Pennywise Strikes Again

That is SO spot on right there, I don't even soak my seeds and they pop in 3-4 days with no issues. I grow Baobab trees so I know about soaking seeds and how it speeds up germination tremendously. I did the paper towel method MANY MOONS ago and I just didn't get it(it worked, but wasn't any faster). It was actually(a little) slower than dropping straight to perfect air to water ratio soil with risk of damaging the seedling. NO risk straight to soil, or plug, or whatever starting medium you are using. I use the 18oz solo cups and if you put a baggie over the top you don't even have to mist. I do this with my Baobab seedlings and it helps opening up the leaves and not drying out from wind circulation. I haven't found it necessary to put a sammich bag over cannabis seeds, i do mist the top if it gets a little dry, you don't want that seed to dry out opening up. :Namaste:

I usually mist but don’t use a dome or covering on seedlings or clones. I’ve always heard paper towels can damage tap roots and hairs. So I’m done with paper towels

A seed only has so much stored energy to use while germinating and establishing the beginning of its root system. You don’t want the seedling expending that energy in a paper towel.

i will watch them as soon as the seed just cracks no tail i put it in the soil nothing to harm there!
That's how I will try. just slightly cracked, No tail. Do you keep a close eye on them ? I have had seeds that were not cracked when I go to bed but then the next morning they have a tail.

Im gonna start off by saying snowhigh is probably 10x more experienced at growing pot than me.

That said, I gotta say I really don’t like the advice of bleaching your seeds. There are microbes that adhere themselves to the seeds from the mother plant that go on to colonize the soil. These Inherited microbes are integral to the way cultivars express their secondary/tertiary compounds (read terpenes and esters). That is, if you remove the heritage microbes you might not get the smells and flavors youre expecting/the strain is know for. Also these microbes, and the microbes in the soil (if you don’t sterilize and especially if you use EWC) will do a lot to ward off things like pythium, fusarium, and other fungal pathogens. They cloak the chemical signals that seedlings put off so that the spores of these pathogens are unable to locate the tap root.

i think indoors and with soilless growers sterilization is probably a good idea, cause you’re not planning to colonize with beneficials at any point... but with organics, starting with sterilization is potentially a detrimental move.

I use to use the expanding peat pellets. Dropped those in favor of rapid rooters and success rate improved significantly. I was popping 2 beans for every plant I wanted, now just one. In a year of it I've only had one seed not pop, and it was semi-sketchy to begin with.

So now it’s a soak, into the mostly wrung-out rooter, and onto the wicking mat under the seedling dome that sits on a heat mat.

First seedling up means the vents on the dome get opened up, and we go from there. Once all up and all have true leaves, the dome is off. This is unless the dome is too moist even with the vents open, and then I crack the lid too.

After a few days au naturalé, it’s off to their new home in whatever tent.
