Radogast's Hi-Brix Basement Grow - New Location - New Soil - New Experiences

Thanks Doc Bud !

The AK47 (42 days with yellowing fan leaves) had 2 TBSP epsom salts on 3/3 - 6 days ago. I didn't notice the yellowing then.
Amherst Sour Diesel had 2 TBSP of epsom salts in veg (2-3) and then again on 2 weeks into flower lighting (2-27.)
Borderliner had no epsom.

What is the trigger for you suggesting epsom salts ?
Which plants ?
In what amounts ?

I was following your advice blindly - but I guess I ought to start understanding how to help these plants grow better.

The taco...magnesium demand. Be patient, the new formulations should put this issue in the past.

Ignorant, tho perhaps technically correct, has many negative connotations. I'll stay with 'under exposed'.
Dig in a touch. I don't know anyone that hasn't enjoyed reading AC Clarke.

Under exposed. That hits it pretty good. I think we should stop in here now... Radogast has been nice to me and i want to keep It that way. If i ever have the desire to read anything else i will give it a try. Promise... ;]

Of the "Big Three" I prefer both Asimov and Heinlein.

Asimov and and Clarke had a shared answer to who was the bettter writer; Clarke is better at writing Sciene Fiction and Asimov is better at writing Science Fact. I woukd say Asimov was better at both - but it kept the peace.

Heinlein and Clarke fell out over their support of Ronnie Rayguns 'Star Wars' (SDI) plan - I heard they patched it up.

L. Ron Hubbard tried to break into the top tier with Asimov and Clarke, but when he took their bet to found a religion, he drank his own Church of Scientology koolaid. He was nowhere near their caliber.

I was more of an old school/silly ideas sci fi reader. EE Doc Smith: Skylark of Space, Harry Harrison: Star Smashers of the Galaxy Rangers, Stainless Steel Rat, and of course Andre Norton because her books filled the public libraries as a kid. I left sci-fi behind 3 decades ago, with only a few trips back to read steampunk sci-fi (9-10 years ago) and the to read the 14 Wizard of Oz novels and Edgar Rice Burroughs Barsoom series(4-5 years ago.) I prefer long form entertainment, so would rather read or watch an entire series to a single show.

These days my guilty pleasure reads tend more to hardcore vampire and mythical beast romance novels. My last two books, this week, were a novel of a Scottish bed and breakfast where people rediscover their life goals under the guidance of nature and the hotel staff - and - a play by play (with background stories) of game 6 of the 1975 World Series. Might not finish that one - I find sports pretty boring - but it was next up on my book list.

I've only failed to finish a handful of books in my life. I'm a voracious reader when not married: 100-150 per year of non-fiction OR 350-400 per year of fiction. I usually read one or the other. But I'm married now, so I hardly touch the stuff

Go ahead and fight it out - blood meal is good for the outdoor soil. Just remember the Marquis of Queensbury Rules.

(p.s. Marquis of Queensbury was a prick. He put Oscar Wilde into prison for multiple consentual sodomy sessions with his adult child.)

(p.p.s. I'm looking forward to a harvest after so many months. My cannabis deprived brain is wierd, I could use some balance.)

Hey Rad

Any Idea what your ACE mix is?
If I recall back in 2015 nicholas flamel found out from ace they were Guatamala, Tikal, and Orient express in the standard mix.
( i got the Orient Express at the time )

just curious, i might have missed it i you said. :hippy:

:surf:

I only know what they say on the website - essentially a freebie from a grab bag. I have some of whatever they were shipping in Mid-december. You can send them an email and ask if you are curious.

Neither of my ACE seeds have been robust growers yet - I'm putting most of the blame on watering issues in shallow and small pots.

In my simple formula, the true test of a plant is in whether folks want to smoke and taste it again. If people reach for it, I will keep growing it - that's why I'm usually slow about trying new strains, I like having my keepers. I'm not growing multiples of the same strains this time, so no plant names, just their strains. If Ace Mix turns out to be a keeper, we'll have to come up with a name :)

Yesterday was a breeze in the garden - all I needed to do was water one plant in the veg area and adjust a couple of wires holding branches.
Today was a bit more effort.

DocBud told me to do epsoms to help with the taco leaves. I interpretted this to mean sprinkle 2TBSP of epsoms on the soil surface of the 3 girls in flower. I plan to repeat epsom salt applications once a week if they still have taco leaves.

First up AK47, ready for a GE drench so I sprinkled epsoms, watered in with 1/2 gallon GE water followed by 1/2 gallon Tea water.

Next Amherst Sour Diesel and Borderliner were ready for their 2nd CAT drench, watered with 1/2 gallon CAT drench followed by 1/2 gallon Tea water.
I waited on the epsoms for those - I didn't want to mix with the CAT drench.

Then I recalled Doc Bud said Epsoms + REscue drench / Super drench for the yellowing fans on AK47 mid-flower, so ...
I watered AK47 again with 1/2 gallon of Super-sized Transplant (1.6 oz) water followed by 1/2 gallon of Super-sized Tea water.

It's been 7 days since my last Briz foliar (Forgive me father for I have sinned) but I'll wait until tomorrow. 8 drenches for 3 plants in the flower area is enough excitement for one day. (Yes, with planning I could have combined this down to only 2 mixes in larger batches. I used smaller batches because it's easier for me to flood the top of the soil twice with 1/2 gallon in a bucket than flood multiple plants more times out of a 5 gallon bucket.)

Then I went onto somethng requiring less thinking, scraping flaking paint off my bathroom ceiling.

