Random Thoughts: Plants & Genetics

Yeah so far I agree. The Tangilope from DNA was great. All I know is there is lots of Tangie in BOO. Well pretty sure it is the Blood Orange. BO is just a colored up Tangie. From the looks of it I have at least 2 of the colored BOO they talk about.

That is one of the main reasons I want to breed with it. Banana Split may be the regular strain I choose for those same reasons. My main plan for Tangie is to make a cross with Super Lemon Haze.

It is finally time for picture taking. Going to be easier to get pictures this time. All the plants are short enough to get a good top view. At least for now. SSH will change that before long lol.

I am starting with one of the best looking plants in the tent. It is Banana Sorbet by DNA. Like I mentioned before, everything is short. They are not young thought. This plant looks amazing considering it was never topped at any time. Every bud you see is in the canopy and should form up nicely. Only a inch or 2 difference between all of them. Here are a couple slightly different pics.

Cataract Kush is just cruising right along. They are some of the only plants not on buster seats. I'm not surprised that they are frosty. Hell it is DNA genetics. Of course there are plenty of terpenes it being from DNA. these are some nasty smelling critters. It is going to evolve into something dank. I am just not sure what that is yet.

I posted these else where and might as well post them here. I don't have any other photos to share. BOO is shaping up to be a pretty nice strain. The growth structure is a lot different than Tangie. I don't know how Blood Orange grows it may look like this. With all the Tangie smell I wonder how far this strain is from the original Tangie. If it wasn't for the growth pattern I would swear this is just a Tangie S-1. What sucks is at the time I was growing Tangie I wasn't taking many pictures. I don't have anything to compare it to.

I am going to have to walk back the Tangie S-1 remark LOL. As of now all 3 are loosing most the Tangie smell. The one that had a nice orange smell is even more orange with no hints of that manufactured orange smell. It is starting to smell like real oranges. One hasn't changed much, the third has lost the orange and seems to be headed for the dank side.

I got a tent picture to share today. Other than the crab clawed Ghost Train Haze in the back they all are doing good. I over did the nuits on it. It had been growing a lot. I just thought it needed it. I should have known better. It is budding great and other than the ugly leaves. Buds are pretty firm for a plant at this stage. It also has straight up Ghost Train Haze smell. This may be a plant to consider regenerating. Some of these take up to 80 days of flower to finish. That means it may still be going when the late SSH is. If so I will regenerate both and cross them.

All the plants in the tent are showing that money can buy happiness. Or terpenes any way. Smells are amazing from all the plants. Cataract Kush is taking smells from just dank to something else. Not sure what it will be when it finishes. It is going to be strong smelling that is for sure.

Really glad I got the humidifier. I don't know how much it is going to help. It is going to help though. I hope it helps enough to improve the flavors I am getting. Where to put it when I am drying is the big question now. I don't want to put it in the drying tent. I think the moister will screw up the charcoal filter. Can't be good for it that is for sure. I may be wrong, people in areas with high humidity use them so it should work for me. Either way. If I can gain some humidity then my plants will dry slower and flavor should be better. All ways nice when everything smell extremely strong to start with.

I have been out and about for a few days and have not got a chance to get any new pictures. Pretty sure SSH will be next. I might just show pictures of them all. All 3 females are different. I am not real sure what is what. One I am pretty sure is Northern Lights dom. as it has stayed short and is making fatter buds then the others. It is the other 2 that I don't know about yet. There is also one I am almost positive is a haze pheno. It is well behind the others in bud formation. The last one is the one I am unsure of. The buds have a pointy top to them as I would expect from some sativa's. The buds are the size of the shorter plant though. This plant is either a skunk leaning pheno or a mix of it and haze. Pretty sure this is the plant to watch.

Still pretty sure the later haze leaning pheno is the one I will self. I really want a straight up Haze in feminized form. It still needs to be impressive for me to take that road. I won't know till it is almost finished. I may end up saving 2 SSH females. If so I may have to self the earlier pheno to pollinate the later one.

Still no pollen from the SSH male. Pods are opening but no visible pollen yet. I am putting 2 branches in a glass of water today. We will see if it works.

I gave the SSH plants support last night. 2 of them anyway. The short one is fine right now. While doing that I realized one thing. I may not need much support for the rest of the plants. The fact they bushed out while staying short has all the plants with really sturdy branches.

