Prof's Lab: Diary Of A Bedroom Farmer

Hey 420! I've been busy as hell again recently but I do have few little updates for you all. We have successfully managed to clone another plant in the jar in under two weeks. These are the pics of the jar from 2 days ago which was day 9 in the jar....

It is day 11 today and I had a quick look earlier but didn't have time for a pic. I will get a pic later for you though.
One of them is ready to be planted but the other has only just started to show a little root. For my next trick I'm going to cut a plant in half and try and clone a very large cutting. Well, perhaps not very large but much bigger than normal. I don't know what it is but this is the most success I have ever had with cloning. Wish me luck

I cleaned my jars and evaporated the ISO over night out in the garden. Why did I do it on parchment paper lol. To be fair it comes off much easier than the bubble hash but don't taste half as good. Some of this stuff is maybe up to a year old though so it is hardly surprising that the flavour isn't out of this world. Got quite a bit though. I thought that you might like this @TriangleCheese....

Nice work Prof. :passitleft:

I can add a few words about taste being not as good as bubble hash because I did the same thing with ethanol and the taste was out of this universe :) I am also a big fan of any kind of hash and I adore the bubble hash taste as I utilize my trim that way sometimes. Extracts should taste better but not with iso. I also tried iso extracts several times and the resulting product coming from ethanol is f*ck*ng superior. Residues of ethanol is not harmful for you unlike iso. Potencywise, iso extracts can be a little more potent than ethanol but I don't think there will be much difference.

Another thing to note that there are too many particles inside your print. You might want to use an unbleached coffee filter to greatly improve the taste of such products. You can also add a second filtering phase, which is called winterization. You just take the filtered liquid and put it into the freezer at max setting for 48 hours. Then you filter this thing again but you leave the bottom of the jar alone because this part is where the lipids and unwanted waxes gathered after winterization. They fall like snowflakes and you end up with an even more pure product on the top layer.

If you like the bubble hash taste, definately try extracting with ethanol. The best way of extracting for me is blasting fresh nugs with butane and then winterising the filtered crude oil with ethanol. If you want to skip the butane phase, you can get a bigass pollen shaker to collect kief, preferably with dry ice. If you shake your trim or schwag with dry ice for 20 seconds, you get almost everything out but lots of plant tissue. You can shake this fine quality kief with ethanol for 10-15 seconds and filter for winterization. Remember, first extraction phase is about filtering the chlorophyll. Butane does a fine job, whereas the pollen shaker does a little bit more coarse job but both methods are proven to produce very pure stuff.

I went with the ISO because I though that I could kill 2 birds with one stone. Cleaning and killing. The amount of life in my tents since going with the homemade mx is incredible. Most of it seems pretty harmless, though as I have already witnessed, some of it is out to get me.
Thanks for the advice on the filtration and winterisation. I was in a bit of a rush with this attempt and really just wanted some clean jars for the forthcoming nugs. Fresh start and all. I didn't clean everything and still have a couple grinders to do as well as the bubble kit which is getting clogged up already. I will definitely be cleaning that before the next run.
I have considered trying out butane extracts as rosin presses are just out of my league right now. I wouldn't use it enough to justify the purchase. I prefer the classic joint over all else so it would just sit there for most of the time lol.
I dont think I have safe enough practices for messing with butane right now. The kids would be screaming in one ear, the misses in the other and I would be blown to pieces in the middle.

I do the same thing when it comes to cleaning. Its rubbing alcohol after all :)

Btw. you can smoke extracts in joints but you have to use tobacco to properly burn the weed and therefore with the weed burning you will be able to burn the extract properly. Only trick is to rest your joint for 20-25 seconds between puffs.

Is life still chill? I root pruned a few of mine the other day as they looked on the turn. All are happy again now.

Thankfully yes. Especially relative to some other parts of the world. And my seedling bounced back with a vengeance, so, onward!

Fantastic news on the successful cloning so far!

@FelipeBlu had a huge branch fall off his plant and he managed to get that rooted and growing again. Good luck!

Seems that one of my seedlings has gone mouldy lol. My mycorrhiza is better than your mycorrhiza!....

Congrats on the surprise adoption!

Hey 420. Gotta few updates just to show my face.

One of the Malana's in the jar has been potted up but the other has yet to show any roots. I'm eager to move on so I may ditch the second one and keep the one which rooted quickly. It is my favourite of the 2 plants so there is that. I want to get some cuttings off of the Chocolatina crosses as they are nice looking plants and I also would like to cut the Crumbled Lime cross in half and have a go at trying to root that one. Here are the Malana Cream cuttings....

One of them had roots showing by day 9 but this pic is around day 13....

I finally pulled the trigger on a dehumidifier as it has been relentless again. I am currently trying to dry some buds but it is impossible to do in these conditions....
DSC04200.JPG

Been like that on and off for a couple weeks now and my flowers were drier a few days ago than they are now. Hopefully this problem will now be a thing of the past.

We have low RH here, I chopped 1 plant today and I’m hoping it drys without getting mold.
I wonder why I don't get more mold than I do. I just can't get the buds past a certain point. There has been a leaf sat on the side as an experiment to see how long it takes to dry and it is still wet after about 2 weeks. Ridiculous working conditions lol

Everything looking on point, I’m still watching the Tashkurghan
The Tashkurghan is pretty cool. I'm going to cross it with the Balkh male to see what he brings to the game. I will cross it (Balkh) with the Unknown Afghan #2 as well
That RH is crazy, that’s like drying in a refrigerator
See what I mean. F'ng mental lol

Man...

It's pretty brutal TC. Dehumidifier is on the way!

These bucks will be the best bucks you've ever spent Prof. If your grow area doesn't have open windows like mine, you'll have total control over humidity. Brand of my device is Zibro(I guess 210W) but they are being sold as Qlima in some regions. %55 on veg? No problem. %45 on bloom? Done. You are already growing magnificent stuff and trust me, it will get even better :passitleft:

It is a sealed up room so we should be happy from now on. It has been long overdue TC.
Hoping to run a couple of pure sativas this winter. Hoping others have Afghans or Pakistani we can cross for F1 hybrids.
Speaking of Pure sativas, I managed to get one Highland Laos from the pack. I was warned and it seemed to be right about the poor germination rate. I actually had 3 sprout but 2 didn't have any leaves and were just a set of cotyledons and nothing else. I'm hoping it is female but if it is a male then I could cross it with one of the afghans. These pics were taken a couple days ago and it is growing fast. I will do a proper update on it soon....
