Phantom’s RDWC Cherry Cookies Grow Journal

Awesome job! Transitions are where issues are more likely to occur and you cared for your ladies as needed to make it through the storm.

I'm also super jealous about cloning. Idk why but since I started growing again I have had zero success cloning. Both strains I tried were sativa heavy but I'm not sure if that is a factor or just in my head.

Anyways, great to see plants in your set up. I also appreciated the MC dosage info as I do plan to follow your lead on a set up like this.

Here's to smooth sailing :passitleft:

I will probably top the two plants I have left to do at the end of the week as a last set of clones from this stock. It would be the second generation of clones removed from the original seed plant (whom I killed btw which is why there’s no more photos of her flowering, left her outside in full sun when it was 106F).

I won’t be using my cloner this go around as I haven’t had success going from hydroponic clones to soil. I want these two to grow in soil so I can try feminizing seeds on them outdoors. I’ll probably just cut them, dip them in the Clonex (maybe one in my Walmart rooting powder for comparison), and straight to a peat puck with a humidity dome of some sorts.

As for the MC dosage I started out, I believe, below where I should be because I wasn’t dosing much in the cloner. I’ll see how they are reacting when deciding to go up 0.25 or 0.5 grams per gallon this weekend, before giving them the gas and start burning tips. They weren’t under powerful lights in the cloner either, two 2’ plant LEDs from Walmart. Now they are getting their first real taste under the LEDs (which I have at about 50-60% @ 30”). I’ll lower them a little further over the week then slowly start turning them up.

My next decision is when to flip them if I need them harvested by the deadline I’ve given myself of September 6th. I’ve been looking into Cherry Pie and Girl Scout Cookies grows, since they are the supposed parents of this seed assuming it was pollenated by another Cherry Cookies plant, to find how many days it took from the flip to harvest and I’m getting around 65-80 days. I’m thinking tentatively June 28th we flip these ladies and shoot for 70 days. Objections, anyone?

Yes, that is correct with the lighting. I don’t think I will be underpowered but I know I won’t be breaking records either. We’re also talking about something that is advertised as 240w and will pretty much pull that at the wall and not something that’s advertised as 2000w and only pulls 480w at the wall.

Lights on so I went in and checked everything, the lady in the back was looking wilty again so I gave her some more water, as well as the rest. I’m sure it has to be stressful going from having a handful of roots just floating in the water sucking it up to just a few hairs touching it. I’ll continue to baby them until they recover. My pH seems to be stable at 6.4 finally so I started pH downing to 5.6. Also noticed my temperature has continued to fall and is now below my house setting of 79F at a cool 76F, I’m more than happy with that, the cloner they came out of was at 89F at the end! Haha Hydroguard seriously goes a long way, I still haven’t even picked up my Z7 yet.

Cherry pie is one of my all time favorite smokes. I don't have first hand knowledge of the flowering time but with a 10 week flowering, I'd say you are safe .

"Cherry pie is one of my all time favorite smokes".
I think this dictates all your decisions lol.. you are going hard for this species and I think that's cool.. The Sept deadline sounds fine if you've maximized veg potential or have got everything you wanted out of the veg state. Maybe a week more in veg wont kill you ? but ultimately comes down to what your brain is telling you to do and how the plant is speaking to you .. if it's ready or not..

I can’t really deal with the heat they throw out. I’m usually running my ac 8 months out of the year and 80F is what I have it set for since that’s cool and comfortable to me. I have two other tents to set up that will all go in the same room, (6) 600w HIDs would turn the room or my whole house into a sauna. I ran with LEDs specifically for the temps. If I end up finding out I need more power for flowering, I’ll up the lighting I need to buy for my other two tents and keep these two boards for one of the tents I’ll run for vegging. I’m pretty sure it’s my overall wattage that has you concerned and not the amount of light in my photos but if it is the photos, just know I’ve been turning the LEDs all the way down as low as they can go (20% power) for all my photos, so my tent does look dark. If I turn them up all the way when I try to take photos I end up like Clark Griswold’s neighbors when he turns his Xmas lights on. Haha

I was thinking it looked a little dim but now that you say they are turned down for the pic I am more confident in your lights (for what it's worth).

Damn, 80F I would be dying but it gets to negative 30 from time to time where I stomp around.

I did grow up in Northern MN most of my life and I’m still built for the cold. I die down here from May to September but I think it’s not much difference than the winters back home. 80F right? Haha my friends think I’m crazy too but 80 feels nice compared to 110!

I just went to add some wet towels to wrap around the coil in my min fridge to help cool it more and found out I’ve only been running it set on 3 vs on high at 6. I think that should help cool things off a bit more.

