OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 Year Old Seeds & Current RDWC Harvest

7-9-17 update.

Not a lot to report, the old beans still look like old beans in a paper towel, added a sprinkle of water took their picture and put them back in the dark. The temp in their safe space is between 75-80 degrees, thinking I will give them another day in the paper and them pop them into rapid rooters which will be their final resting place...or new home whichever they choose!

The clones are looking fine, the droopy leaves are slowly perking up and I did add a little water to the tub as I noticed it dropped a little...good sign!

I am trying out a different camera, so I took some underage bud porn for your consideration...it seems to take nice pictures but I need to dial in the white balance as these look a little washed out.

I did notice that the gals in the RDWC are drinking healthy, I did a 25 gallon rez change on 7-4 and I don't think they would have made it until the next change, my pump would have been sucking air so I added a fresh 5 gal batch. I can also tell this because a couple weeks ago the room maintained a pretty steady 40-45% RH with a humidifier running 24/7 with my exhaust fan running about 1/2 speed, I pulled the humidifier out a week and a half ago and my RH has been 45-55% with my exhaust running wide open.

Its always something! :thanks:

I hope I do, but I also rely on the many great members here to help point the way....I always had a fair green-thumb with my early MJ grows and the food that I grew in the garden, this is a bit out of my normal realm, but thanks to the internet, its like going to school all over again!

If they can do it with 32,000-year old seeds, you'll be able to do it with your 40-year old seeds, I'm sure of it. You just need to be patient and try different methods. Sooner or later, one of those genetic gems from the past will come back to life!

That is exactly my thoughts, I have been doing a lot of reading that other members have recommended, my plan is to (I hate to say it) practice with the Maui Wowi strain because there are 70+ beans, the other two around 40 beans...When I get results with one, use the knowledge/method to pop the others.

This journey is not going to be 100% roses, there will be a few set-backs/failures as will probably be the case with the two I am working now.

I thank you and all of the others following along...in a world of instant gratification, patients is sometimes lost!:thankyou:

I have been on this site for a while now and absolutely love watching all these new and seasoned growers do their thing and in the meantime reap the benefits of all the knowledge, misfortunes and Miracles of other people's hard work and passion. Your situation "in my personal opinion" is truly amazing to me that you have this kind of history in your grasp. I am a first time grower and a long time smoker but finally figured it's my time to produce. The possibilities of one of these making it through would absolutely astound me! I'm not young yet I'm not old either but I do remember the days of only having "A" strain or two to pick from and you have the originals. Kudos to you for holding on to them regardless if they sprout or not.

I will get sprouts!! I have to keep thinking that...positive=positive, negative=negative! I have some great memories and methods I used outdoors, lots of creative engineering, trials & failures that helped me with planning this grow. Indoors is a completely different animal, but knowing and watching your plants without overreacting is the key as far as I am concerned.

I hope I don't disappoint, it may take a few tries, but I will pop some of these old beans!:thumb:

Have you thought about mechanical scarification of the seed coat? Like using a file or sandpaper?

I did that with the two in paper towels now, I used a razor blade and kind of scuffed the sides...thinking of using some 150 or 220 grit sandpaperand making the tube to shake them in on the next attempt with the GA3

I've seen it - maybe in the Cervantes grow bible? - suggested to use a matchbox and some of that fine sandpaper you suggest.
