Pennywise Does SOG Pheno Hunts Fall 2018

Happy New Year Penny and crew!

I know how important ph is in hydro and just about every medium. Having said that, there are lots of folks running LOS and not ph’ing their water. I personally just harvested three autos that never once received any ph testing of the water throughout the entire grow. Throw your ph meter away because the soil is buffered to a certain ph and all the flushing in the world will do very little to change it. Doc spent a long time balancing his kit for this specific ph. I believe soil ph is around 6.4.

You want a lazy, boring way to grow. Organic soil.

On the subject of water, I run RO as that is what Doc Buds almost insists on. I believe it reduces the likelihood that you kill the microbes in the soil and that is what are breaking down the nutrients for your plant.

Stoneotter, I have really high lime in my tap water here. It causes magnesium lockout even when growing in coco with LeD grow lights. Worst part was I thought they needed more calmg :)
I can tell you that I typically got mag lockout around week 5 or 6 flower. That seems to be when the plant started becoming deficient for me

I grew my last plant in coco a couple weeks back and have made the transition to soil for now. I grew three autoflowers recently in FFOF with a capful of Osmocote +. I didn’t give anything else the entire grow. Just non-ph’ed RO water and a good environment.

As far as water you could mix it 50-50 and end up with about a 220 ppm with the added bonus of the micros in the tap or well water.
Agreed and by the way, someone mentioned getting your water tested.... I think Home Depot will test your water for free. It takes a couple days but it could be an option. They have the water testing kits by the customer service desk at my local one.

This is just me wondering which is how I learn by thinking out loud. Do you think, in hindsight, that perhaps your auto flower plants might have benefited from some nutrients the last four or five weeks? At least some sort of supplement for flowering? I know a lot of people don't use the FFOF with autos because they say it can be too "hot" for the seedlings, so you know it has a good amount of nutrients in it. But does it have enough to carry the plants (to their max capacity) till the end of flowering?

I started with synthetic nutes in coco so pH is critical in that regard. Now I am growing organic ferts in coco, pH is still critical, just in the soil range(6.3 to 6.6), not the hydro normally associated with coco. I am so retentive if I were growing no-till I would still want to know pH going in!

No Beez there are not enough nutrients in there. That’s why I, as per Doc Buds earlier grows, used a capful of osmocote +. Read up on it and you’ll understand why I didn’t need to add nutes. It’s readily available at your home center. The downside is OC+ is synthetic, it it couldn’t be simpler. Could they have been grown better? Sure! I’m certain most of the people reading this could have done better. The smallest plant was 5zips wet. That ain’t bad for not ph’ing the water, no nutes to mix, etc. just some LST, a 600w HPS and a decent (sometimes great) environment.
I’m no master grower, that’s for sure, but organic are very forgiving. The real work is the research you’ll need to do to understand what’s happening in your soil. Thankfully people like Clackamas Coot and Doc Bud, to name a few, have done the heavy work for us. I was set on a path by Amy Gardner back in August. I read myself silly here on the forums. Dropping all the way back several years and following Docs work.

What's up with your Chemdog?
Hold on let me grab a pic of her.
