Radogast's Hi-Brix Basement Grow - New Location - New Soil - New Experiences

Hey Rad. I hope you're doing well. I just learned something interesting at this hotel that I think you'll want to know. Those fancy light switches that have a motion detector built in are pretty cool sometimes but can be a problem also. The one in the bathroom here isn't very sensitive and times out before a long hot shower is finished without any way to find it in the dark in a strange place. A regular light switch is probably the safest bet most times.

Some of the stalks were also loosing their rigor which, like amber, indicates the girl had passed her peak THC moment.

I was not aware of this Rad. Thanks for the learning. :hugs: I take mine as soon as they go cloudy, so I don't see this as a concern in my garden, but a nice bit of information for the data banks. I've decided I like the zippiness I get from a mix of cloudy and clear, so I never let them get to amber either. Why do I need to slow down? :laughtwo: Now I'm figuring out when is the best mix for me. The CBD strains are different. I try to let them get to amber, but just at.

I'm wondering if these aging eyes wouldn't appreciate a good magnifier attached to the iPhone for checking trichomes. I've noticed it's getting more difficult to see them on my own, holding the magnifier over the lens. Guess I'm getting older. :battingeyelashes:

Don't go blaming those aging eyes. The whole cornea of the eye loosing elasticity with age and making people farsighted is just one of those urban legends - who ever heard of eyes and skin loosing their elasticity? So don't go blaming those eyes.

It's the evil weed in you. You know evil is live spelled backwards - explain that! You can't can you. Those edible marijuanas, you take one marijuana and whoo-ee it's a long, wild ride. But 2 or 3 marijuanas, with that companion oil lecithin, you get the shakes so bad - that weeds got a hold on you and the monkey on your back won't let you see to be a straight shooter - shooting down those dreams of people who just want to be free.

Know what I mean!

If'n you do, Happy 420 day !

 :bong:

Happy 4/20 Rad. You're one of the best things about this neighborhood. :laughtwo:

420 day

Watering day for seedling CBD Critical Cure (also for the flower area.)

20170420_120956-1.jpg

I totally missed on the FIM, mangling 4 small leaves which grew into big leaves, so I did a regular topping today.

20170420_121005-1.jpg

I took a good look at Amherst Sour Diesel (66 days) trichomes.

20170420_130838.jpg

A lot of the trichomes are getting kinked and stretching

20170420_130838-1.jpg

Some of the trichomes are losing their heads - Time to harvest, even though they are mostly clear.

Amherst Sour Diesel - Day 66 - Harvest day

20170420_121436-1.jpg

The heads were hanging down, the flowers were all drooping and hanging low.

20170420_121449-1.jpg

I still don't have multiple 5 gallon buckets that are clean so I bud washed in the laundry sink.
Lime juice and baking soda in the 5 gallon bucket, rinse water in the sink

20170420_130455-1.jpg

I wash buds in handfuls about this size, dunking 30 times in wash followed by 30 times in the rinse water

20170420_131308-1.jpg

Once all the buds are rinsed, I left them soaking in the tub and replaced the wash water with fresh rinse water

20170420_131835-1.jpg

Then a final rinse in the bucket and hang to drip dry for a few minutes.

20170420_132019-1.jpg

Today's 420 day pictures - First picture fuzzy because my trichome sticky fingers smeared the camera lens

20170420_135236-1.jpg

Wipe the lens, that's more clear now.

20170420_135259-1.jpg

AK47 buds in the Metal tea canister, Borderliner buds in the glass jar and gallon baggie, ASD waiting to be trimmed and dried.

20170420_135306-1.jpg

I added a bong and scissors so that the trimmer is all ready to go.

I have always gone until I hear an audible crack from a stem -- except recently with AK47. I really wanted something smokable and it had been hanging about 10 days, so I broke my rule and jarred before the crack sound. The biggest fear of jarring early would be damp leading to mold. Between the Boveda packs and the jar being opened every day, I'm not too worried about damp and mold.

Ya know your growing good ladies when you have to use a 5gal to hold your buds.
I tend to stick with large kitchen bowls and cookie trays... but all my 2L ladies are petite after all.
Thts what i jus did to harvest my blueberry last night was use kitchen mixn bowls n tote lids to hold em as i trimmed lol omg so wen i wen to get soil to plant my newest addition to the family i am getting soil from my organic bag soil from aurora n low an behold looky what i find lmao

I like to hang dry my weed by critches in the branches. In this case 5 gal is a TALL bucket, not a big bucket - plus I just used the bucket for washing :)

I have to confess something (While listening to David Bowie "I'd rather be high. I'd rather be flying.")
Yesterday, on 420, I had driving and stuff planned, so I didn't even smoke cannabis. Watered, trimmed, washed, harvested, even gifted - but not smoked or vaped.
It was 4:20AM on 4/21 when I realized this fact. I suck at being a stoner :)

The wife is a very creative person who adapts to new circumstances. In our previous house she kept a Head Nug Jar where head nugs from multiple harvests were saved for many months to cure long after the main stash of nugs was smoked up. Most of the strain jars were open for whomever, but the Head Nug Jar was her private stash.

