Outdoor Growing With BeezLuiz

Hi Everyone :ciao:
I want to give an update on my growing activities so far this spring. My brother found out that I make my own CBD oil (capsules) and now wants them, so I am plowing through the rest of my CBD buds pretty fast.

My plan for this summer's grow was to do one CBD plant and one THC plant outdoors. I purchased seeds from one of our sponsors (The Seed Fair). I chose CBD Harlequin advertised as 18% CBD and 1% THC and also bought Obama Runtz, Apple Tartz, and Acapulco Gold. The Obama Runtz is going to be my THC plant for outside.

I began soaking my seeds on April 11. The Obama Runtz quickly sprouted and got planted into starting mix. Unfortunately, the Harlequin did not germinate so I soaked another. It also did not germinate, so I soaked my last one. After a few days it still did not crack open so I purchased 5 Charlotte's Web which was advertised as 20% CBD and 0.3% THC.

Eventually, the last Harlequin did crack open and I planted it in starting soil mix. It finally sprouted on 4/26, but looked super runty. My Charlotte's Web arrived on 4/29 (quick shipment turnaround time) and I promptly soaked one of the seeds. It germinated and sprouted on 5/4. :yahoo:

Long story, short... I decided to grow both CBD plants indoors since I got such a late start on them, and put just the one Obama Runtz outside. Both CBD plants stayed quite small for the first couple weeks, but have now started getting their grove on. They are now in 5 gallon fiber pots under my NextLight Core. So far I'm just feeding them 3g/gal of Megacrop, but will eventually switch to Emerald Harvest nutrients once they get a little larger.
I topped Charlotte's Web above node 4 today, and topped Harlequin a few days ago.

The Obama Runtz is looking pretty happy outside so far. It's sitting in a 20 gallon fiber pot filled with FFOF. I also added in some extra perlite and some mycorrhizae.
It got topped last week. I decided not to plant anything in my SIPs (sub irrigation planter) because last summer's plant grew too big and was a ton of work. Plus it drank about $100 worth of nutrients. My tomato plants are loving the SIPs this season.

I hope all is well with everyone's gardens and families. :Namaste:
I could use a few of those wheelie carts

It's time for a post-solstice update. My lone outdoor plant - Obama Runtz - is doing fine so far. It has not started to flower yet, but I'm watching it closely. I put it in the shed for all day on Saturday, so that might jump start the flowering process. My granddaughter had her 1 yr birthday party in my backyard - about 45 people showed up. Here's a picture before I moved it into the shed.

I had a minor mishap with my LST technique about a week or so ago. I got a little too aggressive with one of the tie-downs. When the wind picked up, the branch snapped at the restraint.
Not a real big deal, because it basically turned into another round of topping. Today, I made a couple tweeks to the tie-downs. One of the tops was getting taller than the others so it got an extra bend. Here's a couple of pics from today.

After the bend..

The indoor CBD plants are doing well also. They have not grown very tall (about 16" for one and 17" for the other), but they have a nice compact shape that should produce some nice buds. Also because of the party, these plants got moved to my dark shed for one day. I figured they were looking ready for flip, so I officially set my lights to 12/12 once I brought them out of the shed. Here's what they look like today:

:peace:

I thought it added to the party atmosphere, but I guess some parents wouldn't get it...😜
She's a beautiful plant, Beez!
The CBD girls are looking great too!
They have not grown very tall (about 16" for one and 17" for the other)
I have experience with that size!
Big enough to produce lots of buds, but small enough to work with easily..👍

Nice plants Beez, and a lovely yard! :Rasta:

I'm glad the Obama Runtz didn't come with one of those "do not bend fold spindle or mutilate" warnings! Nice job keeping up with the training out there, and I can't see a unicorn pic on this site without thinking of @newty and the way the mods would take down her pics! This one survived for obvious reasons though.

CBD gang is looking great and the Harley canopy is so cool from above!

45 people for a 1st birthday party...all I can think of is I hope the presents were all deposited into a 529 plan for college. :)

We've been in an extended high heat spell, but the plants seem to be doing ok - both the outdoor Obama, and the two indoor CBD plants.
Harlequin was flipped about 16 days ago and has begun to flower. It is doing ok, but its leaves and budlets are pretty tiny. On top of that, it developed an issue with spider mites. I think I caught it early enough, but I'll be keeping a close eye on it. Since the buds were just barely forming, I sprayed it with Neem. A couple of days later, I rinsed it off. Here it is under the lights.

Charlette's Web didn't seem to be infected with the spider mites, but since they are sitting next to each other, it got the Neem treatment as well. This one is growing very dense. I gave it a pretty good thinning a week or so ago, and will probably give it another one soon. Its leaves have variegated colors of green and yellow. Pretty sure it's just a genetics thing, no disease to worry about.
I brought it outside for a couple of pictures in natural light.

And speaking of natural light, my outdoor plant - Obama Runtz - is doing well. It's currently at 32 inches above soil in spite of my topping and bending. I'm pretty happy with the shape, so I probably won't do much more of that.
It's been about 2 weeks since the summer solstice, and so far flowering has not yet commenced, but it feels like it's very close.

The weather forecast is for the heat to ease off a little this week before the is ramps back up again. As long as the plants get plenty to drink, they should be fine.

Looking real good, Beez!

I doubled the watering on the outdoor girls last week- they weren't droopy or anything, but it's there if they need it....

I took some pictures of my outdoor plant yesterday, so I figured it was time for an update.

Obama Runtz
O'Runtz continues to do well with very little intervention on my part. I've been furtigating it every two days, pruning and training as needed. The plant is just now (what I would consider to be) beginning to flower.

3 of the top branches were just a little taller than the canopy and measured about 46 inches high. I decided to bend them down to even out the canopy. By the end of the day, the branches were already heading back up toward the sky.
Morning:
Evening:

I'm pretty happy with the flatter canopy, and now the canopy sits at 44 inches above the soil.

I'm update the indoor plants next time. :Namaste:

She's looking great with the training. Yes mine are also in the preflowering going into stretch stage. It's always exciting to see them transition into flower, although it takes forever it feels like.
Thanks, Gg! I agree, it does seem like it takes forever to get into full flower mode on outdoor plants.
She's beautiful, Beez!👍
Thanks, Carcass!
Beautiful! So you don't wait to see a gaggle of pistils to cue beginning of flower?
Thanks, Stone! Well, the picture doesn't really show very well the structure that I see. The tops are starting to form clusters where the pistil stigmas will be coming in. It's really just a subjective thing - the plant is gonna do what it wants anyway.

I'm always trying to understand them in different ways so I figured I'd ask. Thanks for that! Mmmmm clusters!
