Radogast's Hi-Brix Basement Grow - New Location - New Soil - New Experiences

The AK47 aroma is dominating the flower room. (Tthe other 2 girls in there are younger - just setting their flowers.)

AK47 smells like what the strain is know for - fruity, sweet, non-lemon citrus, mango ... no hint of musk, or diesel.
She smells like edible fruit.

In previous grows, this aroma has been subtle and elusive.
This grow, in DocBud's kit, it smells like I am is peeling a ripe fruit at arms length - quite pleasant. Not overwhelmingly strong.

top dress with epsoms FTW! You're not gonna believe it.

I hadn't paid attention to know that the aroma of ak47 would be so pleasant. Does the emsoms make it smell stronger?

Epsoms salts (magnesium sufate) adds magnesium. Cal-mag is a favorite for increasing buds, but Doc likes to keep calcium in the soil under control.

Beyond that, I don't know :)

God we used to play the hell outta Castle Wolfenstein back when I was a teenager.

Yep. Now imagine Castle Wolfenstein in a party with 40-50 people, mostly in their 20s. You are standing up at a keyboard. There is alcohol, weed, no parents, almost everyone has their own apartment, and someone cute/hot comes up and leans in close to watch you play. Castle Wolfenstein was a babe magnet :)

AK47 was given 0.4 ml Tea in water, 7 ml GE in water, 2 tbsp epsoms sprinkled in water, and everyone got Brix foliar.

Foliar Day means moving around the plants in the flower room; a good day for pictures :)

At 18 days, I see a couple of Cat drenches in the near future.

Environmentals - Flower is mostly 83-85 in the daytime - but occaisonally hits 87 or 88. Humidity is about as good as I can get.

You're getting it dialed in! Gonna be nice! Nearly there on the environmentals, definitely hitting the drenches and sprays right.....I predict your best weed ever in your near future.

I purchased this pair of lights at the local Ace Hardware for about $8 each. They pack a lot of lumens. Installed in my 9' ceiling kitchen, the pair is almost painfullly bright, probably due to the 5000K 'bluer than daylight' tint.

I was considering using them for supplemental light under my 'full spectrum' T5 HO close to the larger sized vegging plants.

What do you think?

2017-03-05_00_59_17.jpg

The only other spec I could find was CRI=88, which I think is an index of how much it looks like daylight to a human eye.

It all looks good Rad. :thumb:

You get 1520 lumens of midrange temp at 16 watts = 95 Lu/w, so that's pretty good - the CRI is jus' fine - basically your standard "100W" CFL.

I've seen a grow where someone that has used CFLs for years, switched to LED. It was a marked increase. The thing to keep in mind, is that they shine directly downwards instead of to the sides like CFLS.

I've been a light snob for awhile. Prior to my current weed fetish I was a major flashlight nerd. Bought a high CRI light back in 2010 (went for less light but better color) and it has never left my pocket. All of the lights in my house are at 3000k, or less. I can't stand that blue garbage that gets pushed out of these bulbs.

Rad, been hard to read all of the journals in my subscription. I will have to read back a few pages to see all of your electrical jazz. Well done! Everything looks great man!

Unlike CFL, The GE Bright Stik appears to emit (diffused) light pretty evenly

This is actually the first new light/electrical idea I've had since I hung saddlebags on my HPS hood about a year ago :)

I'm not a fan of this 5000K light for home use, but my wife prefers the 2x16w LEDS to the 18x25w candelabra incandescents we had up last month. For the rest of the house we are fully in the 'soft white' range :)

Mall Wart has a 37 dollar 2 strip LED shop light. They draw 45W. I added two to have some better light for pictures and judging plant color. Then, I decided to use them as added light. I want to add two more at about 3 feet above the floor for fill light.

I never know

Very space age !
:)

I'm picturing a low tech hanging bulbs on a grid setup so I can do close distance canopy sidelighting - think hanging bulb CFLs.

I've been wondering if even WANT to help my plants veg faster - I currently have 8 strains started with a goal of 4 plants perpetually in flower. The theoretically 'perfect' clone + veg time would be twice the flower time - about 18 weeks. My first 3 plants were in veg for 15, 18, and 18 weeks. (They were from seed - not clones.) If I veg too fast, I might have to give up some of my strains.

Dude, you have one you the cleanest, most beautiful home setups that I have seen! Great job!

It only looks clean because I don't take many pictures of the floor

Oh - you meant Canyon's picture - His lights remind me of the lights over Fremont Streeet in Las Vegas. :)

Look at all those budness! Rad, you are growing great HB ladies, so pleasant to look at your grow! :thumb:  :Namaste:

I did the cat drench for Borderliner and Amherst Sour Diesel(ASD) today. 21 days in the flower area- Borderliner was at what I picture as the perfect size, ASD might have been one day too soon.

My single seed of ASD has been in the flower area for 3 weeks and her clones I took on graduation day aren't rooting. I may have to try rooting a flowering clone. I'd hate to lose a strain before my first harvest. I cut the clones a little short and I left a popsicle stick against one of the stems which made it hold water and rot the bottom inch. Today, I trimmed the stem and moved the stick. Trimming bad parts off a stem has worked before - but I don't have much stem left. Most of my cloning has gone smothly the last year or so, it's a shock when I mess it up.

No rotting stem and popsicle stick photos - I was in 'fix it now' mode :)

Replacing 1/2 gallon pots

Over on Sweetsue's thread, she mentioned light colored leaves and potentially being pot bound.
I am tired of looking at the yellow leaves in my 1/2 gallon pots, so I transplanted 2 of 3 plants.

Ace Lilly - roots concentrated near the bottom - the top of the soil dries out quickly

20170308_124715-1.jpg

Ace Lilly - 1/2 gal to 7 gal. I ran out of well aged soil, so the top 1.5 gallons are soil cooked for only 2 weeks.

20170308_124645-1.jpg

Ace mix - I only have the half cooked soil, but she needed transplanting, so I went from a 1/2 gallon to 1 gallon pot.

20170308_130403-1.jpg

This pot is a bit wider as well as taller, so I'm thinking she will be pleased for the next 2 weeks while the soil finishes cooking

20170308_130420-1.jpg

Ace Lilly's top cutting has nice roots and her leaves were starting to yellow at the edges - another cry for more soil ?

This leaves only the Tangerine Widow seedling in 1/2 gallon pot. She can hold out another 2 weeks :)