I've been using her Head Nug Jar for nori & rice snack crackers. Next harvest it will make a good stash jar, as it holds 3 oz or more.

My wife looked around for a new place for storing Head Nugs

20170422_150257-1.jpg

She has a step stool in her office.

20170422_150237-2.jpg

The step stool is now a storage space for the curing of head nugs.

20170422_150226-2.jpg

Only 2 harvests have dried so far. She has space for 5 oz or more of head nugs :)

20170422_150131-1-1.jpg

I was a better stoner today. Woke up to 100+ joggers running past the house in 80s colored neon shirts in green, yellow, pink, etc - About 10% of the men were wearing tutus. So that deserves a few hits, followed by breakfat, another few hits, a mostly AK47 brownie, yard work, another few hits, Johnny Walker Red, arranging Lord of the Rings action figures, and surfing the 420 boards :)

The wife did some nice interior decorating today while I did nice work in the yard. I like a good Sativa Saturday :)

Amherst Sour Diesel, oven dried is smooth, clean and delivered a happy, active day. I hung ASD to dry.

About 30 minutes ago, I was reading Sweetsue's thread and I was reminded to try Dr. Ziggy;'s Frost Free Fridge Dry - a drying technique defined by Dr. Ziggy and promoted by SweetSue. Since I procrastinated about this 22 hours ago, tonight I went downstairs and removed a little less than 1 oz out of an (estimated) 2.5 oz harvest of Amherst Sour diesel (harvested 3 days ago.)

20170423_232350-1.jpg

I usually do this stage of trimming when the weed is dry. It took twice as long while wet. Mostly damp popcorn buds are much more annoying to trim than dry popcorn buds.

20170423_233120-1.jpg

Here are the nugs and jar wrapped in cheesecloth and stored in the 'dark beer, dry salami, and white wine' drawer of the refrigerator (my drawer :) )

20170423_233355-1-1.jpg

Someday before they are dry, I'll discover (again) how long this process is supposed to take :)

Hey there Rad, congrats on yet another harvest.. ahhh the sweet timing of perpetual growing.

Wait, were you perpetual yet? I guess you are well on your way now, eh?

You might need a bigger notebook! :passitleft: RoorRip

I think you will like the Sour-d, should be pretty similar to Chemdawg from HSO, which is my favorite lately. Very good up high followed by a nice body buzz. Makes me wanna go hit that White Wine drawer there and commence to some puffing. :thumb:

Great job once again.. looks like you're getting into a nice stride here, pumping out the goodies! Go Rad Go... :high-five:

Have you looked into some C-Vaults containers. You can put say 3 zips in the 2nd to largest one with a large 62% Bovida pack in the lid. Those buds stay fresh for 6 months no burping required either... get a small one for your wife so her secret stash keeps fresh... That's how I do it. I just ran out of Dark Devil in my little C-vault that I harvested last spring... it was perfect, with a 10 month cure it was sweet smooth tasty and hard hitting!

Cheers

I'm close to perpetual. I had my full count of 4 plants in the flower area for about a week. I'm trying to harvest and begin flowering 2 plants each month, but I've had a pair of 1 plant months. Around the middle of May, I expect to be at a steady 2 plants per month.

My goal is 5 oz per month, but it seems I'm headed closer to 6-7 oz per month :)

- - -

No notebooks for me - but I do keep a separate notecard for each plant. My card for Bubba's Gift in flower.

20170425_103535-1.jpg

Bubba's Gift (38 days of 11/13) is 20" tall.

20170425_103114-1.jpg

She's not as frosty as she looks in the flash, but she'll do fine.
20170425_103557-1.jpg

Week 5 in flower, she looks like she has more than 2 weeks to go. HSO website says 48 days.

7 or 8 2-liter C-Vaults would be nice. With finances what they are, I'll have to make do with our random collection of tea canisters and old pickle, pasta, candy and candle jars. We're going the goodwill industries route :)

Historically, I haven't kept ahead of demand for more than 3 months at a time.

Out of the first 7 oz harvested in the last 6-8 weeks, we probably have 3 oz left. That's only 1/2 oz per week, but pot smokers are like computer programmers - their demand expands to keep up with the supply :)

Sorry,,,, I can't understand why one wood wash there buds... Unless you got budworms or have been spraying your plants... Once my plants start to flower,,, anything I put on them I could'nt care less about smoking.. Maybe some dust from the air? I always think you'll knock off all kinds of trichome heads... Handling knocks them off why woodn't washing them... And I'm not a believer in the 'free radical's' theroy. I can understand washing outdoor weed.. Bird shit, bug shit, mold, alot of things,,, but a proper indoor crop shouldn't need washing,, should it?
Nice looking girl,,, has she figgured the 'cube' yet???????? Keepem Green
