The Kind Pen

I have been enjoying The Kind Pen TruVa from 420 prize sponsor The Kind Pen for a couple of weeks. I take long slow hits on medium heat with almost no vape cloud on exhale.

20170417_002737-1.jpg

It took me about the same amout of time to go through a bowl on the vape as it did a bowl in my pipe - but I was taking hits of pipes and my wife's vape too.

For getting high, for me, there is nothing like an edible. The APV (Already Been Vaped) from the Kind Pen and my wife's dry herb Wulf Vape (alot like the Snoop Dogg Vape) is being stirred into the butter and cream cheese frosting and brownie mix below. Made before and eaten after the Easter Dinner Feast with an 89 year-old relative. The Ham, cheesy potatoes, tomato slices, baked beans, creamed cord, and cocloate cake were sitting a little heavy and I was very lazy feeling when my wife suggested eating a brownie. It took about 90 minutes to kick in, jump started with The Kind Pen, then I've been going another 6 hours. Very pleasant hours with an AK47 flair to the high as if I had smoked it - sweet. It's supplemental stimulation like that that make it hard to rate the high of The Kind Pen. At the very least, I like the way it decarboxylates the buds for making brownies :)

ABV from The Kind Pen used for brownies

20170416_105206.jpg

As you can see, the ABV is toasted medium to light brown with a touch of green. Nothing burnt, no burnt taste. near organic soil. Home grown, washed, ground, and toasted buds for long-lasting edible pleasure :)

Looking good in here rad. Congrats on the Harvest! Do you have any stomach issues consuming that ABV plant matter? I've read it's hard to digest and have always cooked it in coconut oil tHen strained before cooking with it.

We've done ABV brownies many times before, just not in about a year. No problems with anyone who has eaten them: not the epicure, the one who doesn't like new foods, the one with iritable gastric and bowel issues, or with other folks. I don't taste the ABV or notice the texture. We have always cooked the ABV in a recipe with oil.

Does the ABV have that much potency leftover? I would think it would be negligible. I hope it isn't that strong because I just throw mine away. Yikes

The leftover ABV is potent. There is one good strong brownie hit per every bowl vaped.
When you consider an edible high lasts much longer than a vape high, I'd say half the potency is left in the ABV.

AK47 and Borderliner were repotted in 10gal GeoPots.

Thanks. I haven't been tempted much by LEDs due to high price and further distances from plants. BUT RECENTLY I have been seeing these modular COB lights with heat sinks cropping up in grow tents. Hang some rails, wire some ballasts and plugs, and away you go. Lower heat and electric bills. They say you hang them fairly close to the canopy. I'm watching for them to grow big juicy plants to decide, but they look promising. The prices seem to be low enough that they will pay for themselves in reduced elctricity within a year. I'd rather throw my money at LED COBs than at slot machines :)

For me... and I run ALL cobs cept for our seedlings for veggies and my canna seedlings.. so 2 lamps that are not COBs... and 8 COB fixtures.

I got a reduction of about $50 last month (compared to same time last year) ...

I just installed 2 more VERO29 cobs (3 COBs per fixture) this month. So we will see... thing I like is I can get a lot more light per 15A circuit. Also the COBs I'm using are white light not burple so it's A LOT more stealthy. That just in itself is a big game changer, not that I'm letting my guard down. I know who's growing with LEDs in my neighborhood tho... that color is distinct and harder to cover up than normal colored lights.

I'm very happy with COB LED .. I have 3 different types. The VERO29 is getting closer to a 600W HPS ... not quite as bright but close without any or very little heat.

Borderliner is looking good there buddy! Yeah ya just never know about finish time... I take the breeders description as a guideline. Sometimes it's good to be patient and pleasantly surprised. If you go a tad too long.. hey probably going to make that up in yield.

I think a little more stony feeling in there but sometimes ya just never know. I've gone too long with Chemdawg and raced my wife to bed... oye... ummm make that raced myself to bed! I'm tired ... no my pulse was like 95bpm... I.. yie .. yie.. not tired maybe a sedative is in order! hahahaha. Yeah so trichome colors be damned, man the torpedo's, full speed ahead. :roorrip: :)

This post is just a dream... dreamed up by me and has no real meaning what so ever! Everyone ...we are on our own! :passitleft: and pass.

:party:Borderliner Harvest:party:

I harvested Borderliner today - 60 days in the flower area.
At 46 days her pistils were brown and trichomes were 100% cloudy, bud weight probaby 1.5-2.0 ounces,
then she grew new white pistils with new clear trichomes.
At 60 days her pistils were brown and trichomes were 100% cloudy, bud weight probaby 2.5-3.0 ounces.

Borderliner branches went into flower fairly even and came out fairly even.

After trimming off the fan leaves with long petioles, her branches were every which way :)

20170414_104512-1.jpg

Borderliner had more green fan leaves left at harvest than any previous grow.

20170414_104553-1.jpg

congrats on the harvest guna have to let me know what the dry weight is wen its done drying tht is lol but yea lookn great buddy keep up the good work

I am naturally tempted to run Doc's soil as a no-till, but doc puts in another batch of amendment each round of growing, so it needs another round of cooking. That's what doc does. That's what doc says to do. As long as I am following an evolving recipe, I need to get the basic recipe working great before I even suggest tweeking the recipe - For me that could take years :) I rationalize that I am giving a month of fallow time between runs for the soil to recover.