P.S. The flower area still smells fruity. There is a bit of subtle aroma as I enter the basement room and a magnificent blast of aroma as I open the flower area door. This week, It's less citrus in there. No earthy or heavy aromas. Smells like mellow mangos with a touch of sharper pineapple scent.

Brix foliar day in the flower area

AK47

Today was Brix Foliar Day, so also "drag 'em out and do a photo op day" for the flower area.

20170313_162955-2.jpg

AK47 (day 46) - Major leaf senescence going on, as was the case in non Hi-Brix grows.

20170313_163107-1.jpg

AK47 buds are wider than I have seen before - At this age they are hard, sticky, and airy.

20170313_163135-1.jpg

Mostly a mango fruit smell - The trichomes smell 'fuelly' when bumped

20170313_163343-1.jpg

Many 'toasted' bud hairs now. I had to prop up the largest 3 colas.

Amherst Sour Diesel

Amherst Sour Diesel (day 28) - frosting nicely. My first time growing.

20170313_164142-1.jpg

Amherst Sour Diesel (day 28) - I gave her the 3rd application (in 6 weeks) of 2 tbsp epsom salts - to bring down taco leaves.

Borderliner

Borderliner (day 28) - Only 31" tall, she is a bud monster! She had her first epsom salts today.

20170313_164502-1.jpg

Not huge buds, but it's early - and there are a lot. :)

Borderline (Day 28) - How's that for a flat canopy after the stretch?

Thanks Blazinjones - With your new tent I expect to see some big girls in that big space in spring - and spring starts next week!

I didn't notice how much leaf yellowing was going on with the AK47 under the yellow light. I think I've been letting her go a little too long between feedings. We'll see how the adjustment works out with these next two girls.
I also think I made my flowering area a little too narrow - not much I can do to fix that without a remodel

I sure won't complain about Doc Bud's growing system. I'm still learning the ropes, but I can see and smell the results. There is a vibrancy to the plants, even yellowing AK47 It's exciting.

Thanks Rad! As you improve, know also that the kit is improving. Growth Energy and Transplant are now endowed with a good dose of magnesium and sulfur. It took awhile, but finally we're there.

This means that instead of an OG drench, we'll have a "landrace" drench...which will be the old formulations. I think we'll grow the popular stuff way better now. .....which means it will be pretty damn good.

Downstem and bowl not pictured. (I took this photo in it's last few seconds of virginity as the bowl was being packed.)

After the initial inhale, I calculated the volume of the 2" ID stem and the air in the beaker above the waterline as 850ml.
A typical wine bottle is 750ml.

The young man didn't even cough !
(His pupils dialated and he swayed a little, but he didn't cough :) )

My plants started crispy leaves like that when my RH dropped going into winter. With this cold snap again, my RH went down to the high 30s with my humidifier running full blast.

This version of AK47 has canablized her leaves every grow. Even the one that finished 60-70% RH.
Toay's flower area low was 33% with an overnight high of 48% - this was the first time my high RH has gone below 50% in a week.
The high for the week was 62% (per my memory) and I don't want to get above 60 when I have buds over 1.5" wide :)

We are still on street weed. The dealer has had the same stuff for 2 months. Looks like dispensary weed. Stinky stuff. Talky followed by couchlock. Decent pain control.

I, personally, am waiting for a homegrown harvest before I smoke.

lookn great rad I jus recently had a bio glass bubbler tht my girlfriends dog knocked over wen I was cleaning and broke on me but till then was a very gud bubbler lol anyway very nice rad and yeah I no wat u mean on waitn for a homegrown harvest I'm smoking my stuff and I have sum street smoke and I prefer my stuff versus the street stuff cuz mine is smoother jus not quite as potent :( but yea hopefully now I'm working with better genetics my potency will rise

AK47 Harvest Day (51 days under 12/12)

I was looking at my notes 3 days ago, and saw that my first AK47 (Gaby) finished in 49 days .I was so shocked at the time, I postedt a pseudo-clever conversation with myself including the phrase "can't argue with the loupe." Radogast 2 - Return of the Clones

Two days ago, day 49, I checked my current AK47 trichomes and found 70% clear. This afternoon, trichomes were 95% cloudy- by that I mean I found some clear trichomes the first I looked, then I lost them and evey other trishome I found was cloudy. I looked low, all cloudy. So ...
Trichomes don't lie : Today, day 51 since the flip, was Harvest Day :)

Trimming - After bud washing, I brought a 5 gallon bucket of buds to an eager trimmer. She put down her scissors for this photo

20170317_165424-1.jpg

Hanging - I hung the buds in my veg area - Temperature: 71-78F, Relative Humidity:50-62%

I hadn't really planned ahead where to dry the buds, Hanging from the speaker wires in the veg area looked good

Following trim party tradition (even a trim party of one), I quick dried 4 grams of popcorn. (90 min at 200F)

I remember why I like AK47. I feel happy and friendly. First hit, about 8 seconds, there is a "ping" in my forehead, and before the first cough I am grinning and feeling A-OK :)

Watched Simon Pegg and ensemble in the season 2 opener of "Spaced" 11PM and the wife, the young woman, and I have all enjoyed a few episodes. The boy came home from several hours spent with a convention center dishwasher that he barely kept running - pacing the machine (and himself) to make it through the night - related the story - and then we proceeded to watch Daisy on "Spaced" get turned into a zombie by a large kitched dishawasher. So that is fun.

Tuck the wife into bed, return downstairs, take a second hit of quick dried AK47 - Happy and friendly, I type this post :)