Just got caught up on this, and all I can think is WOW, that is an incredible RDWC you have there. How much did it cost for you to get it setup like that?

Are you really going to want me to think of that? Haha here’s the ballpark break down of everything I’ve bought:

4.5’x4.5’ tent - $95
(2) 240w LEDs - $495
(5) 27 gallon totes - $50
(6) 2” bulkheads - $45
(4) 6” net pots and hydroton - $25
(2) 800gph pumps - $55 (probably gets swapped for a sump pump)
4 outlet PEX manifold - $15
2” piping and fittings - $60
DIY mini fridge chiller - $35
Hanna pH/ppm/EC/temp probe - $200
Miscellaneous tools/paint/parts - $100
(2) mini fans - $20 (will eventually upgrade to a more central air type setup with a humidifier once all three tents are setup)
Nutrients (22lb bag of Mega Crop plus supplements for backups), 1 gallon pH down, 1 qt Hydroguard, and 1 qt Z7 - $150

I think that’s it for the entire setup.

Personally, I think you'll end up running 2 Hydro tents for efficency reasons if all goes well just to get better control of your energy bills and theres only so much weed you can smoke in a year.. 3rd tent could be used for flowering/finishing off plants or pollination. I just have this feeling you'll tweak things down to a science where the 3rd tent becomes redundant or an energy sucker.

theres only so much weed you can smoke in a year..

I never thought I would get to a point where I grew faster than I can smoke but I'm watching the jars stack up with just one 4x4 flowering and a 2x4 veg

Yeah I think once I actually start having those issues I’ll start to worry. I was thinking about running a dozen or so autos in soil in one of the tents instead but I can just do that outside here most of the year. I will at some point probably throttle back but until then full send.

I really like my oil and sauces, like a few hundred bucks a week like. I’m hoping for Xmas I get myself a 2-4lb closed loop butane extractor with a dewaxing sleeve and a vacuum oven or two. At which point having 3 tents running might supply me with enough oil and sauce to keep me in a coma and believe me none of this is for resale, all personal use. My whole purpose is to grow a plant I enjoy growing and to remove myself from the whole dispensary/sales industry not for saving money but my career. I currently drive 3.5 hrs one way to a recreational state to buy even though my state is medical and I would have a reason for a card. I can’t get a card because it would be a career ended move and I’m only in my 30’s. I also need to get away from transporting it, I only smoke at home and once I get it to my house it doesn’t leave. If I were to get caught with what I come back with from the dispensary, hello felony, goodbye career. Once I make my own oil and sauces I’ll be self sufficient and relieved I’m not longer risking my career.

Anyways...I probably will end up right where you say I’ll be, running two tents perpetually and the third for dicking around in. For now I’m shooting for a 5 gallon pail of oil so I can walk around my house with just a shirt on, dipping my hands into a jar under my arms for some dabs, just like Winnie the Pooh would do. Haha

You and me have a lot in common

That butane setup sounds awesome. Have you ever considered going the dabpress route? I got one once I started growing again and I love it. I've been using it for coconut oil, honey, and vaporizing it, not to mention lathering joints in it (might be my favorite way to use it).

:laughtwo: :laughtwo: :laughtwo: "Anyways...I probably will end up right where you say I’ll be, running two tents perpetually and the third for dicking around in. It's only cause I respect the hell out of your knowledge and ability to MacGyver your way through problem solving solutions. I think the bottom line is making shit work for you without having to go high end to do it.. Theres allot of satisfaction in problem solving.

The butane setup is awesome but not cheap by any means. I plan on setting up the corner of my garage as a sort of clean room to do my extractions in. What really sold me on it is just having to do a minor wet trim before freezing and then extracting. I’ll still trim and cure a few nice big buds once I start extracting but not much. I don’t have the patience for trimming and curing, I use it all up watching the plants grow. The solvent vs non-solvent extraction I prefer solvent, in my mind you’ll recover more using a solvent vs non-solvent. CO2 takes too long and is way too complex of a process of different heat/pressure/times for certain terpenes, thc, and cbd to be extracted, some runs taking 8-10 hours. Butane it seems like you pretty much blast it for an hour, recover the butane, then boil off any remaining in the vacuum oven.

MacGyvering is what I grew up doing on our family farm. Hell when I was 12 I built and welded a 2 seat go cart with a roll cage. Built the whole thing from scratch, even the steering wheel I roll formed out of round stock. I’m currently remodeling my home as well, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom completed.

Congrats on the remodeling! I'm doing basically our whole house. So far I've done the living room basement, kitchen and a bedroom. Next up is the master suit. The only time I want to be 80 or higher in my house is in my to be sauna :yahoo:

Many battles were won and lost with my wife but I never gave up on my sauna