My immediate goal is to limit the amount of cooking soil to a small enough size that I have a warm place to hold it in the winter. The other option would be to cook up enough soil outside (when it is warm) that I won't run out of pre-cooked chilly soil through the winter. In a couple of months I should take stock. I aim to average 1 harvest per month (not week.) If the system starts working, and I recook soil 3 times for a total of 4 rounds, I won't need another bale of Peat Moss for a year or two. :)

Outside in the garden, I marked out a planter bed on each end of the porch by defining rectangular areas with stone curb looking beams of bedded limestone. Earlier in the week I had defined a long bed in front of the porch with the same limestone beams. I used up exactly every limestone beam that was piled at the money corner of the house since we purchased as is - rehab supplies and all. The couple remodeling the house before us may have had other plans for the limestone, but I like my plans better.

I've also been trenching and digging up enough soil that it must seem normal to the neighbors to see me pull 5 cubic feet of soil (two small garden cart loads) out of the one planter bed area, use it to build up a berm, and replace it with topsoil from across the garden. By June, seeing cooking soil and used soil appear in the garden will seem pretty normal to the neighbors. Just with a few bulbs and garden features, we are already drawing more human, bird, and butterfly traffic to our side of the street:)

Can you tell I've been non-420 gardening?

Back to indoor.

After a prior engagement post harvest yesterday (4 hours + of auction,) I had time to oven dry/decarb 1.4g of trimmed popcorn buds at 170 for about 70 minutes. Smokes like a dream.

I hung the washed and trimmed buds that were in a mesh hamper since yesterday. The initial dry of the stems stiffened them, making for easy hanging.

At the top of Page 61 (this page, and 3 days ago, as I type this) Sue is using overgrown and my veg area in the same sentence... hold that thought.

The Grow room smelled different today, without Borderliner in the room, yes but also .... the smell turned out to be boys.

Hawaiian Skunk clone in the Flower area - is a boy.

Sure these were the only two unsexed seeds, but lego men, you are fired from the plant spirit guides.

There is nothing overgrown about my veg area today :) With my two largest girls gone to be with the boys (sleeping with the woms soon,) the veg area is down to 5 rooted plants and a few rooting twigs in the cloner bucket.

Ak 47 and Borderliner clones are now the largest, with Ace Mix and Delicatessen Lilly seedlings close behind. Just as close, a Lilly clone folowed by other clones coming out of the clone bucket.

Give it a month, 2 of these girls should be ready for flowering

yea I think purple kush is either a super potent indica or I went a tad to long in letting it grow cuz I some a bowl and its not even fully cured so I use my vape and I pass out after about 4 hits and I'm napping in my chair lol n shit it didn't even turn out th frosty so I can jus imagine this round she will be a freak lol I think I'm guna take it alil bit earlier this time tho cuz if this one was tht potent I cant wait for a frostier version lol I jus don't want it to put me right to sleep right away and if I pick it alil earlier then I mite be able to get a slightly uppy kinda high I'm not really lookn for an uppy kinda high but more of I'm able to be high an enjoy it an not pass out lol

That's a fun thing about taking clones. You can run it again, try something a little different, see if you like the effect.
When I switched my flowering timer from 12/12 to 11/13, I liked the difference.

The first time I ran borderliner (a different seed) I harvested after 46 days - she was a monstor at killing pain and was at 100% cloudy. (My wife usually doesn't like the sleepy time of amber.) This time she was the same at 46 days, but I noticed her trichomes were short (button mushroom) shaped so I watched daily and saw her put out a second wave of pistils and grow larger. The second time she reached 100% cloudy, her trichomes were looking more beech mushroom or enoki mushroom shaped - lots of stalk. Some of the stalks were also loosing their rigor which, like amber, indicates the girl had passed her peak THC moment. I feel good about waiting longer this time, and will do it again.

Purple Kush tend to be pure indica or act like pure indica, so if you got a powerful amount of THC, you might have to harvest at partly cloudy to stave of some of the sleepiness. You might also just power through the tiredness playing a video game. Growing clones you get to test how you can do better than last time :)

I was looking up Amherst Sour Diesel at HSO today, and they suggest indoor harvests in 65-70 days and 10-15 oz in a 3x3' space. My Amherst Sour Diesel is in the low 60 days, not gaining much weight and looks like she will fall in the estmated 2.5-3.7 oz range specified - so she is on track and the breeder didn't seem to lie - but I don't really know because i've never grown it before. :)

congrats on the harvest guna have to let me know what the dry weight is wen its done drying tht is lol but yea lookn great buddy keep up the good work

So I went downstairs and looked at the hanging buds

20170419_154811-1.jpg

The branch snapped so they are ready

20170419_154824-1.jpg

I trimmed of a bunch of buds that look like this. They are heavy and hard.

20170419_163233-1.jpg

All told, Borderliner weighed in at 114g - 4 oz.

20170419_163151-1.jpg

I'm really happy with 4 oz in a gallon baggie.

Fresh bud at Rad's!!!
What's the story with those metal tags? I have wandering plant tag issues.

They are aluminium plant tags with aluminium wires, when you write on with a ball point pen the words are etched (repoussed) into the metal. They don't rust so good for outside and gardens. They were about $15-20 for a box of 100 a couple of years back.

I started out writing in planting dates and flowering dates - but I keep track of that stuff on a bulletin board - so now I am making tags with only the strain name . I can reuse the strain tags :)
