Radogast's Hi-Brix Basement Grow - New Location - New Soil - New Experiences

To quote Ministry of Cannabis ...

"The word carnival reminds you of a happy atmosphere all around, of Venice and the thousands of people dressed like centuries ago, or of Rio, Brazil, where millions of people go crazy just for a few days a year. This strain has been designed to bring the carnival into your mind. The entire process of selection and crossing has been made in Spain. This is a cross between a Haze mother and a particular individual mostly sativa as father. Carnival has an extremely high content of thc: the laboratory test on our sample has shown an amazing 23,2%. This is not the only good note, the flowering time is really short for a plant that is 80% sativa."

Im freaking out just reading that. Reminds me of my younger years and dancing with cid.

Carnival is one of the cleanest Sativa high's Ive ever experienced. Let's the mind go places without getting in the way. I am not a fan at all of racy weed...I like to wind down and chill...and Im a light-weight. Carnival is in a class all to itself...and its a sweet looking plant to grow :)

China Haze as a tweeny

She is probably still a month away from flowering, but I am pleased with the way Haze x Kali China is progressing.

This is one of those few times where I bought a seed for the story, rather than because a grower here was happy with it.

The first part of the story, sounded good

An almost pure haze experience, in feminized and with shorter flowering time!

Vigorous and uniform F1 hybrid, that combines old incensey pure Haze aromas with more modern incenses from our Kali China line.

The strong Haze expression of this hybrid is almost untouched by the Kali China influence, allowing the grower to enjoy an almost pure Haze experience, in feminized format, and that finishes one month earlier than our original Oldtimer's Haze

Genetics: Oldtimer's Haze x Kali China, but displaying an almost 100 % tropical sativa phenotype.
Structure: Tropical sativa structure with very thin leaf. Strong branching with medium and manageable node length.
Bouquet: Mainly incense, hash and old wood. With hints that vary between tropical fruits and good red wine.
High: Very hazy, psychedelic and introspective.

The second part of the story, Oldtimer's Haze, sold it to me. I had to take a shot and buy a single seed (just like buying a single lottery ticket.)

Ace - Oldtimer's Haze said:
The Haze was developed in California in the 1960s and 70s by crossing some of the best tropical sativas which had been imported during that period. Its exact genotype remains unknown, but it is probably a hybrid of different sativas from Mexico, Southern India, Colombia and Thailand, the latter two being the most dominant in the final hybrid.

Ace seed's Haze population comes from the last reproductions made with this variety in California, and it has been preserved intact until today by Oldtimer, a British breeder, and then reproduced by our breeders using a wide diversity of parental plants.

Oldtimer's Haze still preserves the genetic diversity that many present Haze lines have already lost, and it is possible to find phenotypes ranging from the mythic and nearly extinct "Purple Haze" to the most popular "Green Haze" phenotype, and of course intermediate combinations as well.

I'd love to grow a 60s Purple Haze, wouldn't you?

The top buds (head nugs) have a lot of fresh looking pistils. Lower down they look lke this.

I couldn't find my 30x loupe, so this was the best I could do with the cellphone and the 10X loupe.

I figure she is either going to finish up next week, or foxtail on me ad add some bulk to the buds.
Her buds could use some bulk :) :morenutes:

That looks nice, Rado. :cheesygrinsmiley: When they say "tropical sativa" habit I cringe. You do NOT want to try growing those indoors. They do NOT like it. At all. But those leaves look much better than a lot of them I've seen. I'm sure you have, too.

I want to run a Purple Haze too, in fact I have a Positronics they claim has been worked into a 10 week strain - haven't run it yet. But PotChimp ran Oldtimers a couple times and bombed out both times  - friggin' ridiculous mess. I had the same results when I ran Utopia Haze. Those airy fluffy ones need 8 feet just to set their shoulders. If they get it, they become some of the most elegant beautiful plants you've ever seen. Did you ever see Conradino's Nanda Devi? Gorgeous! Absolutely mesmerizing on the Italian hillside!

