Prof's Lab: Diary Of A Bedroom Farmer

I still have my eyes on the Tashkurghan.

I don't expect a huge yield from that one yet but it might produce an amazing amount of frost in the end. I've tasted several Afghani landraces because I live kinda close to there and had the chance to meet with some guys. They are cooking amazing hash with these plants. Nugs are mostly not huge and dense but Afghani genetics really hit the mark when you smoke in whatever form. They also love taryak(opium) and smoke it with weed from a shisha. That is not everyones piece of cake. These guys are definately the biggest fans of narcotic effects.

Seems like the more narcotic hash is the most revered. They even let the plants die and dry in the field so there’s a lot of amber trichomes to enhance that narcotic effect.

@ilikemsticky has Baluchistan going right now.
Cheers Penny. I'll check it out when I get the chance.
Looking fantastic, Prof! :circle-of-love::ganjamon:

This! Also, I highly recommend needle-nosed pliers with some duct tape wrapped around them. Necessary? No. But you can get some amazingly precise bends, and pliers seem to lessen the chances of breakage by applying straight lines and uniform pressure.
Another great tip. Some of the plants had a woody feel to the stems and those ones weren't so bad but a couple had a soft celery-like feel to them. Those are the ones which snap bad

Thanks for the heads up TC. I have been doing plenty of reading about landrace Afghans but until I harvest one it is all new to me. So far I really can't fault them but it all comes down to what I end up with in the jar. I'm certain that I have only ever had hybrid indicas but I have tried some Thai sativa's before. The quality was crap though as it was really dry and didn't feel as potent as is often described.

If you were to try and imitate that indoors would you continue to water the pot or just let the whole thing dry up over the course of a few weeks?

Back again. So after a couple of weeks here is what we have to play with now that the plants have all stopped dying....
DSC03363.JPG

These 8 are healthy enough to flower now so I will do that tomorrow....
DSC03364.JPG

We are back in soil and I'm using my own mix which is a little concerning. I have used compost, coco and wood chips though I have removed most of the larger pieces. The compost was also sieved this time to remove any large bones or wood. I checked the soil ph and it came in at 5.9 so I have added a tablespoon of dolomite lime for every 10ltrs of soil. It is now reading about 6.6 which is better.

Here are the next contenders.

The Balkh.

I have revived the Balkh and cured it of root rot. Not only that but we have 2 successful clones to play with as well. One will be kept back as a potential mother/father and the other will be planted outdoors tomorrow to face the British weather....
DSC03365.JPG

The Tashkurgan.

I saved this one as well. I had pretty much given up on it but decided to try and clone it. The branches were tiny so I just cut the plant off at the base and cloned it that way. It took a while but it worked. This plant is one of the smaller of this round and its sex is still undetermined....
DSC03368.JPG

Unknown Afghan.

Not much is known about this one other than it's an indica from one of 4 places in northern Afghanistan. It is starting to show some beautiful leaves....
DSC03367.JPG

Unknown Afghan #2.

Same as before but this one is a female. It is starting to grow bushy like the Balkh did before I cleaned it up....
DSC03366.JPG

Pineapple Express #2.

I nearly didn't enter this one as I thought that it needed a little more time to recover. I discovered that the 3rd unknown Afghan was a male so needed a replacement. This one is a fem....
DSC03370.JPG

Chocolatina x Chocolatina.

A cross created by @Lewydeville. It was starting to get a bit root bound in the previous pot but is moving ahead again since the transplant. Fingers crossed for a female as sex is undetermined. Looks like a nice little plant so far though....
DSC03369.JPG

Unknown Fem.

Not quite unknown and is in fact one of 3 strains. I mixed up some beans so it should be fun trying to guess which one it could be. The options are Sativa Dream, Flowerbomb Kush or Blue Cindy....
DSC03371.JPG

Unknown Fem #2.

The second fem from the previously mentioned mix-up. The 3rd fem didn't make it which makes guessing more fun....

