Pennywise Does SOG Pheno Hunts Fall 2018

Yea it's not my strong suit either, but the soil is missing something no doubt. The 6.5 ph should be spot on for magnesium uptake. Try tap water and see if they like it.

That's interesting. I wonder what micronutrient is missing that would cause the tap water to work better?
I saw the opposite. Started using tap water when I switched to coco and after moving here and having an RO filter they absolutely love it.
It's likely the quality of the tap water also.

I agree on the quality of the tap being the main factor. We have an abundance of lime in our water source which is a source for calcium. Stripping that out I have to add too much cal mag and it throws the EC way out of line. There are probably a lot of other trace elements that get stripped as well. I do salt water tanks and my RO strips everything down to single digits which works great in aquariums where the salt mixes are designed to start from zero and they contain everything.

Happy New Year, Penny........and everyone! May 2019 be your best year yet.

I watched my PH very carefully since starting back up late fall and I am seeing an improvement in my garden. When I dipped into DWC this got hammered home. DWC lets you know what's up very quickly if something isn't right. Soil I haven't a clue about but I would think it applies.

I might get flamed for this but as an AN loyalist but I am don't totally subscribe to the PH correction factor when mixed less than the strength that they recommend. I know "but they are chelated"..... I didn't alter the PH last year when I fed them and this year I did. I think that it worked in my favor.

Naw no flaming here...

I think that was the most disappointing part of the grow store job mix-up and why i've been applying at these places with a software degree. Nutrient reps give the store workers samples of everything. One of the seasoned employees was telling me he constantly gets to try new stuff. I was more disappointed by that then anything because with the success i've had doing a ton of research and applying it to a custom nutrient regime always has me wondering if the expensive stuff would be better.
We're getting there, just got Canna PK 13/14 for this go rather than the MKP that I planned for...too high P.

...But, If your with a tight budget, the modified Jack's hydroponic is the way to go though IMO.
You could have a great run with those 3 things alone, Jack's, Calcium Nitrate, Epsom Salt. 50lbs of powder for ~$110!
Since using this I don't get deficiencies or lockouts period.
I haven't had to change the 3:winkyface:1 ratio either for coco but this conversation just made me think of something....

That's the thing, maybe go online and see if you can get your areas water samples. Remember cannabis needs some chlorine to be healthy.

I think you both nailed it with the water.
Let me correct myself we have a good filter but I don't believe it's an RO system. My PPM is about 75 after filtration. Maybe there is a little chlorine left? I am also in a weirdly perfect place where after filtration and mixing nutes, no matter what (unless I let it sit overnight with freaking cane sugar and make an anaerobic tea to go ahead and kill my plants ;) it's always ~6.0 perfect for coco. I can add enzymes or silica and seems it only will change if I let it go sour with sugar) I only use the fast sugars because I feed every single day, doesn't sit in the pots to ferment.

Sounds like your water is a gift

I know I make life difficult for myself, but it's not intentional. For whatever reason I love growing a DDA plant at all times. I just think they're beautiful. And when I grow one it always seems to end up in a hempy pot. So nutrient mix #1......1/2 strength nutrients with the PH adjusted to 5.5 I am becoming quite fond of growing an auto here and an auto there soooo...Nutrient mix #2......1/2 strength nutrients with the PH adjusted to 6.5 And finally my ProMix BX photoperiod plants. Full strength nutrients with the PH adjusted to 6.5 The last is the easy one for me. I put a scoop of the Mega Crop into the gallon vinegar jug, fill it with water, shake it up real well and typically the PH will be in the 6.4 to 6.6 range which is close enough for me. BUT, I do check it every time. I think adjusting the PH of the water/nutrients mix is one of the easiest things we can do to help our plants grow to their full potential and help eliminate deficiencies and toxicities.
