One of these days I want to be a professional horticulturist. But then I use cal/mag. jk but true.... I don't think cal/mag has much to do with PH tho. But if you are having ph that high you might have a problem. And that's exactly what lime is for. What kind of soil and fertilizer are you using there Dutchess? But I've never had a ph problem with soils,' I use that Black Gold Organic mix, Black GoldPremium Potting Mixes - Black Gold. Alot of store bought soils are already buffered with lime or limestone. As are most fertilizers. That sure doesn't mean that you couldn't have a problem with your soil. Myself, I haven't even used my ph pen since my last hydro. We do have water that is to low on the PPM, from 10-40 and even with bone meal, I have to use Cal/mag or problems arise. Keepem Green

for lime and buffering PH "I" would use straight up Calcium Carbonate, it's cheap enough.

These 2 below I use interchangeably .. I don't measure PH or ever worry about it cept for my water so I use RO water - it's always 6.5

My plants will need Ca and so I water in a few times in VEG and a few times in flower a TBS or 2 with a few gallons of water. I alternate the Ca and CaSo4H2O (gypsum) ... the reason I do this for my grow is because my plants will use up the Ca that I have in my soil faster than the grow cycle.

Also another good one is Calcium Sulfate Dihydrate AKA: Gypsum - this will not change the PH.

I do not use Dolomite Lime in my containers and here's why:

It is calcium magnesium carbonate, CaMg(CO3)2. It has about 50% calcium carbonate and 40% magnesium carbonate, giving approximately 22% calcium and at least 11% magnesium. CaCo3 is 36-39% calcium... it doesn't get better than that.

It's the Magnesium in the Dolomite Lime that's not good in CONTAINER gardening.. outdoors it's OK (not optimal) and is considered organic but plants don't need a lot of magnesium... so it's better to use AG lime or the products I've listed specially for buffering soil PH.

The problem with dolomite lime? It has a calcium to magnesium ratio of 2:1 when the proper ratio is 10:1 at best. Mg deficiency is unlikely with plants in soil.

Chlorophyll is C55 H72 O5 N4 Mg <--- that last one is the Mg only ONE molecule ... plants don't need a lot of it and too much gets toxic. In CONTAINER growing this can get out of hand quick with Dolomite Lime. This toxicity looks very very similar to what the pics of the plant in question are looking like!

Dead spots (necrosis) on leaves in a vein pattern.. the plant is dying.

My solution would be to transplant into new soil water RO water and LITFA.

Thanks peoples.. Hey Nivek,,, btw strange ID,, but that last Jack I grew was some of the strongest smelling pots I've grown in awhile. The scent was straight diesel.... Least that's what this fried piece of crap I got called a nose said. And if I can smell a plant,, it has to be strong. It's funny, I can smell some things but not others. The hard part is identifying what I smell. Mine wasn't airy, but wasn't a monster yielder. But I'm going to try another. Might be a stash plant for me. I won't know for afew more days till the stuff had a minute to ferment abit.
BRRRR still cold as hell. I need to do alittle digging on effects of cold on plants requirements. Besides growing sluggishly. And besides me having to run the veg tent 24/7. That keeps the bottom of the pots at 56 degrees and 60 on top. But I imagine they'll enjoy the food. I have a feeling I'm going to have to much going on soon and these are going to get pruned back sometime for acouple mother plants. Just not 100% sure which. That's alotta reading right there in one paragraph.. I could add in there,, that that course ground bone meal is a nice little amendment. I never had to do much with mag cept I used epsom salts once... Probably from a misdiagnosis on my part,,, but didn't hurt anything,,, nor help... But that's another long gone grow. I've never had to use it either indoors,,, but alot of these hot mixes people make could use it I'd imagine. Alot of really hot crap out there that wood mess a ph up if it wasn't 'cooled' off and aged abit.
We got hammered with some pretty snow. I think 7" the other night... Good packing snow. Hope the kids are enjoying this..

Yes NCW all WOOD I am. I did 13 days at the branch at age 20 and that was enough for me. That tour was High School reunion for me with 4-6 people from the neighborhood there. Hey Mike, Hey you fucking punk" Oh my God he flipped. He flarred up and said who the fuck are YOU and as he got closer he seen it was me and turned around and went in the back door of the house. I went through the house and met him and I said..."what no love Mike"he said.."you cant call me that my brother. He was as red as red can get. I told him I dont play that shit. He said it dont matter. You cant say that. This guy mike is built like Evander Hollyfield, all muscle and no neck! Except a White Boy. Ive got a Mexican friend with white boy Tattoos and he said in the Pen Im lucky. Hes either a Soreno or Norteno or Wetback with no choice, he MUST claim one. He said a Wood dont have to click up but a Mexican does. NCW you know all this. My ex sister inlaw just got out the pen for like the 5th time, why she hasent third striked I dont know but next time shes getting 25 to life for nothing Im guessing. Shes cleaned her self up and completely went back in the toilet at least 4 times. This next time is for 25yrs. Meth can fuck you up NCW!

Ammending my Fox Farms. FF goes through the plant very fast and maybe all I need just do it CORRECTLY! Dechlorinate my water. I read to use Dolomite then I read where its not good for planters. Are my 3gal pots considered planters??? Planters must mean a big ole planter box??? I dont fucking know. And I hate to mess stuff up. The tents S.Diesel dident show a deficiency untill the last week and 2-3 weeks after last feeding.

Oh Bro I was thinking about this yesterday, Obama started 8 yrs ago. Dosent seem very long ago. 8 more years makes me over 60 yrs old. I probably got less than 8 yrs left. I hear ya about Doctors Jaga. I've dealt with chronic pain since 86's when I ran my bike off the River Road in Nor Cali, and broke my fool neck. A tear in my beer over a X and afew too many beers at that.. Plus I was a garbage can drug user. And I was whisky bent and hell bound that day. I ran off the road to avoid a accident. But I've had bad back pain ever since. Nothing dulls it much anymore.. Something you just have to deal with. But I'm happy to hear you and Miss S are doing good. Yea the big pharma companies are milking alot of peoples with products they don't even need. Really thats more the Doc's fault. I swear,, you can tell a doctor you have a head ache,, and you'll be walking out on some damn RX... Hopefully things go good for you and yours... Keepem Green
