Radogast 2 - Return of the Clones

This was why my soil didn't get inoculated until it was already growing. I had ordered a myco product with trichoderma in it and didn't want to let it loose in my soil mix, so I ordered one that didn't have it included. It's really devious how they do that.

I would really like to try adding mycorrhizae to my seedlings root zone.

How about dipping a toothpick in myco powder and having the soil?

How about sucking a tiny amount into the tip of a 2ml bulb syringe and squeezing when underground?

In anticipation of a team of HVAC technicians replacing my Furnace/boiler today,
I placed all the pots in the (locking) flower room under a single hps.

The HVAC team decided not to face the 13" of falling snow, so they are rescheduled for Wednesday.
Since every school within 50 miles was closed, I support their decision.

I think I'll leave at least two of the yellow buckets girls under the HPS to see if they prefer the light.

I poked holes with a toothpick, sprinkled myco and watered it in with a tight, powerful stream. Anything that will get it into the root zone.

Just did a quick rough estimate pricing for the soil I want to make. I want to make about 1/2cu. yard. The pricing was all done on-line including shipping I'm looking at around $420. I am going to call Concentrates to ask about pricing for the items I need.

It looks like they don't have Neem Seed Meal or Lava Rock. NBD. Those will be easy to come by.

CO, should i get the Tidal or Acadian Kelp meal? The Acadian says OMRI and the Tidal says Organic. What's with the DO NOT FEED. Is that referring to animals and not soil? That's what I figure, just wondering if that was a correct thought.

If you're on a river boat in Louisiana you are doing just fine in general, but yes that's a good saying for a river boat, I think :)

Check out what I just found out about in my area. It's currently only available on Saturdays from 7am-10am so it will be hard to get my hands on it, but I just might try to get some of this. Zoo Doo | Oregon Zoo

I think it would be awesome for the compost portion of the soil mixture. Compost made from giant-ass herbivores dung and their bedding!

And for my future worms

and for a mulch.

Gotta figure out how to get there.

Check out the zoo in your area, maybe you can get some rhino shit too :)

I think Portland is a very cool and progressive city, they have been composting and giving it away since '88 at the zoo I read. That is a great idea. I'd caution you to look into what nasty residuals may be in the animals poop, though. I wouldn't use chicken shit from a Tyson farm in my soil, I wonder what the zoo's pump into those animals, to keep them in a zoo setting.

Just a caution, call the zoo up and tell them you are an organic gardener growing sensitive plants (not true), and ask them what the animals receive other than food while they are at the zoo.

I have some Portland acquaintances(some if the Yogi Tea people) who have used zoo-doo in their veggy gardens.
I never heard any complaints but I never really asked for details. :)

Welcome FairyFHaroman

I hope you find something among the mess and confusion to amuse, entertain and educate.

AND IT IS A MESS IN THE BASEMENT!
In the last week, two snowstorm and snow accumulations over 2 ft outside, 4 visits from the HVAC Crew including 2 for water leakage from the newly installed boiler/heater, one power failure, about 10 hours with the snow shovels and ice tools, 2 days where I had to commute in below zero temperature, 3 days in which I lost heat in the garden room, and about 15 sessions vacuuming water in the basement.

All the plants are doing fine.

Some of my coco coir got wet. It was just starting to smell, so I used it to add a second tray to the worm farm.
The farm is up to 4 trays stacked on each other- a four story apartment tower.

The worms reportedly like to be in the top 3 inches of soil, but the first floor is not done processing. So I set up the second story with coir, basalt dust, shredded paper, and a chopped banana peel. After some worms migrated to the new second story, I rearranged the trays so I have an active first and third floor and empty second and fourth floors. I don't know how one is suppose to keep all 4 floors productive, but this buys me a few weeks to find out.

At least 4 shipments of Living Organic Soil amendments are due to arrive Saturday. With locally sourced rock and sphagnum peat moss, I'll be ready to mix the soil. Then I can start earning my bones as an organic herbalist :)

You survived!!! :cheertwo:

Dale just said "this is why you live on the top floor of an apartment building. No flooding."

I feel your frustration.

The worm thing sounds just like something I would do. Put it off and let me consider. Just buy me a day or so. :laughtwo:

Stayed home sick today (head cold.)

Worm poo, humid acid and neem powder arrived in the mail from Build A Soil.

If I go with a lava rock SWICK, I'll need a plan to carry 1/2 ton home.
Find someone with a pickup truck? Dump it on top of the snow until the ground thaws?

Another visit from the HVAC crew, with emergency instructions how to make it through the weekend if the furnace still leaks.

I tried to email order a gift for the ancestors on Thursday AM. No response.
If the spirits want their gifts, they'll need to smooth out a few bumps! I think I'll go have a word.

Snowed in again today.

Started vermicompost tea using 1.5 cups Worm Power worm castings and 2oz unsulphured molasses.
Started this morning, should be ready tomorrow night.

Fed and misted the worms.

I used a small bulb syringe to inject all the root zones with mycorrhizae powder.
I direct dipped into the bag, sucked up about 0.05ml powder,
then poked the end of the syringe into the root zone, and puffed out the powder.
Repeating several times per plant.
