Radogast's Hi-Brix Basement Grow - New Location - New Soil - New Experiences

I've been away from the computers for a few days - music plus shopping plus taking care of business around the house.

2 days ago, I processed the last of the little 'flower in veg' girls

Bubba's gift reveg. Never really revegged. Less bud than went I started trying to save her in May.

I have a Bubba's Gift reveg clone that seems dedicated to flowering. Plant size is less than 3 inches tall after 2 months in the cloner and 10 days in hempy.

Amherst Sour diesel, a sticky little harvest - washed and hanging to dry. Her reveg clone is technically not dead yet, but I have very little hope.

Previously harvested Borderliner was dry

Borderliner XTRM weighed in at 17 grams. Lost the clone, this is the last of Borderliner in my garden. Mid-sized buds with minimal popcorn - as always

20171027_134013-1.jpg

AK47 XTRM yielded 21 grams. She has a very fruity smell. Her clone should do much better :)

P.S. Last night was the first hard freeze of the year. Night time grow room temps dropped to 67/68F. I fired up the space heaters.
Veg is a digital oil heater set to 68F. Flower is ceramic heater with an adjustment dial that got bumped. I am considering dialing her down to a minimum of 55 degrees- My thought is the lower nighttime temps may prompt faster finishing and maybe a little purple. (Daytime temps should still hover around 78-80.)

I purchased a used dehumidifier at auction yesterday (also a lot of cool garden ornaments). Testing the dehumidifier now.

One of my fans died in the flower area. It's turning weakly. Maybe it just got clogged with hair. I'll try to take a look at it tomorrow.

not super big amount 4 a yield but thy sure do look pretty tastey and since they are coming from ur garden i bet they r pretty potent as well. well i hope ur future harvests yield u more which now u got ur lights under control they shoud bounce back to normal and thats sad to hear u lost the boderliner genetics i tried one of those wen i first started out growing i got it as a freebie but that was b4 i knew what i know now about growing and i that was during the time i burnt alot and lost a fair few seeds by not putting them in a plain medium

18 months ago Borderliner was my wife's favorite strain. My favorite was a locally bred Tangerine Dream.

Now she has Carnival and Lilly as favorites. I'm guessing Kali Mist x China or Guawi will knock Lilly down a peg.

My current favs are Carnival and AK47 XTRM. AK47 is much better under Doc's Kit than it was in my soil + water grow. Borderliner flavor and effects came out about the same.

I'd still like to get an UltraDawg to come out female. People seem to like UltraDawg.

Your veg shelf all looks so tiny. Sucks that you had to push the current ones into flower but at least you've got them to push. A minor hiccup along the way. You'll be back to growing small trees in no time Rad.

I agree, my veg table is full of little girls. By the time I get to the next 1 plant havest I expect to have 3 or 4 veg plants almost ready, which will bring me back up to capacity. The veg table should be looking better in a month. My hempy girls are not showing explosive growth, but they are growing - With this large a change, growing instead of dying makes me happy :)

I installed the dehumidifier I picked up at auction yesterday and set it on 35% RH. It filled the 3 gallon bucket in abut 16 hours and kept humdity in 34-37% range according to my accuweather guage, so it's definitely working well. I set it at 45% RH.

It's getting into the 60s in the basement, so I moved a covered 5 gallon water bucket and 2 gallon water can into the flower area. This way I will have warm RO for the next flower area watering. I'm also storing 2-3 uncovered buckets of PH adjusted RO water for the hempy girls in veg for the veg watering day. (I use a touch less than 2 buckets to water the veg area today.)

I still have a fan to repair/replace, but I feel like I have effectively converted my basement garden areas to winter mode :)

Anything else (warm air output diverted indoors) is just extra :)

I'm there with you. I have one tote in flower with my basil and mint sitting in flower until it starts to fill up. The rest of my girls are little 5 inch tall babies. Hopefully my outdoor harvest holds until then.

Congrats on the harvests there Rad... looking good, happy Halloween!

Rad did you put you regular clothes on and "pretend" you're dressed for Halloween or did you get something special out??

Nice looking garden produce Radogast .

... and I'm certain you must have Halloween specials in your wardrobe, surely? ;)

I was VERY much not in the mood for hallowe'en this year, even though my neighbors did some great decorations this year. All my decorative elements I meant to set out stayed in the back yard.

I dressed in my standard hawaiian shirt and bare feet to open the door but was my typically charming Santa Claus type self with the children - Several times my wife said, "I don't know how you do it. Being so happy and friendly at the door."

It would have taken less than a minute to don a fancy hat (top hat, wizard hat, jackalope hat) or piece of clothing (cape, wizard robes, orange silk indian suit) - but I didn't ... to be clear, I know exactly where all those items are as they are part of my regular wardrobe options. Still I wasn't in the mood to dress.