I will let you know. Not sure if my plant is the best one to judge it with. I put all the SSH plants in 3 gallon pots. More than enough food for most males. My male is showing deficiencies now with no pollen. I just fed it really good to help it out. I thought low nutes less light would help push it to finish. I guess I was wrong. I have never had a male take so long to produce pollen. Now I need to make sure it doesn't die before it releases pollen no matter when that is.

Well I finally got home and had time to get some pictures of the 3 SSH females. Each one is different in it own way. Going to be real interesting to see how they finish.

First off is the short Northern Lights leaning pheno. This plant didn't stretch much at all. That and the fat rounded buds are good indicators of that.

The next one stretched a lot at first but has now stopped and is building buds nicely. Both the first 2 have a real similar smell. All its buds have a pointier top then the shorter plant.

Last is the Haze leaning plant. This plant stretch slow and is still stretching out a bit. Bud formation is well behind the others. Still I think it is could be the best plant in the bunch.

I have had similar looking plants before that had fairly firm buds. I don't care much what they end up looking like if they do their job right. The better they do their job the less I care LMAO.

Some of these may be airy though. Another good reason for having the humidifier for drying this time around. Airy buds can be a bitch to dry right.

Yeah Pennywise. I am really hoping for a Haze to regenerate. Then self it. If it does end up being a great plant I will have to consider Cinderella 99 to be first up next year. I could use C-99 to try and shorten the flower time if it is excessively long. If the flower time is not to long I won't have to worry about it.

Yeah that is kind of what I was thinking. Which is fine once in a while. That is why I am considering a hybrid with C-99. I might be able to shorten it some and keep the sativa side.

Part of what makes Haze's so great is the time it takes them to get everything done. Changing flower time could also change the high. Something to think about.

When it comes to the SSH females. My guess is that the medium plant is going to have the fluffy running buds. I could be wrong. The strains I have grown with Haze in the name are all shorter flower hybrids. Not really a Haze. I really know nothing about the true Haze's. The tall plant looks like it may form buds similar to one of the Choccrit and Liberty Haze plants. They ended up firm and round. Pretty much the golf ball buds you see on lots of sativa's.

That is the great part about growing. Watching new strains do their thing. I have to admit. This is the last time I grow all totally new strains. I am getting fairly lucky so far. Still it would be nice to have a couple known strains that I have better control of. All strains are doing good except Strawberry Lemonade. It is a problem child. All 3 are showing signs they are are not happy. only 1 of those is bad bad. It is still budding away so it is going to do something. It is actually the frostiest of the 3 S.L. plants. I have them on their own program not and they are doing better.

The Ghost Strain Haze plants are doing pretty good. As much as I hated them to begin with I am a bit surprised. The crab clawed plant was my fault. If I had not tried to stay ahead of it's feeding then it would look as good as the other. I know the crab clawed plant is Trainwreck dominate. I know enough about Trainwreck to notice the growth style. Part of why they called it Trainwreck. Is because long branches with buds everywhere. It looks like a train wreck the buds are spread out so much. Supporting this plant is going to be interesting when the buds start adding weight.

I have never had a grow smell this sweet before. Now when I open the tent my nostrils are filled with sweet fruity smells. It kind of surprised me till I realized all the dank and sour are in the back up tent. I do believe most of it is coming from the SSH plants. Banana Sorbet has started to pump out terpenes now too. That is when I noticed the sweetness creeping in from the whole tent.

It looks like my supplemental feeding is starting to take effect. I really wish I had not lost so many fan leaves to nitrogen deficiencies early on. P&K nuits were holding me back for a while. They needed the nitrogen but nothing else. Now everything is taking nuits with no signs of problems. I am only feeding light dose's of food. What changed is I am now giving them food every watering. Before I gave larger dose's every couple weeks. I need to see what works better. Nutrient levels should stay low enough that little to no flushing will be needed. I will just quit feeding when they are close. The last few watering's should flush out unneeded stuff. That is the plan anyway LMAO.

I always hated the Trainwreck growth pattern before. Ghost Train Haze may change that. Maybe I will get some pictures of them today. I am really amazed how well the one plant is doing. It has had crab claws the whole time it has been flowering LOL. Doesn't seem to be slowing it down none. The only reason I don't do anything to solve the crab clawing. It only showed up after feeding. The other GTH got no extra food and is doing fine. If not for it I may have ended up searching for what the problem might be.
