you won't get the fish in the net LMAO. It is not that I wanted to kill the fish. I just wanted to hold it for a minute. In the end I had to keep the fish. It took a small lure down to the gills and would not have survived if I had released it. Better to not waste the meat. They taste great also. The only reason I was planning on releasing it was the age of the fish. It takes a long time for them to grow this big.
View media item 1766871At 20 lbs it is the biggest fish from my boat yet. What sucks is if I could have released it. It could have grown to 30 lbs.

That's a good size, is that a salmon of some kind? I used to do a lot fishing for trout in my youth, worm, spinner, but mostly fly fishing, it was alway nice to get out on the river and amongst nature.

It is a Lake trout. You can catch them in shallow water in the spring. I caught it on my normal trout rod. (We Have big trout here LOL). It is my river rod that I normally catch rainbow trout to 6 lbs. That fish pushed that rod to its limits

Here in NZ we only have brown trout and rainbow trout, altho I think there is a small catchment area with Fontinalis trout which I have never seen in real life, quite striking leopard like markings on them. I am uncertain about lake trout but that would have given you a good fight with it's size, hope it's nice eating, maybe smoke it if you had smoker to chuck it into. Good job!

If NZ stands for what I think it does. If so that place is amazing. You wouldn't have lake trout there. Some huge brown trout from what I hear. Those Fontinalis sound a lot like the Tiger Trout we have here. It is a hybrid of brown trout and brook trout. Yep even fisherman are breeding better strains LMAO.

These big lake trout have a fatty layer on the back side of the fillet. If you don't trim it off they don't taste good. Once you do they taste great. Plus you get big chucks of meat for deep fry. Lots of smaller fish here for the smoker which gets used yearly. We have a small salmon here called Kokonee they are great smoked.

I ok I took a day and did normal people shit. Back to fishing again today. After last trip why the hell not. Never to much of a good thing for me these days. I don't abuse stuff quite like I did in the old days lol. Mostly it is because I have a month to catch as many big fish on light rods as I can. I can still catch big fish later in the season. The tackle used makes things a little less thrilling though.

As much as I love the high from pot. Start with a ton of adrenaline then add a little excitement and stress. They combine for a feeling that just can't be bottled. It never goes away or fades over time like lots of things.

Plus today I will be by myself and smoking lots more pot. Even with out big fish I should have a better time LOL. Take care everyone.