The girl was wearing a purple crushed velvet double breasted jacket over a red silk vest, and when it got cold replaced the jacket with a skull decorated serape - but that's her everyday clothing choices too :)

We had the standard Hallowe'en family pizza feast with some extra woowoo activities - so it was a good hallowe'en.

Looking around my living room with it's glossy black trim, gargoyles, crucifixes, black curtains, orange pumpkin basket, skulls, black cats, 3D lighted replica of the moon, and skull cauldron - we didn't do one bit of decoration for Hallowe'en :)

PH in stored water will generally drift up over time. You might check it before use.

I checked a couple of times after 2-3 days and didn't detect PH drift. I water the hempys every 3 days.

lol well sounds like u had a decent haloween i spent all day tracking my dam dogs that took off and since we have a bunch of hunters around they lay a bunch of traps and one year one of r dogs got the tip of his paw in a tiny lil trap and just sat there but it was in a snow storm and wen he didnt come right back we went to look for him think he got lost well 3 hours later we found him across the street in the middle of the field so now wen if they take off i get all worried and go out asap lookn for em lol but yea glad to hear ur veg area is picking up speed again and yeah i notice in hempy things start off slow and then get better once the roots hit below the hole some atleast thats how its seeming for me anyway

You have a sharp eye. They do exactly as you stated. As the roots grow down, the plant moves slow. In my world, that time period is somewhere around 2 weeks. The change in speed is a touch startling and really noticeable. This is perhaps the one small drawback with hempies, but it's such a small issue that nobody cares about it... just something most growers recognize.

Interesting. Probably the RO.... I'm in tap.

I work with tap water too, and it'll drift up after a day or two. I tend to wait until I add nutrients before I check pH.

Rad.... reading about your family's decorating and clothing choices always makes me smile. :battingeyelashes: Congrats on the harvest. Lost the Borderline genetics? Having Carnival on hand takes a good bit of the sting out of that, I'm sure.

I recall reading back when I started growing that you want nighttime temps to drop between 10-15 degrees for best finish with color. I have no proof to that effect, because in my current setup I don't get any more than a five-degree variance.

Early in this grow, Doc Bud recommended keeping the nighttime temperatures above 69F Radogast's Hi-Brix Basement Grow - New Location - New Soil - New Experiences

I've been aiming for a maximum daytime high of 81F in flower. - but I have no idea why I chose that number. I know that flowering seems better at 81 than 78 and 83 didn't seem any better than 81.

As someone that keeps a tight eye on such things (usually), I try not to roam above 85.
This afternoon I was at 93. Turned the AC back on... dammit.

For the last 6 months, I've left the door open when working in the veg area . When I did that today, the temp dropped to 75 - brrrrr. Today, I stored all the lawn furniture, hoses, fountains, and porch furniture for the winter. No problem with overheating right now.

An uninvited (but welcome) guest arrived in the veg area today.

20171101_143117-1.jpg

As a gracious host should, I set out some food for her.

20171101_143309-1.jpg

If she can't find enough bugs (she can't in there) this should keep her fed for 2-3 days.

It's another brix foliar day :)

In the flower area

Haze x Kali China (57 days) - Was 4' now 3' tall and sprawling all over the place. She goes dry in the 3 days between drenches.

20171104_105557-1.jpg

Little buds, but I sort of like her :)

20171104_105619-1.jpg

Carnival (24 days) - Stretched from 17 to 31 inches - such a well behaved girl.

20171104_110219-1.jpg

Buds are just setting - she had her first cat drench today.

20171104_110257-1.jpg

Carnival - A pretty plant. Lost one leaf so far. A pleasant plant to grow and a very good smoke

20171104_110408-1.jpg

Guawi (39 days) - At 50" tall she looks like the cannabis equivalent of an Irish Wolfhound - shaggy and competent

20171104_110959-1.jpg

Her buds are developping but I suspect she has several more inches of stretch in her.

20171104_111024-1.jpg

The 3 largest in the veg area

Haze x Kali China looks so much happier than her mother in flower. I think she will enjoy the extra hempy water.

20171104_113507-1.jpg

20171104_113513-1.jpg

UltraDawg a regular seed in soil, she doesn't seem to like the training - getting woody rather than growing strong.

A Carnival in soil

The garden is settling into it's groove again. Temperature and humidity are in great ranges. Veg area is starting to look productive :)

I bagged the reveg HSO Bubba's Gift - 8 grams after 4 months of reveg - a waste of time and space - but also a learning experience.

Also fully dry today, the last of the 'flowered in veg area' girls, HSO Amherst Sour Diesel for 16.6 grams. A small finish for a strain I never quite grew well but seemed to have potential. She smells good but not as dank as her mother.

These were my only two Humboldt Seed Organization seeds. Overall I'm disappointed. I smoked lots of good Humboldt County weed in the 70s.These seeds did not live up to my expectations. As I said, the Sour Diesel had potential, but I didn't get a great run from her. None of the family liked Bubba's Gift.
