Radogast's Hi-Brix Basement Grow - New Location - New Soil - New Experiences

I can tell you they're making a dramatic difference in my garden Rad. You're gonna be glad you saved the money if you go with COBs. I'm already seeing a reduction in my electrical usage. The company sends me a weekly update on my usage and it's gone down two weeks in a row since installing the COBs, and the plants love them.

And how easy were they to hang? It's a DIY dream come true. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Especially when you get someone else to build you a frame :)

(Sue knows this) I've been following a first time grower MrGreene. He purchased a pile of budget COB parts.

His first girls are just heading into flower tent (yet to be built.) I'm excited to see how it works out. He wired some together for testing

My First Time - AK47 & Gold Bar Kush

I'm sure he would welcome the support from anyone who wants to head over there .

Thanks for the support Rad. Of course I'd welcome the support and companionship of anybody that would like to visit my journal.

I have a tent together now and plan on moving AK in there tonight along with the first set of four cobs.

Veg update

Delicatessen Lilly and Ace Mix keep pushing against the lights. They want to move into flower. At least one space will open up within a week.

Next in line for a big pot is Hawaiian Skunk. She and her clone in the flower area have both resisted showing sex so far.

Also also in line for a big pot is Tangerine Widow . I have both 1st run and 2nd run soil finishing cooking in 4 days.

Tangerine Widow looks like she might turn out to be a boy.

I have a growing AK47 clone ready to take her slot if she is a he. Also fully rooted in 1 gallon pots are clones of Lilly and Borderliner.

In the clonebucket, Bubba's Gift has not shown roots. The first set of clones for Amherst Sour Diesel(ASD) failed to root. A flowering clone of ASD taken a month ago has shown short, thin roots and lost them twice. I guess I knocked them off, but I've never seen this happen before. I may not get a good clone of ASD. I'm running the flower room warmer at night, 70 F instead of 60-ish. I wonder if the warmer water doesn't create clones as well. Or maybe HSO genetics require different cloning conditions.

The smallest in the veg area are the seedlings, CBD Critical Cure

I tried to FIM CBD Citical Cure and I got something else a bit wonky looking

and last, but not least, Carnival

I topped Carnival and she looks fine :)

Hummm I just had to order a new led. One of mine the bloom lights went out but I really can't gripe to much... It was my first one and has run constantly for 3.5 years... Just replaced it with the same M-H light for about $150 so I figure she paid for herself several times over. I'm sure there are much better leds out there but for the money I love my M-H's... I have several Twilights... Hate em'... And another back there in a box I did a review on... Hated it... Can't even remember what the brand was but I don't think they are even around anymore... Anyway was just surfing through and got all mouthy.. Hope you're having a blessed and green day...:circle-of-love:

Not a problem instead a good thing :)

The thing I like about the Mars Hydro reflector series(desides the price), is they recommend getting up close (12-18") to the lights during flower.

The thing I don't get about the M-H reflector series is the way they rate their power. 205 watts of M-H replaces 250 watts of HPS/MH light. If I have to use almost as much electricity, the advantage of LEDs goes away. Now this is just book learning here, I have no real experience with LEDs.

So if you feel a little more mouthy, do you cover a 2x4 area with your M-H 96? I cover a 2x4 area with an HPS 600.

If I can believe their math and actual voltage, and 207W it's enough watts, that would be great. But if I can believe their math, I could just switch my ballast down to 50% and cut my watts in half while having a nice frosty grow. That doesn't seem to stand to reason, does it?

I took cannabis photos, picked flowers, talked about trellises, pulled dandelions, himalayan salted a crystal ball (in honor of the pink full moon) and looked at a plant catalog today. Does that count as a blessed and green day? You have a blessed and green day yourself :)

My ex was a lot harder on my budget.

Could you have bought half that pile for $175?

You can depending on which heatsinks and drivers you choose. That pile was enough to make 18 lights with plenty of leftover stuff. I also have a few 100w cobs on the way to see how they compare to the 50w. I'll end up ordering some vero29 chips in the next few weeks to see if I'm missing out on much.

Cobs were $1 each
Reflector/lens $2.50 each
Undrilled heatsinks $5 each
Drilled heatsink with reflector/lens $17 each
Mean Well dimmable driver HLG-185H-C1400B $55
Inventronics 4 channel driver $13 each (if they are still available)

There are a few other goodies in the pile to play with like 10w UV cobs, chinese drivers, 12v power supplies.

You could put together a 4 cob light for about $140 if you want a Mean Well driver and don't want to drill and tap. It would be about $50 with the four channel driver and drilling/tapping the heat sinks yourself.

Sorry you had problems with yours Keltic.. I've had really good luck with mine and to be honest... This is the 21st light I've bought from Sara and it's the first time I've ever had one go out... I've got everything from a reflector 48x5, 144x5, Mars II 400's and a MarsII 800 and several other brands... Yes I'm a brat... But I like the 96x5 reflector and a 48x5 reflector in my bloom tent. They are simply plug and play... I don't have to use an exhaust fan and my tent with both lights running with a small fan inside the tent runs about 77 degrees so it's just easy and I do easy really good...
Rad I would love to be all smart and have a really good argument for led here but I don't have a clue about growing with anything but less... I've seen grows.. Like big grows under HPS but I don't have any idea what replaces what but I do know from reading their post that people tell them that their math doesn't add up for comparison... Their cree lights might possibly but I simply don't know... I bet Light Addict would be a good one to ask that question cause I'm pretty sure he was growing with HPS when I first started on 420... I'm worthless... I'm going back to my corner...:;):....:circle-of-love:

Oh and on the coverage... In my 2' x 2' tent I run the 96x5 and a 48x5.. In my flower 2'3" x 2'3" tent I run a 144x5 and a old style M-H panel 300w for side lighting... I like pretty lights... And I'm a true believer in the more the better but that's the most I can run without having to run exhaust systems and it's just better for all involved if I stick to the K.I.S.S. System...:;):...:circle-of-love:

You are not worthless!

and two simple questions for you (and Keltic Blue)

How much area does your flowering light cover?

Are your buds dank? (I think I know the answer to that one :) )

My eyes do have a problem with blurple, even with glasses, but I don't spend much time in the flower area. The most time I spend is carryng the girls in and out on foliar day.

Some of my buds are like rocks but of course a lot depends on genetics... The Black Dog I just chopped are like torpedoes and extremely dank. I'll try to remember to take you some pics of my Sapphire OG when she wakes up in the morning and she has the most beautiful hash tips I've ever seen...:trance: and even as bad as I take pics I think you'll be able to see how absolutely covered in snow she is and you'll see how heavy her bugs are... Her limbs are falling all over the place... She's huge... I'm quite happy with how she's looking...:circle-of-love:

So which plant gets the OK to go into flower next, Lilly or Ace? They've both outgrown your veg space Rad. :laughtwo:
