Radogast's Hi-Brix Basement Grow - New Location - New Soil - New Experiences

Hey Rado! Sorry I'm late to the party, I was on a little break and didn't know you had a new one. First page looks great, I'll have to get caught up. :high-five::Namaste:

You are most welcome here. - The first page collage was from the previous perpetual grow in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. After 2 months, I'm still getting my rooms together, but it feels like the garden is settling in to a routine. Growing Hi-Brix is less work than I imagined - but there are still pieces of the puzzle to learn and experience.

I found a pair of trimming scissor yesterday, so that's a good sign. I'm still looking for my flowering room temp and humidity sensor :)

I left the California and Arizona a few years before they legalized Medical. I arrived in Massachusetts right before they legalized Medical and left just before they legalized Recreational. I should move more often !

You're like the Jonny Appleseed of legalization, but by the time sanity breaks out, you've left the scene lol.

Thanks for the warm welcome, and letting me look over your fence. :)

New plants look real lush, they are loving what you're doing, great work!

Tangerine Widow seed popped on the 3rd try

After one failure to germinate, one pot dumped on the ground, and one root wrapped around the seed and breaking soil root first - we have leaves.
I have some hope, but I also have a 4th seed started in another pot :)

Wrong way root Tangerine Widow - reported as (Tangerine x Blue Dream and Mango Haze) x AMS White Widow(probably)

Amherst Sour Diesel had a lot of new growth in the center of the plant, so I spread the main branches.

The lower center growth is now part of the canopy.

Sounds like your grow room is rounding into shape the way you want it. I guess besides improving it cosmetically, all that patching & coating will give you a better environment w/ more preferable temps & rH? You big container, open room guys amaze me with the size of your plants. Like outdoors inside! I have enough trouble controlling the run aways I sometimes get in my puny 2 gal. pots. :Namaste:

/me nods heads skeptically. - Like I produce anything close to your growth in my 4x6x7' Veg stall with -200 uMols (-50 uMols/plant.)

I'm hopng to do decent growth once I hit the 4x6x7' Flower stall with 1500 umol (350 uMols/plant)

Now that I have written it like that, maybe I should add 100x3W LED panels to my Veg stall. It should be OK for the little plants If I only supplement the end of the stall with the bigger plants, right?

I've always heard that our little ones do fine in veg under LED ~275-300w range. I even germinate under 300w LED because they seem to do so much better than under T5....at least for me brother. My T5's are retired for now. Then into 520w flower tent....same mfr. light so same spectrum & no stall like I've heard about. Bet you're excited to flower for 1st time in new home & grow room? :Namaste:

I always finished each veg plant, 10-15 inches tall, 60-80 days, under a 150 watt MH all to itself at ... 20 inches or so? :cheesygrinsmiley: They soaked it up happily.

The 100x3s run about 185 watts.

A heads up:
I was trying to purchase some more seeds from the EU... I think they are cracking down I was un-able to purchase seeds and I tried for several hours from the usual and a few unusual suspects. Not good... I usually purchase here from the USA (we have bigger balls I guess) but I was trying for some Dark Devils ... I finally found them in Canada... and have to pay by wire transfer!! I don't know why the crackdown... but it wasn't my bank (Canadian Bank) I called them several times .. So heads up if there's some strains that you like it might be a good time to stock up.... kinda strange after all these years. Seems like all of a sudden EU banks don't want to take credit cards from the USA for seeds ... very weird.

My sweetie orders medication from Canada. Just insulin... nothing touchy.
There has been some change in the political relationship between the 2 countries that has some sort of fallout in the way they can accept payment. No credit cards.... checks mailed to US address. Weird. Pain in the ass.

I applied about 20 lbs dry joint compound (4 gallons mixed.)

Good lord man... that's a whole day of muddin.
Did you fill in concrete with mud? That would seem problematic.... I bet you didn't do that.
Put a finish layer over your primer. You probably used the Kilz stuff. While it blocks growth, it does create a fairly rough surface texture that can hold onto dirt and moisture a touch more that a nice smooth finish coat... maybe an enamel even.
I know... over the top... color me crazy. I'd probably stop at the Kilz too.

Hey Rado, congrats on the seedling! Your training looks very nice, you are doing great job in your garden, what a handyman! Great photos, still patient to see the flowers there, hmmm  :Namaste:

Some ... sort of ... :) ... In some spots, I put mud over rock to replace cement over rock... above grade .. My dad was a baling wire and chewing gum farm boy... My favorite brand as a first time homeowner was called fix-all.. that means it's for everything, right?

When I fed and watered Borderliner, I gave her a good smoosh to make her flatter

So, is there going to be a smooshing thread starting? :laughtwo:

Seriously, that's been an essential technique for me and my scrog grows. I love seeing rapid transformation of bush into something manageable. Although I'm finding that with the kit if I wait too long they don't bend anymore. Getting me to break my procrastination habit, sort of. Not right now but maybe later. :) :Namaste:

I'll bet a nickel you'll be replacing that gum somewhere within a year.

I ran into walls in a unit that were just wood paneling with a skim coat on top to fill in the grooves in the paneling. Had to replace many feet from floor to ceiling. Sucked hard. There seems to be some finer touches in mudding and taping that are escaping 'ole Tead.

Was it Rad that put a nute bottle on top of their plant to 'smoosh' it?
Saw it somewhere a while ago....

Not me! Until I joined the Hi-Brix horde, I hadn't touched a nute bottle in over a year. (And yes, I had low yield plants,)

I wouldn't bet against you. The dust sources and bat entrances are mudded closed. For now. We'll see what the future brings :)

Looking at the flower room today, I realized I will only have 5' between the slightly raised floor and the bottom of the light hoods.

Not quite true, I put the flower area together and measure 70" not the 60" (5') above. It seems I subtracted 10" twice :)

70" is 5" less than I had before, but not 15" less, so I can work with that :) :thumb:

so ....

I have a Hawaiian Skunk (non-fem) seed soaking in water. This will be the last of my seeds for awhile (unless I need to replace a male.) I will be cloning the veg girls as I put them into flower.

The temp and humidity in Veg. The heater is on while the lights are. The girls are cooling off at night, but only to the 60s.

Flower area hardware

I washed and/or dusted off the old flower area equipment and plugged everything into a new, dedicated, GFCI 20 amp circuit. One the the dual 600W HPS bulbs failed after it's mukti-state ride in the moving van. Fortuitously it was the cheap bulb I purchased almost 3 years ago rather than the one with only 2 months use :) If anyone has a favorite bulb for under $100, I'll consider it. As far as I can tell, all HPS bulbs perform pretty much alike.

The hood glass hasn't been so clean in years. The inside stayed clean by itself.

For some reason I forgot to place the timer within easy reach. If needed, I can unplug it, make changes, and plug it back in.

P.S. I still need to build the front wall before I can start using it to flower !