But this China Haze looks manageable. :thumb:

Kali China seems to be an Ace seeds favorite to tame the wild sativa structures with minimal influence on their potency and flavor profiles. I was a bit worried about growing this one, but KelticBlue has had actual harvests from Kali China crosses growing in a 1.5'x2.5'x3 foot tall tent. I figured if KelticBlue could grow in 3 feet, I should be able to grow in 6+ feet.

A little bit cocky of me, but the worst I can do is fail

I figure I have a lottery level chance of getting a purple haze.:)
If they had access to the purple haze genetics, they'd have stabilized it by now, right?

I took a glance at Conradino's Nanda Devi awhile back, but I didn't look to hard. I can't grow outside so I have to look at plants like that as art work - something I won't be growing/owning in the near future.

The name came to my attention as my daughter actually participated in the Nanda Devi Yatra in 2000. She said the flowers were spectacular.

I'm another that turns tail and runs when I hear the words 'Haze' or 'Thai' in a strains name. Some of them need to be vegged up to 120 days before they even become mature enough to flower,, then 120 days flowering with a runaway freight trains knocking on the roof of your tent. Yea that is the extremes of the cycles but. It does happen. You got to grow it to know it...Is ways to prep for strains that grow to that extreme. Did you clone? Clone are always easier to manage plants you know are going to get tall... GL and Keepem Green

I clone everything on the day I go into flower.

Maybe it's my T5 lights, but 90-120 days of veg from seed is standard for me. My clones usually veg in 60-70 days.

Prior to this grow, I was doing mainly 50/50 hybrids. The sativas are new to me.

I don't 'batch my girls, they pretty much follow an individual schedule, so one plant that runs long usually doesn't make much of a difference - the exception being my reveg plant in late veg. Having 1 of 4 slots in late veg full for the last 3 months without going into flower has slowed down the production line by 25%.

One plant that demands to be tall or else will be a frustration. I probably won't grow that one again. Of course that will leave me with a well vegged clone to dispose of - :hmmmm: I do know a local indoor grower with 12 foot ceilings

Trellising on a wall would do the trick if it starts to explode with growth. Eventually, I'm going to try one of those 5 month flowering strains. There's several reunion island strains that tropical seeds have on their site, and I really want to try one of them. Harvest outside in February..... Yea, definitely not outside.

so ...

Is the concensus that I need to put this girl into flower last month?

About 8-10 days ago I started spreading her flat, one branch at a time, so that I could promote several branch sites.

I've got the space in the flower area, a bigger pot and soil.

Should I wait for the new branches to start growing? or
should I go under the flowering lights and train her there?

I wouldn't panic too much Rad, I was joking, I think... Kali China has been bred toward the hash plant pheno of orient express so it has pretty stout genetics in it to tame the haze. It's not a super vigorous sativa added like Panama Haze does. Check Nis and Canna's tree for an example there.

Istill wouldn't let it get to big though unless you want to hang open hps bulbs down in the middle of your room. 😁

Ace does offer purple haze in seed form without it crossed. 20-24 weeks. It's longer to finish than the green pheno. Every time I go to their site I see that purple bud of Kali China x Haze. It's hypnotizing.

Looking good!

As for that, I personally would let them start the beginings of branches, but with no real world experience and a tendency to over fill my grow room, I would go with someone with experience in this over mine. I have scoured a lot of the Ace forums on another forum for strain info, so I have a decent amount of knowledge on the breeding of the strains. I'm still working on the real world experience with them. at 12-14 weeks flower time, at least it shouldn't stretch for 3 months like old timers will.

I was reading up on the Haze x kali China, it's not bred with the hash plant pheno I thought it was. I mixed it up with a different strain. I think I'd get that thing in flower soon. I wouldn't go any bigger than 5 gallons with the pot either.

She looks like she will be ready to move any day now. New branches are sprouting and her canopy is about to get wild. :)

She's already in a 7 gallon pot, no going back now!

You know if you know a plant is going to be a runaway and height might be a issue, you, if you have space, use a MH bulb or qhatever veg light you use the first two weeks of flowering. And do away with any nitrogen she might be getting in the fertlizers. MH seems to help with limiting stretch. Nice crop you got going..
