QT's Second Grow - 1st Journal

re: QT's Second Grow - 1st Journal

Yes, I can increase the distance. I started out having the light 18 inches above the plants but then I had lowered it to 10. I placed my hand on the top of the plant to see if I could feel the heat from the light. I felt heat but not enough to burn me so I figure the plants are not getting burned. That's the problem really, I don't have enough room to tie down anymore. When I do they end up getting caught in each others branches. So the ones not tied down I have just been letting grow up.

So you got 8 more inches before you run out of room???

No, I read that the light should be 18 inches away to prevent burn but I learned that was wrong since I had it down to 10.

it works thats all i care about
:high-five:

Thanks for the link. I have seen that one before. One of the ones I thought were for an aquarium. I will try to get that on my next check at the beginning of the month.

And I did raise the lights back up...@Miwa and Aston..

if you are trying to get a perfect height on them, good luck there brotha!!! 12 - 18 inches over the canopy is ideal when using a HPS system... 2 ways of making sure that it is at a good level!!!

1. use a light meter and put it at the top of the canopy, middle, and the bottom of the plant. if the lower part of the plant is still getting the light, then there you go...

2. Heat - if your light is to low, you can burn the tops!!!

Sorry...`i was asking Queen if she could raise her lights..my situation is under control...

Yes, I can raise my lights and did. Also, yes I do have more room to raise them. I will just have to take the bottom shelf out of my closet which ain't no thing but a chicken wing...lol...

Aston--that light meter app you sent me confused the hell outta me. I place my hand right on the very top of the plant, I automatically feel the heat from the light but it is not burning my hand so I assume it is not burning the plants..Correct?

Not much to update, watered and gave nutes. These ladies really seem to be sucking it up. I mean I water til I see runoff but next thing I know they're dry again...Remember I still have two in soil and one mixed with soil and coco. Temp is at 78 and humidity is at 38.

.

place a thermometer at the canopy level, remember what JC said!! you want to keep it less than 80 at the canopy or you can even lose out on ounces!!!

re: QT's Second Grow - 1st Journal

Hey Queen- I went to a Growing 101 class at one of our dispencaries the other day. The guy has a degree in horticulture and botony. He stated that the optimal temp range is 74-78 degrees. He also stated that cellular breakdown starts when temps get to 84 degrees and down to 68 degrees. SO he says optimal conditions should be 74-78. I don't necessarily agree but am sharing anyway.

Thanks for that info. At the moment the temp is 81. There are times when it does hit 80 but I never let it get higher than that with exception of today. I moved the fan closer to try to lower it a bit..

Well we finally have sex...*having that after sex ciggy*..lol...I just noticed that I believe plant 3 is a male, I think them there was balls. I will post a pic later for confirmation. But first I wanna play with the pics like Aston does..lol. But it is so pretty that I don't wanna kill it. If I let it stay it will make my ladies have seeds. Now I know normally that would be considered a bad thing. I am thinking I may let him impregnate the girls just because of how awesome he is and the next generation will be better. What do you think? As for the other two, they seem to be ladies, I don't see any balls. One thing I have noticed is that it seems like the male matures way faster than the females.

males do get taller and are ready faster so they can pollinate the female as soon as possible, i say do it , free seed is a major boon! but i would control it so you dont get a whole crop of heavily seeded females, 1 male can produce enough pollen for thousands of seeds and a female fully impregnated can produce 1 seed for every calyx thats also in the thousands, when the male is about ready remove him to another room, and, when you see pollen all over his leaves you can collect some and pollinate several lower branches on your females that way you can still have the best top buds free of seed, well mostly, theres several good ways to do this, and theres lots of info in the seeds section here on :420:
i always makes seed if i have a male, seems silly not to, its FREE SEED!!:thumb::thumb:

Hmmm, the thing is I have no where to move him other than out of the closet but still in the same room. It has only been one week of flower as of today, when should he start releasing pollen? And not sure what to do about him getting light because once I take him out the closet, the only light he would have is daylight. I don't have any cfls to spare unfortunately. And I am guessing that my clone is going to be a male too then?

re: QT's Second Grow - 1st Journal

queen , if all this pics are from the same plant i would place my bet on poline sacks , but im a noob so dont trust my bet :P (hope im wrong though)

Yes, all are from plant 3. I am thinking the same that it is a male. Just cause you're a noob doesn't mean I don't value your opinion nor does it mean you can't be right....