Hi prof. Been a long time for us both Buddy. Seems we are in synch still with life and the garden, flipped 1 day back . lots of drama in the grow to leave me with 3 beauties amd 4 absolute LGBGT candidates in nft. Heatwave murder amd root rot dilemmas. Never flowered so few before but will give the new mars a good run out on the big canopy created in los. Good to see so much new life in the bedroom and only from the plants and not lockdown babies. Just about escaped that one. Lol looking good mate. Hopefully get sone time with the 420 fam again now the world is getting back to some normalish ways.
Peace and health mate

You got slammed in the summer too eh? I have honestly lost count of how many plants I have killed in this thread now lol. Since I ditched the coco everyone is happy again despite there being more pests now. Not so many fungus gnats though which have plagued me in recent months.
Your survivors are looking good. I'll be over to check out what is happening

I did similar with last run. Left them nearly a week in the dark before chopping down.

This morning I took these....

That is 4 of the X18's turning up for the party but since taking those pics the 5th has shown as well.
There are a lot of weeds sprouting in the pots which is going to happen a lot with the homemade potting soil. We will be removing blackberries, wild strawberries, grasses, dandelions, tomatoes and much, much more lol. If you look in the pics you can also see worm eggs lying on top of the soil. At least I hope they are worm eggs. Knowing my luck they are slugs.
We should be seeing some of the Afghans turn up in the next couple days as well as I can see some movement.

Hey 420. Well it seems that making my own potting mix for indoor use might not have been such a good idea. This morning I went and checked on my new seedlings and noticed something strange. One of the X18's (the one which was last to pop up) looked a little sickly. I has a closer look and could see that it had dozens of bugs eating it alive. I thought that it was mutated or something but what I could see was a mass of white mites. Maybe they weren't mites but what ever they were they did some serious damage. I wrote that seedling off but didn't throw it away and instead sprayed it with Provanto bug killer. Almost immediately after spraying it the bugs retreated and haven't returned. The seedling to my surprise is still growing but it doesnt look good. I checked all of the other seedlings but couldn't find anymore bugs so I sprayed them anyway as a preventative. I really hope they weren't spider mites but after serching google that was the only thing which came close to what I saw. This is what it looked like this morning....

The lighting wouldn't let me take a decent close up pic but you can just about see them.
This is what they did to my baby. How is this seedling still alive?....

I see you!....

I have had a bit of a shift around to make room for the new arrivals....
DSC04090.JPG

We have 8 up and are still awaiting on 4 more. I will have to think of something as I can fit 4 more pots in here but not another 2 trays. They are paired up in little trays to make the watering a little easier....

Balkh male (left) and Miami Heat male (right)....

The others being the two Malana's, the 2 Chocolatina x Guicy Banger's, the Chocolatina x Cheap Trick and the Crumbled Lime x unknown have been put in the cupboard to continue to grow as were running out of space in the veg tent....
DSC04102.JPG

I will clean the cupboard out before any flowering takes place lol.
Also I root pruned the Malana's and CL x Unknown today as they were showing some symptoms of being root bound. They were and should improve again...

This is what they did to my baby. How is this seedling still alive?

Brutal scenes, Prof! Sorry to hear about the seedling. Is it affecting the others?

Nice game of tetris between the cupboard and veg tent, and the flowering tent looks excellent!

Cheers sye. I just went and checked on that seedling and it is still growing. I think if I had discovered the bugs 10 minutes later then it would probably be dead.
The rest look fine but those things are so small that they are probably everywhere. Hopefully they aren't spider mites because the whole grow room is at risk if they are. I will need to get some more close ups to check the plants properly.

Hope you are well buddy

Yeah that's amazing it's still going. I hope the problem is not pervasive!
Haha I'm all good mate. Had a weeklong drama with a rootbound seedling, but all's well now. Life is chill :thumb:

I believe that broad or hemp russet mites can be seen with the naked eye.
Top dress with DE. Most of the mite remedies are soy or rosemary oil to suffocate them.

Is life still chill? I root pruned a few of mine the other day as they looked on the turn. All are happy again now.
They looked too big to be spider mites but it could be an illusion because they were on the seedling. Tough one Professor.
It seems to be all good again and I can't find any now. They were tiny and I'm still trying to work out what they are. That seedling took a proper beating but is still going. I wouldn't say its doing well but it will recover

I googled hemp russet mites but I don't think they were the same thing. These looked bigger then russet mites but smaller than spider mites lol. I got some ISO to clean my grinders and jars so I have given everything in the grow room a spray except for the Gorilla Glue which will be coming down very soon. I'm certain they are some kind of mite though so I will still look into the oil
