When I was a young kid, my brothers and I helped my grandparents plant their orchard. I never showed any interest in gardening growing up, I just knew my grandparents had huge gardens and an orchard with apples, peaches, cherries, and who knows what else. About a year ago when I visited, and asked questions about the gardens. My grandma took notice, and got me this for Christmas this year. They have grown organically for years, and I'm just now realizing the difference in quality and size of the produce I've eaten and received from them over the years.

Thanks grandma:love:

That is beautiful, nivek. I used to have twelve or thirteen red roses that lined part of my driveway but, the aphids love them more, and I decided to give up on the chemical bathes needed to control them and planted aborvities instead... poor spelling. They were a hedge rose and when they all popped, it was something. Anyway, I had a few other roses, and I'm down to one it's a William Baffin,, see them a lot on Martha's Vineyard, it's a climber. Nice pic, happy to see you involved!

I grew up reading this magazine. :laughtwo: My mother was a charter subscriber. There is so much organic gardening in my family background I sometimes wonder how I ended up a city girl.

I canceled that magazine last year and some other newspaper thingy. They were my late father in laws.

I may need to check there site out.

I'm going for a large pumpkin too Pete.

Thank you, Ranger. I'm not a huge fan of the rugosa, they are like the Baffin in flower and you tend to see them on the beach as erosion control around here.. but, more than roses, my time is now devoted to my kids, family, gardens.. those roses are nice in other people's yards ;) when did you go to Ranger school btw? I was not, not in that branch, but did get my led sled. Thanks for the info, respect that.

Hey ranger any tips on feeding roses that have been in the ground a year. Roughly 10 varieties?

My mother had this written down.

1c bone meal
1c cotton meal
1c greensand
1/2c fish or blood meal
1/2 cup epsom
1/4 c kelp
2 tbsp dolomite lime

Not sure when just says spring.

Dutty, we should have a little pumpkin co grow :) lol. I went all in last fall by stopping at a local farm and receiving four huge hefty bags of horse shit. Picked it up on my way in to work, seriously I'm a meathead sometimes. When I went to my jeep that day to leave I started to smell the aroma as I got close. But, when I opened the door and tried to get inside I was pushed back by this stench that I can't explain. I still smell it in my nose. :rolleyes3 But, that shit (literally) has been under two feet of super soil, lol. And all winter we've had nothing but snow on top. Funny thing, if you look in my garden right now the only area not covered by snow, is that pumpkin breeding area with horse shit under it...... gonna grow a monster pumpkin this year, DP.

My son tried Ranger School a few years back. Poor kid - Georgia in the peak of summer and his body wouldn't stop sweating. He lasted three days before he ended up in the ER. Such a disappointment for him. The boy's used to achieving his goals. As consolation he stuck around and earned his jumping wings. Had to make the trip matter.

Green thumb is a green thumb. If you know plants like you do, it's just like learning what each strain likes/doesn't. Just about being comfortable around plants.... strain don't matter to you. Less is more, smooth is fast, wax on wax off
